That's the thing. Standing on the road, the exhaust sounds really, REALLY metallicy, and doesn't sound like the engine is too happy - but once u jump in the drivers seat, and rev it out to the redline..... u'll understand why ppl talk about the engine note of the M3 :)

cheers.

Good to see some of the stupid comments stayed in the early parts of the thread. No need to bring SAU down to the level of some of the less intelligent forums around. If we were all enthusiasts of the same car it would be fairly boring. I mean maybe a seemingly large amount of commodore drivers are reckless because of how bloody cheap they are to buy and fix (the older ones anyway).

The monaro 4wd doesnt look right to me. The flared guards and odd looking front bar just dont do it for me. I think maybe its because the standard Monaro is such a good looking car, there isnt much you can do to improve it, HSV hasnt been able to in my opinion. Its always good to see a new car with the very powerful 4wd combo. Aussie cars have come along way in the last 10 years. XR6T, new 285kw club sport, gts300, a 290kw falcon! 10 years ago ford didnt even have a V8. Still give me a GTR any day.

Onto one of the ultimate typre v8 2 doors the SL55. Working for Mercedes i have driven a fair few of them now and every time i do i still smile and crap myself all at the same time. An absolutely unbelievable car. Any car that can get to 100 in 4.7 with the roof down and claim to be the fastest production car in the world to get to 300ks can park itself proudly next to the skyline. Then again for $400,000 (by the time its on the road) would you want any less. I find it very hard to justify spending that sort of money on a car. Not saying i wouldnt though if i was filthy rich.. :)

Hey I just thought of something that HSV should do next.......AWD turbo Astra. Dont tell me you wouldnt like to see one of them on the rally scene. with the price bracket it would fall into it could acctually be a nice rival to the rex. now if only I worked for holden they could pay me money to come up with this stuff (even though im sure someone has already said it :b )

EDIT: As per Lozza's suggestion copyright 2003 =P give me money! and a free sample car :)

Warpspeed, i posted this before. The AWD system is based on ATTESSA but takes some comprimises into account (as the car's not as hardcore as the GT-R)

Based on ATESSA? Not even remotely. Holdens system is lift straight from the GM parts bin with electronics, at least, being from a Hummer H2.

It comprises of two open diffs, front and rear, with a transfer case adjacent to the gear box. Front rear split is mechanically fixed at 38% front and 62% rear. They direct torque between the wheels by braking the wheel that has too much torque. Its an ugly system but it does make it easy to change the setup between cars by reprogramming the electronics controling braking. Which is pretty much what they did when they transfered the system from the Adventra to the Monaro.

Everyone seems to have forgotten these cars are only coming in 4 speed autos for now. Performance cars they ain't.

Car companies are run by the bean counters these days, not by young engineers with a vision. Also the economic situation is looking very bleak indeed, especially in the car industry.

I believe they will come up with a 4WD system that will generate public interest and hopefully a greater market share. But they will try to keep costs to an absolute minimum. That is why I expect a basic solution, not a high tech solution.

And I will also like to bet it is marketed as a safety feature for the family man that does not want to drive a two ton SUV truck.

The twenty year old hoons will all lust after a 300Kw 4WD Monaro, but the reality is that the people buying them will be wealthy middle aged yuppies that only want to pose in them.

i know a few holden guys so i will ask them what their 4wd is based on.

instead of paying 95k for a 4wd monaro, just buy a 60k adventera... only difference when driving is it feels 6" higher, bit more body roll and seats are softer. Other than that the interior is almost identical, and feels just as slow.

    • True, might get it looked at. Found out you can in fact flatten the 12v battery relatively easily too the other day (kids lefts the hazards on) so meaning to get that checked in the new year. What's odd is it'll blow cold from both vents if you have the ac down as low as poss (18), but anything else the passenger one blows warmish. Also has been summer since I got it obvs but noticed it didn't seem to want to blow hot last night when we had a cold snap.
    • You ask for things. You specifically state you want responsiveness. A link was provided for a far superior, more responsive option. Find a MX5 workshop that will install it for you. Maybe MX5 Mania will throw on the Fab9 kit. It seems they want to charge almost 14K installed for their kit, so if they charge you $6K to install the FAB9 kit then you'll be ahead? Though really, the 2.5 with a 2860 running low boost will more or less feel as good as anything else. It's a lot of displacement and a small turbo. Think of a more modern RB26 with one stock turbo :p TBH, truth be told I've been driving my own car, and use about 50% throttle at most for 99.9% of the time. Mr Bogan is likely similar so this is all going to be semantics for the use case he actually has. (He'll be happy with anything relative to now) However, the EFR is hands down far superior in this use case. You really, really, really, really do notice it over the Garrett or equivalent.
    • You are correct, the earlier the torque, the earlier things snap
    • Gents, it will be getting the MX5 Mania kit and the 2.5 will be staying where it is My query was about the 0.64 or the 0.86, whilst the 0.64 might spool a bit faster, would the 0.86 be better IRT EGT and mechanical sympathy, with only a small difference in spool And as I assume I won't need alot of boost to get to 200kw, probably around 10 psi, and with max rpm at 6500, would high EGT even really be a issue with a 0.64 I'm heading into MX5 Mania at the end of Jan to discuss the install, so any info is welcome prior to that Basically have a chat and book a time so they can throw on the turbo kit, and fit a oil cooler with a thermostat, drive in drive out of course  In other news: just finished cleaning the car inside and out, it's now all ready to get covered in bugs and dirt driving to Goulburn tomorrow to lunch,  and go for a stroll along woolondilly River with the daughter and her boy, and of course, visit my grandcats and my new grandpuppy
    • Sounds like it has an actual problem with mode select doors, or something.
