Picking up a new lense today

Ouch!!!

Damnit, having just bought a DSLR and seeing what some of the lenses are worth, I feel your pain!

Well I have car back togather enough to drive it. Did approx 30k's in it today

The exterior is complete except for the roof rails. Ran out of time to finish painting them.

I had a small engine oil leak which turned into a big one after driving it. I think I have found the problem. This afternoon I had to strip the top of the motor and remove the inlet cam cover. It looks like the half moon rubber at the back was leaking. Reassembled it with some sealant. Just now drove the car around the block a few time and it seems OK. Will check it out again in the morning.

Plan is still to go onto the QLD skyline cruise tomorrow.

Have to go now, need to finish putting the backseat in for the kids.

*picks jaw up from the desk*

damn that looks wicked, you have given me a new way to look at the r34 gtr conversion, never really fancied it, but yours looks seamless and sleek.

btw, what suspension you got on sits really good. and would the side skirts i got off you sit lower then your current ones ?

good stuff buddy!

have you decided on wheels yet?

Probably Gold Rays GT-c's. That should make it stand out just a bit more

Currently running 25mm spacers on the fronts to fill the guards, so they are 18x9 +5

If I go the rays I can order the right offsets and play with disk type to get the same dish front and rear and that way I do not have to run spacers on the front. Just need to find the $4K minus the gtr rims sale price and wait 8 weeks for them

Ended up witth Sydneykid bilsteins with extra grooves, F & R king springs. The skirts make the car look alot lower than it is. Under the sill on the body they are 170-175mm. Rear wheel arch is 330-340mm.Can not go any lower on the rear, shock platform hits the tyres. The fronts cannot go any lower as the platform hits the suspension arm. The front diffuser is approx 80-90mm of the ground.

As RBstagea mentioned, it does look better in the flesh. The coulor is very hard to photograph for a novoice like me. Today JustDave photography took some pic's, so will see what they look like.

Part of the cruise today they ripped up approx 2-3ks of road. It was wet gravel. Not happy after spemding so much time getting it clean. Tried to clean it at the servo before these pic's were taken.

Still have the hood lining and boot trims to go in and the recaro's to put in. Then some time the new turbo and other bits still to go.

Beautiful, Darrin! Well done, and congratulations! It looks sensational, and like Brian and Ray said, the colour looks very much at home on the car.

I also think the R34 wheels suit it perfectly.

THe ride hight looks great too, it looks right. Much better than some other r34 front end conversions i've seen.

:D

Thanks for all the comments guys

I actually measured the clearance height on the front diffuser. 75-80mm :)

The first short drive I did on Saturday in it, only 3 k's from home, an undercover VE silver wagon checked me out for a fair while.

Luckly they did not pull me over. They probably thought, that is a nice Volvo!

Wow well done mate, great to see it come to gether over such a long period of time. Excellent! love the colour good choice there. Give it a little spin down to vic and we'll cruise haha

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
