Looks like I'm in luck with the ECU, there is only one thing I'm not sure about!

The markings on the ECU read

A56 R12 JA Nissan A56-R12 L18 1Z07 UNISIA JECS CORPORATION JAPAN

Which should be fine assuming the L18 1Z07 is the serial number, i.e. Iain's is L18 1Y03.

The part I'm not sure about is that Iain's is stamped with a little circle and a D7, the one coming back from Japan with my name on it has D8. Could this be a firmware thing? Can anyone get any gossip, maybe it's just the quality control person's number or something?

I've included some piccies, I want to start getting excited that it's right but I'm not 100% sure!

i bet you its firmware, plug it in and see if it works dude. if its 100% from a VQ25DET equipped M35, i rekon its gonna work.....

did they mention what year it was from? mines an 01 and im game enough to try it in my car

It's a December 2001, I would like to know it works before I start making arrangements for the remap with SAS.

I may even try it in mine, is it easy to remove the glovebox to get to the ECU?

I've asked Ken if he can get any indication of what the D# is before he departs Japan.

its pretty easy dude, youll work it out, i think its about 6 screws. no need to remove your ecu, just unplug it and plug in the other one and leave it hanging

Just let it dangle eh? Won't do any damage if I floor it with the new ECU swinging on the wire?

I'm still waiting to confirm with SAS but at this point in time I have paid for the ECU, they were going to reimburse me BUT I've asked if they need the ECU past the initial trial and development stage i.e. my tune. If they don't, like Andy has with the turbo, I will hold the ECU in my possession incase anyone needs one urgently to replace there's, the original cost plus a little extra will be required but I can tell you all that these ECU's are not easy to find!!!!! Even Iain will confirm that we have only sighted one on Yahoo Japan Auction (IM) since we have been looking and I've tried all around australian wrecker's with M35's and those that did have a VQ25DET and ECU would not seperate them.

Anyway, I'll post a message announcing that I will have an ECU on hand incase one of you EManage Ultimate guys fry your ecu :)

I'm hoping to have the ECU in a week or two so I can start arranging everything with SAS.

I'll give the ECU a test run before I take it in just incase anything isn't quiet right.

Is there any way (like via the display screen) to check the revision date etc. of the firmware on the ecu?

I'll looking forward to this remap, should be awesome! Hopefully I can squeeze a bit more out of it than you EManage Ultimate boys :)

im sure youll be able to! no piggy back is as good as a remap/fully programmable ecu.

lets just hope they CAN remap them :)

You'd think because Nissan mapped them to begin with they *should* be remappable :D

I sent SAS the link to your pics the other day, so he can have a squiz at the internals pic.

I'll see how things go when the spare ECU arrives from Brisbane, the ECU's *must* be remappable especially when you have products like the Nismo ECU on the scene, that's probably just a remapped stock M35 ECU.

ok im taking a leap of faith for that nismo ECU. so assuming i win it, ill be selling the emanage if anyones interested. might chuck it in the FS section soon.........

Good Luck! (sincere, not sarcastic :) )

Better get some octane booster unless you want to ping your life away...

detonation can be caused by air that is too hot also as well as lack of fuel. a FMIC will allow me to run more boost which this ECU is already programmed to do!

The boost level is set by the brass insert in the wasegate line, unless you have a boost controller it wont change.

The Nismo ecu would be great as it will speed up gear changes and improve most aspects of the engine but it is tuned to 101 octane. If you cant remap it due to language problems you might need to fit the Emanage to adjust things down, I wouldnt sell it just yet...

ill see how i go for the moment.

boost is ECU controlled mate, there is a solanoid that controls the bypass to the actuator. sometimes its good to retain the factory boost control as it can drop off boost levels in the event of detonation. that brass restrictor slows down how quickly the boost comes on, yes it does affect boost a little. on SR20s if you removed it, you got a psi or 2 more and boost came on a lot faster (compared to factory)
