hey all, im a little stumped as to what type of amp i should use to run 2 x 12" type s that i just got.

i really dont know jack about car audio so i need some advice.

they are 200rms, 4ohm, single voice coil model.

am i going to either have to (1) run 2 monoblock amps bridged or (2) run a 2 channel amp

or do i have any other options.

im not exactly rolling in the funds much these days so a cheaper option would be better.

You only need one monoblock or a bridgeable 2-channel amp that is 2 ohm stable. You would run your 2 subs in parallel, therefor the amp will see a 2ohm load.

From here it depends on your budget. But you would want at least 500wrms to be safe (it's better to over power then under power)

Alpine monoblock (MRP-M500) - $499 and puts out 500wrms @ 2 ohm

A cheaper option would be a Jaycar responce amp $349 and will provide 380wrms per sub (these amps are meant to be great value for money)

hope this helps

cheers for that. i was never aware that if i connect the 2 subs together then i could use a 2 ohm load on the amp.

also had another member send me though a link on how to wire it that was very usefull for me aswell.

i think i might have a look at the jaycar, ive heard some good remarks about it and the price is definetly good.

jaycar prices are definetly good for the fact that the gear is pretty cheap crap (to be honest) i would recomend more likely to go something like some clarion or pionner speakers or sumthing if u want sumthing cheap and allright quality, but if u want something decent u can pick up a nice set of boston speakers (BOSTON being speaker speciallist) for about $250 for a set of splits and they will be better quality (sound and build) then the jaycar equipment. but thats just my 2 cents.

He's after an amp, not speakers.

PDX amps are great, especially when you're tight on space. They are expensive though, so he may want to consider something else a bit lower in the price range. Plus it might be just me but i would consider PDX amps to be a bit over the top for a type s sub

    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
    • Stock O2 sensors are narrowband. They're useless once you're away from stoich. IE, useless for what you're trying to do. 10:1 will read the same as 14:1 from the stock O2 sensors. That is, they'll read rich. The same level of rich.
    • I agree once misfires happen it's basically worthless, but the hope is you can see what's happening in the run up to that.
    • You should totally get a Brumby, and then come pick up the Subaru Liberty GTB I have here. EJ25 Turbo, 6 speed manual from the sti (just no dccd), and the good rear diff. Drop all that into a Brumby and go have fun!
