Yeah so anyway after all the fighting I reckon its a pretty sweet looking car! Granted, for 100k it'd take some consideration seeing as there are plenty of nice cars out there for that price.

But, is it true it's going to be available only in automatic?

If so, that would suck big time. No high rpm launches!

They make hi-stalls for that!

I think this would make a VERY interesting starting point for a nice blown LS1 car that could actually get the power to the ground.

Nice to see them doing something different too, and not just thinking in that same little box.

Looks nice....

Will there ever be a time where we can look at a car and it's set out and say,... yeah... sweet mate...

Not ...

My C&%k is bigger than that.....

It get's tiresome guy's..... face it.... YOUR car will not alway's beat everyting else on the road...

And mr Panda..... I own a commodore and a Skyline.... i resent being called a wanker because i own one.....

I find that it's idiot's that drive car's.... not models of car's that drive idiot's

Lozza

enrico, the 6sec plus 0-100 quoted in the original link was on GRAVEL!!!!

that car is going to be awesome. as said, throw on a blower and a hi stall and it'll be neck and neck with GTRs.

What sucks is the smugness that the drivers of these will have on their faces everytime they hose us jap ricey GTSt RWDers off the line 0-100!!!!

looks good, 6.6 secs, 0-100, why the f*ck quote it on gravel??? That car ain't no rally basher, so we could say a flat 6, 0 - 100 on the blacktop? Still shit slow for a $100K car. A $30K R34 GT-T will get you a flat six.

But yes, as much as i hate holden for the their shit quality, blatant copying, rebadging, ripping-off. Just going out, making and committing to a 4WD on a "performance" car deserves a bit of a look.

Still a $30K R34 GT-T give u the same speed at least, and most probably better handling due to weight. $35K RX-7, 1999 onwards. Even a lightly worked R33 GTS-t will get u a flat 6 sec, 0 - 100. Go even further and pick a SR20DET car, give ya a 6 sec car.

5.7 Litres V8, i think they are way down on the power sides of things if you ask me. Give BMW 5.7 Litres and a V8, and u'd be WELL in ur 300kw's.

Did someone mention comparison to the RS6?? R u nuts!!! An Audi RS6 would rape and pillage this monaro!!

Some people are really short sighted, but what can you expect from a Skyline forum.

Why buy a Skyline, I can buy a 13BT rotor for $5K and it'll shit all over a R33 GTS25T. :D

News flash, not everyone buys their vehicle for flat out performance.

If that was the case, do you think Holden would be producing V6 Commodores? Would there still be Magnas, Camrys and Avalons? I think not.

And lets not start comparing new and second hand cars, please. Last I heard R34 GTRs were selling for $150K odd new. GTST/GTT were not $30K new.

Anyhow, moving right along,

I say good on Holden for trying something new. It can only be a good. Perhaps in a few years they'll integrate a turbo engine in the pipeline with an all wheel drive platform. This is only the start of things for them.

A 1970 torana with a 13BT is not a comparison. We are comparing a factory cars against another factory car, or comparing the closest thing we can. So a 2002 R34 GT-T (only 1 yr old), prob about $40k?

I think we all know that not everyone buys their vehicle for flat out performance, but last time i checked, HSV was the performance division of Holden, so the a-fore-mentioned car is a performance vehicle. Yes, it is good to see local car makers trying something new. This Monaro 4WD, the kick ass BA XR6t, Astra Turbo, Crewman, AWD Magna's, etc. But $100k for a mid 6 sec, near 2 tonne, 2 door coupe, with only 270kw's from a rather large engine? I still think Holden can do better with what they've got.

cheers.

I think you're jumping the gun. It will take time for Holden to make the most of it. They are only a (relatively) small company with a small development team, and 270kw is stated as the maximum power they can reliably put through the drivetrain at the current time.

Given time, they'll be able to identify weak points and work on them, and develop stronger parts (which still stick in a reasonable budget for the build) and be able to increase power accordingly.

The reality of it all is, with no competition with that market segment, why do Holden HAVE to do any better? They own that market atm :D

It weighs 1920kg!!!

NO thought was put into any weight saving whatsoever. If they make a stronger driveline for the Monaro `fo by `fo, it`ll crack 2 tonnes! Whaaaaaaaat a looooooad of ruuuuuuuubish!

Other notable GT cars that crack 2 tonnes:

The Bentley Continental R $100,000,000;)

and ahhhh... ?

out of all the people who said that an r34 gtr is better value etc.. im guessing none have you have driven both.

also, comparing a 2002 gtr to a 2003 local car isnt the same. With the GTR you wont get warranty, you wont get insurance (unless your over 30).

personally i would chose a r34 gtr over any monaro... but at the same time, im driving a monaro around right now... am i a wanker?
