For what it's worth I have Audi Q7 TDI, 176 kw/550nm towing GTR 34 / trailer all up 2100kg does it easy

Also have VW Touareg V10 TDI 230kw/750nm towing horse trailer all up 3200kg does it unstressed. Pardon the pun, horses for courses. Have driven new Jeep CRD, motor ok but not up to Audi/Porsche/VW TDI in terms of smoothness, low noise and economy.

For those of us where price matters..... The new Jeep is great value and fantastic build quality at $50K odd (compared to the older ones).

Agree, as a value proposition, very good, but unproven Italian VM Motori diesel scares me.

Good point.

The yanks have been using the new motor for months now so I'm expecting the Aus delivered ones to have any potential bugs ironed out by now. So far I haven't seen any significant issues.

I'm pretty sure VM Motori engines were also in the older Jeeps.

my dads other brother had a 3.5L v6 Pajero...was rubbish...could barely tow a 16ft fiberglass boat...mind this is going back a few years so I dont know anything about the new ones

Interesting. I had one and found it ok. I wonder if it was a healthy one. They tend to bmelt cats, blocking the exhaust and choking them.

03/04 WG Grand Cheks are ok. 5speed auto update, and the Limited/Overland has the good engine. Many are abused though, so it's easy to find a wart it seems.

Truth be known the Yanks can't even buy one. Us and Europe ate the first to get it. It looks the goods though, even better than the previous highly respected Mercedes unit. I have researched it and again, for the money..... :)

Compare it to a 550 Navara like I did last week. 70 bloody grand for something that doesn't come close build or feature wise.

I looked at the Navara and Toyota's and ran screaming from the dealerships for the same reasons you mentioned.

No, boats to over 4 tonne, though 2.5 to 3 is more within their scope. In a previous life I was a mobile marine mechanic. It towed daily.

Good to know. :)

I changed a distributor on a mercruiser 350chev in a 24ft cruiser...also changed the oil..........................never again!
