No offence but has the VIpec been tested with a new engine configuration - as in mutiple cam control, DBW control, knock sensor retard functions? This is one area where all aftermarket ECU's seem to fall over. I'm yet to see an aftermarket ECU control Cams better than the factory ECU in almost all applications let alone DBW control - f**k me, most even struggle with stepper motor control!

You would think by now that most aftermarket ecu's would be at least able to deliver consistant injector and ignition control -but I've seen issues with all the big name ECU's - including Haltech, Motec and Autronic!!

On a side note I had a look at the Vipec interface - looks rather clumbsy! Was it copied from Motec?

we will be doing a fair few fully variable cam setups soon, Evo IX, SR20VE headed monster so i will let you know how it goes with cam control, so far the only other ecu ive done on similar setups was autronic and greddy v-manage (the later was suprisingly good on an evo 8)

The software is carried over from LINK's previous G3 range of ecu's, its actually quite nice to use, no-where near as cumbersome as motecs. I probably tune on average 5 different types of ecu each week and remmbering hotkeys is a nightmare.

I tune lots of factory systems and aftermarket systems. From what I've seen the Autronic SM4 is the closest thing to factory level managment with an interface that is simple and quick to tune with. You can frig around with motecs to get them somewhere but they are missing silly things like delta ignition control (can be setup using rpm as an axis but its not a delta number from the desired idle speed) and their PI control is shit not to mention so slow to tune.

At a glance the Link looks similar to the autronic but the interface is where it may fall over even if they tune ok.

Does the link use the desired AFR map as an enrichment map like the autronic does and then you just tune the VE? And is there a charge air temp cal?

with the launch control and antilag and whatever else would i need something ontop of the computer to use the features? like a handcontroller or something? and do they have to be set up and is it hard or would it be included in the fitting and tuning price if i chose ot use them?

launch control, flat shifting and anti-lag need switches wired in to the digital inputs on the ECU to function, other than that its all in the software setup.

are there any other functions you would wire a switch to?

You can trigger multiple things off the one switch for example i have launch control and flat shift off the same switch (i used the factory clutch switch rewired) in the software there is a 6 second time delay on the clutch being depressed and launch control activating then the switch also works normally for the flat shifting.

The only other switch i have wired in is for the dual fuel/ignition map switching. if i want to turn anti-lag on i would have to do so via a laptop which isn't a big deal assuming you weren't switching it on and off a lot.

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
