Should I gut my cat?

U could try hollowing out the cat and inserting a pipe through the cat. Benefits of this are:

1. The original cat is still in place.

2. If u tap the cat it wont sound hollow, since there is still some cat material left in it.

3. U get the performance of a straight through pipe...plus the flames to boot (i love the flames the most, although the performance increase is not much)

nos would give you x10 the power, and the fine is 1/10 as much if you get caught, which makes it a x100 better idea.

i dont know if its different for na's and turbos but when i did i got a very noticeable increase in power and the flames!!! but then i got the shits cause it made the resonance in my exaust 10 times louder so i got a new one. the fine for having a cat that doesnt work is 200 bucks the fine for having no cat at all is 2000 bucks, take ur pick.

Someone once told me in nsw that the fine is 25k....

is that true?

In NSW it is 10,000 if you're caught, details are on the EPA sight, search for catalytic converter.

Of course, how you would get caught is a different matter, presumably you would have time to rectify it before being tested....

It just seems crazy to me, risking a fine that big for marginal gain.

If you run a straight pipe through the centre of your cat no one will know.

But there will be no measurable performance difference, there might be a bit more noise, and there will be more black crap at the back of your car which will discolour the paintwork and bumper.

If your cat has disintegrated and is rattling or blocking the pipe, get it replaced.

My mate had this done to his CA18DET powered car, before this happened i would pull away in top end quite a bit! Now though they are even up top, with no changes to management or anything, either car!
