Care to elaborate on that thought?

not interested in wasting my time.

better if we wait for engo to give us feedback on how different the car is from a owners point of view who has had both ecu's. that will be best.

You wasted your time typing the post in the first place, so why not explain why Microtech's are not suited to RB engines?

And Engo's feedback will not tell you anything because he probably never got it tuned by someone who knows microtech and will probably take it to someone who does know how to tune PowerFC.

I'd direct you to a couple of R33's running Microtech and an RB25 Silvia that does pretty well....and the Silvia runs an LT10S, not a 12. Still does it's job very well. It all comes down to the tuner. But you probably don't want to waste your time learning something new anyway.

I have owned a car for years with a microtech, i have tuned many of them on SR's CA's RB's FJ's Toyota's etc etc. Getting them right is simple, especially with WOT tables which makes tuning for power very easy.

Its all the other stuff like every day drivablity that they lack. They also seem to go out of tune every 3 - 6 months from what I have seen. They dribble like no tomorrow and don't get me started on the microtech stumble they all seem to suffer with.

Go to anyones place who owns a microtech car and look in the garage. You will see big black patches of fuel spots on the ground, its funny I randomly see these patch's everywhere, even in public car parks.

For a car thats gets driven on the drag strip or drifting they are a good match. but for a RB powered daily driven street car they are not suitable.

They don't stumble unless there is another part of the system that has a hiccup and they don't lose their tune every 3-6 months. Talk to Matt Spry, Peter from Pro-Torque, BPS etc. If you take your car to a decent tuner who knows the system well, then you shoulnd't have any problems. They are simple, yes, but if you don't know them well, they are even simpler - and the results will speak for themselves. That runs true for any EFI management system. Of all the RB's running Microtech's that I know of, none of them share the symptoms you speak of.

There was a couple of instances where the Microtech lost some data a while back in their earlier days but it's not every unit that does it. You could hang shit on Haltech for their crappy MAP sensor too but just because a couple of people have issues doesn't mean the product is a bad one.

I prefer not to use Microtech on RB's but when a customer brings me his/her car with Microtech in hand, I don't judge them or their product, I choose to make it work. Engo has started out with a Microtech, and probably due to the bad words from forum users, he has ditched it when all he really needs is to have a decent tuner.

PowerFC have the well known miss also but I know some tuners who can prevent that from happening. Then on the other side, sometimes it's the owners hardware at fault too.

Ye i know hehe - i should have quoted the first post where he says WOT and outright power is all that he's worried about, and in the same line he talks about Wolf equipped cars throwing pistsons... which again is more rubbish and dribble :)

i actually think you are an outright top bloke.... good on ya ash :) ...

imo ya cant be to cautious.. and this site is for research and ect... and everyone helps out fine which is awsome.... but ash... nahhh.. just has to add his pointless 2 cents :D

One has to agree with this statement. Check his posts.....the guy spends most of his time hangin shit on everyone, tryin to find faults and the worst part is, hes a Mod. lead by example hey.....fear the admin power....what a joke :woot:

How bout the admins show some damn respect. Its the people that keep this forum alive not the forum moderater nazis.

Pisses me off when I read through the forum and see this shit goin on. All engo wanted was some help, not to be belittled by some joker who should be the first to try and help, no matter what.

Here's a suggestion and an idea all in one for you mister R31Hemroid, why dont you grow up and try being nice to people for a change!

i loled at this last page

3lit3_32, have you ever gotten a Microtech to co-operate with a GT-R or other 4wd Skyline?

Mine was tuned by a big name tuner in Sydney, yet like another guy I knew with a EL straight 6 running a LT-8 vs my LT10S and tuned locally, they both don't want to cold start first go, they both need plugs changed all the time, and generally run overly rich and spit out fuel vapour as well as lots of smoke. Not to mention occasionally wanting to not rev properly when idling for a while.

Thats 2 different cars with the only similarity being the brand of ECU with a local tuner and a big name city tuner doing the tunes on both, one being a N/A and the other a turbo. Seems to be more than a coincidence to me, hence I pin the blame on the ECU - I don't really want to pay say $600 to get the tune fixed up then to find in 6 months or earlier that it's returned to its original state.

I figure if one of the better known names in Sydney tuning can't get the bloody thing to behave, who can!

I say this because I'm also looking at the PowerFC option, though I'm leaning more towards getting a Z32, using the RB20 ECU I have and getting a Nistune board put on it.

Why aren't you "going to even bother" Guilt-Toy? I was merely sharing my own experiences of Microtech ECU's, and the fact of that matter is that I've yet to see a car in person which has one that does not have cold start and overfueling issues, and pointing out that the same issues were present on two different motors and tuned by both the top and bottom end of tuners. I can't see anything I've said that's particularly stupid or irrelevant there.

The question was also directed towards 3lit3_32 since he is valiantly defending an ECU which is known to be very unpopular around here, I was interested in seeing more of what he had to say in their defence.
