Re-intalling My System

Ok well I have a pretty decent system in my car but when I got it, cords of all sorts where all over the place! It looked really untidy and so unpleasant.

My mates installed an amp for me and at the same time we decided to clean up the boot. We cleaned up everything and it all looked good. After a month or two my speakers started cutting out and then coming back on. I had no idea what the cause was, later to find out the fuse in the splitter box was dead. I went to the audio shop and bought me a new pair of fuses and replaced the old ones. Everything was fine and running great for a few months.

Now I come to today and the system is doing exactly what it was doing a few months back! The speakers have totally cut out this time and its just my subs pumping. I had a brief look in the boot and my amp still seems to be getting power unlike last time. It has totally gotten onto my nerves now so I thought I would come here and see if anyone can professionally re-install everything from scratch neat and tidy. I want to pull out the whole system and install it as if it was brand new with all the wires neatly and profeesionaly tucked away...Do you guys think this is the best of ideas?

I would take it to a shop to get them to check it out

I am not just saying that because I own a shop.

If you are not sure about installing it all correctly then a shop would be the place to go.

Most if not all will offer a warrenty on their workmanship so if you have any problems down the track they will chek it out for you.

What state do you live in? That way i can recommend someone for you.

Thanks for the reply Simon. I had another look in the boot to see if I could identify the problem, and all I can say is WOW. I think I found the problem. I'll upload a picture tomorow morning but oh man.

Basically I have this box which splits two fuses, one for each amp. Anyway I had a look at that today and its been burnt straight through. The plastic has melted leaving a whole in the box. I couldnt belive it but yes I am very coinfident in that being the problem.

Just remember that for the fuse to blow there has to be something seriously wrong with the wiring, like a short to ground, fuses dont tend to blow for no reason, so replacing it might not solve your problem, youll just end up with a pile of blown fuses. and dont do what alot of people do, and stick a bigger fuse in to stop it from blowing!

Yes my last fuse was 20v if i remember correctly? The guy at the shop said to get the 40v one as it would be alot better, and yes now this has happened lol. I would most defiantly need a new box aswell now right, along with the system to be rewired?

i assume you mean 20Amp fuse not "V", but what i would do is to find the fuse on the amplifier and make that the value of your power line in fuse (in the box), for example my amplifier will draw 25Amps before its internal fuse will blow, so there is no point having a 40Amp fuse in the power feed line cos it will never blow unless there is a short in the wiring before the amplifier. you may want a new box, but some electrical tape is just as good ...so long as it is sealed from foreign objects.

Autobahn will do it... however i wont be taking my car there again...

otherwise strathfield might do it
