picked me up some sweet repeat action with IQ thingy for $20/month $0 setup/install the other day.

i use tpg, $50 for 50gb ADSL2+ i sync at 19,000kbps. never had an issue, use a download scheduler and i am getting speeds of 1.3mb off rapidshare... pretty good for me.

The shaping/slowness of the TPG really is annoying i must admit, few years ago i had TPG and they were doing it back then... most people dont care enough though to ring support and abuse em... i need my internet for working from home @ all hours... so its gotta be fast all the time day/night/whenever

TPG Tech Support is from Manila (I think they only do 1st level support).

I'm with Internode and been with them for about 4+ years and i've only had 1 dropout connection that wasn't self inflicted (the tullamarine exchange got flooded) but other than that it's been rock solid. Yes I'm paying a pretty penny ($100 for 40gig on 8 megabit connection) but the service relability is great and tech support is excellent.

Alot of people like TPG because its cheap and have high usage. Personally I don't like peak/offpeak plans. For someone like me where i'm at work 5 days a week, I wouldn't use peak usage much and completely use off peak usage with downloads. I rather have a flat usage plan that I can use my usage whenever I want. Also TPG don't do B-PAY which is a major turn off

Have been with Netspace ever since FreeNet went under (mid 90's?).

Customer service is really good although wait times have increased recently.

I have had 3 drop outs that I can recall - but that is not saying much. I can hardly remember what I did 2 nights ago!

Since I can only get ADSL1 I am on a 1500x30GB plan. $50 ain't bad and I have found that their customer service

absolutely destroys iiNet's (family members were with iiNet).

Haven't tried Internode, but I have only heard good things about them.

I can go up to 150/mth i reckon, is that too little? I reckon not. And probably i can download say minimally 10gb at least, just for files. Does surfing count towards your quota? About 7gb a month on anime alone. Per episode per show is about 250mb, i can watch up to 7 or 8 shows a week, and a month, more than 10gb i reckon. More is always better than less yeah?

And my modem is ADSL2+ i checked. Used when i was still on my previous ADSL plan.

Choosing an ISP really comes down to what your after.

In my opinion if your after great customer service and dont mind paying that bit extra, try Westnet (www.westnet.com.au).

They may not be as competitive as others but are probably the easiest to deal with.

Also, make sure you choose a shaping option as it wont lead to excess charges. The last thing you want to do is find you've gone over your quota with a ridiculous amount of extra charges. This is very important especially if your going to be doing a lot of downloading.

TPG's customer support is in sydney. Don't know where you pulled KL and India from.

$150/month? Thats heaps more than you need to spend. Make it an even $100 and spend $50 on a slab once a month

By your own counting... 10gb in files, 10gb in legally shared episodes 7gb in Anime + web surfing (yes it counts... say 2gb to make it a nice big allowance)

That puts you into around a 50-60gb plan per month.

I would reccomend ADSL2+, and you will need a phone line connected...

So phone line is $30 before you start, or VOIP for $10 (your router might not support VOIP, gotta weigh up the costs)

That leaves you with say, $70 ($100 in total) which will get you 65GB per month - which isnt bad at all for the price IMO.

But shop around, using the whirlpool forums, they are probably the best source of info regarding ISP's in Aus and so on. You'll soon see the calibre of support/service and so on of a ISP with simple searches.

pain is that they don't participate in the churn thing and I have to disconnect Telstra, then connect to iinet!

I'm looking at getting adsl2+ at the moment (currentley on cable) and looking at either dingoblue or dodo (yes I know i'm ashamed). Does anybody know how the capping works with the unlimited plans on dingoblue, when you read the plan details there are all sorts of things about how torrent ports are capped at certian times etc? Anyway the reason i'm interested in dodo is for the same price as tpg the off peak times are 1am-1pm as opposed to 3am-9am with tpg....

I wouldn’t say that at all. I totally disagree.

Cable plans are generally more expensive, restricted and dont neccesarily offer faster speeds in many cases for the price differential/download limit

Have been with TPG for approx 5 years, if something breaks, there customer service is pretty poor.

There call centres for support are not all in Sydney, they are at partially or mostly offshored.

That said, there cheap and reliable, the system rarely fails, that said I wouldn't recommend to anyone non-technical or who is impatient, if you have the money there are better providers out there.

I just connected (as in 30 min ago, yay internets) to TPG naked dsl. I went with them based on price/MB on a naked plan.

I wanted to stick with Optus cable, which I had been with for 8 years, because I was happy with the pricing and speed, but it's not available in my area.

Given my proximity to the exchange I think cable would be a faster option, but alas not to be.

So far my experience with TPG support suggest at least part is based in canada.

TPG said its normal speed for that distance? Fastest I have ever seen a file come down is 180kb/s.

4mbps is alright, its better than 512kbps or 128kbps, or 56kbps haha

adsl2+ speeds vary all over the shop, i remember in my old job at a top 10 ISP the adsl2+ speeds we surveyed where all over the joint, hardly any where near the maximum

from memory we had one guy get 26mbps, all the rest were WAYYYYY under
