I run a Competition Steel Hatted Os Giken Twin Plate in my R32 GTR TS2CD

Heavier on the pedal than most about a 7 out of 10

Plate rattle is quiet in comparison 3 out of 10

Clutch Grab is a positive and awesome 10 out of 10

pedal feel is excellent and driveable in traffic 6 out of 10

replacement plates (rebuild kits) 5 out of 10 (cost bit over half of new clutch)

Durability of Clutch 10 out of 10 (this clutch has seen, im sure over 1000 launches)

Tell us a bit about yours so others can determine what they would like to buy in the future

My hope is to work out whether to rebuild my clutch or go new

No-One use Twin Plates?

they are only mandatory for GTRs

Pffft why? There's two types of people that use twin plates, those who need them because their making big power (400kw+) and those that don't like their gearbox's :D Well thats what I seem to see over and over again anyway :D

Nismo coppermix competition model (740 PS or something like that)

Very easy to drive, isnt noisy has never slipped. Wouldnt even bother looking at any other clutch... Im too happy with this one!

I have the OS TS2CD twin plate an absolutely love it, easy to drive good in traffic not to heavy that is, good bite and enough play so that you dont feel like you have a brass button in or out oh my god i hated those.

Great for launches for those that know how to do it properly without leaving your driveline on the floor behind you :down: and believe me some drivers are brutal. I will definately keep this or replace unless i chase more power and its out of its limit.

Os Giken make quality parts and i like to know that i have good parts in my car you pay for what you get.

TS2CD, bought it as it was cheaper second hand than anything else i could have got for 30det, awd.

a little bit of slip, enough to drive it reasonably in traffic. yet enough bite to side step it with a few revs on.

pretty noisy tho, like a couple of dinner plates in the tumble drier. if you know what the noise is its not a worry tho.

The pfft why was in regards to your 'twin plates being mandatory for gtr's' comment. I don't understand why people put crazy clutches in cars that don't require them, it's cheaper to smash a clutch than it is a gearbox, the clutch should be able to hold maybe 10% more power than what the car is making otherwise it's just overkill, thats my opinion anyway.

My car makes about 300kw and i'm using a stock clutch with no issues, car is used mostly for weekend outings and track......

Seen the power rating for the 2009 model? Finally its getting closer to what the HKS GTRS guys need :)

This is a bit of a funny thread.

Sure singles do the job, but there's just something about the way twins work in GTR's that makes you think they should come standard.

Launching time after time, hard changes, positive feeling on changes etc - SO good!

I regret selling my nismo twin, have an os giken triple plate currently, as soon as nismo increase the c spec twin to handle 800hp ill be back with one of them.

Cant compare os giken to nismo, sure they both feel good by themselves, if you dont believe me, do a test back to back. Nismo will win.

With that said there's also some quick GTR's on tricked up singles.

End of the day, its personal preference, and out of all the GTR owners i know, only 3 have single's. :)

I'm probably still on the stock single! Are you suggesting that I change to twin? Hearing so much about launching makes me want to do it but after starting at around 4000 or 5000rpm once and getting the burnt smell after kinda put me off from doing it ever again until I'm sure it's safe to do it.

im using a NPC billet twin plate.... very light clutch pedal, quiet rattle and easy pickup 10/10 in my opinion!

im using the same...NPC billet is the mother of all clutches...properly set-up to each cars requirements is the way to go when buying a clutch. Im not a fan of out of the box, one size fits all clutches. Even a properly set-up custom single plate will out perform most of the multi plate off the shelf offerings.

Hi Guys, im new to this forum,

Ive just bought a GTR last week with supposibly 330 RWKW and a Os giken twin plate.

I think it has more like 280rwkw and the clutch is screwed.

It slips really badly and is on its way out shortly.

What clutch should i get, keeping in mind i only drive the car on the weekend and maybe ill try a track day.

I obviously dont need a twin plate again, How much do you need to spend to hold say 310rwkw?

^ same, orc 709d. When new it was a right bitch to get going, unless using a generous serving of rev's and a rapid release.. now it is very nice but with a decent bite. Seems to handle everything I have thrown at it so far, and I'm not real kind. Jangles like everything is stuffed with the clutch in, makes a funky noise on cranking.. all part of the character.

Haha forgot to mention the sound, its pretty noisy but i haven't really heard other twin plates to compare.

I like the sound, sounds 'tuff.'

    • There is a LOT of stuff that can be done, it all depends on how much time and money you want to spend on doing in.  Not all ECUs will be able to do it, and the more control you need the more time and knowledge needs to be put into making it work.  If you're willing to spend the time and money and have the right hardware and skills involved there's a lot that can be done. 
    • I am impressed with all this level of adjustment. I didn't expect all this possibility
    • Correct.  In the case of the 500kw dyno plot I showed you the car actually runs two boost control solenoids for boost control and a 5psi wastegate spring.  It allows me to control how much boost pressure is applied to both sides of the wastegate valve at any point and fairly accurately control boost target as a result. I've tuned it so that it's able to target anywhere from 5psi to 25psi depending on what's needed.  The target tables I've set up in that car are Gear vs RPM, so every gear has potential for a different boost (and torque) curve.   First and second gear have quite low boost targets, third gear actually has different target boost all the way through the rpm range as it's a stock RB25 gearbox - the boost targets have been chosen to maintain a peak of 600nm (what the owner has set as the maximum torque he's happy with putting through the stock 3rd gear) but it carries that to the rev limiter.   The boost curve to achieve that is something of a ramp up, then hold, then ramp up again and the power curve looks more like a flat line haha.  
    • so you can decrease or increase the boost depending on the diet as you wish?     by acting on the wastegate?
    • That's torque and power, it's all from a single run.  The boost curve is "held back" from it's peak target in the 3500rpm to 5000rpm range from memory, so it ramps hard to something like 18psi then climbs more progressively to 23psi nearer 5000rpm.   It makes the torque (and power) ramp more "natural" and less hard on parts and traction, it doesn't feel artificially held back.
