G'day

my stagea has just clicked over to 85000 ks and with the snow season just around the corner i figured i should get any major service work done sooner rather than later

The car is pretty much standard with hi/lo boost switch and a pod filter... its a series 2 stagea (rb25 neo)

What i was thinking of doing was the following

- timing belt

- spark plugs

- clean pod filter (k+n)

- oil change

- bleed brake system / new brake fluid

- usual check fluid levels ect ect

the brakes have been re machined and new lining on the pads about 5000 ks ago

anything else i should do

i usually use gulf 1 - 10w60 synthetic oil in it

what spark plugs should i use?? any recommendations of which ones to use, or which ones to stay away from

what timing belt should i get i have seen those gates timing belts but maybe i should stick with the genuine nissan one seeing how critical a timing belt is and the fact that my engine is standard aswell, although gates belts are usually pretty high quality belts i think i would trust a geniune nissan one...

Thanks in advance

Rick

If youre planning on keeping the car for quite a long time, things I would do would be everything you have listed plus:

Get a hold of one of the just jap timing kits - they include gates belt (yes they are as good as nissan if not better), tensioner and idler bearings, cam and front main oil seals.

Have all of that fitted, and while youre at it, replace the water pump just for good measure..theyre only like $80 odd from nissan and 15mins to fit.

Off the top of my head i think the plugs you need are the BCPR6ES NGKs.

If they havent been done while you have owned the car, think about the gearbox, transfer, diff and ATESSA oils.

Once again if youre padantic, change the oxygen sensor as well. Expected life of those is about 100,000kms.

if you are in somewhere that gets snow, personally i would be going to a thinner oil. a 60 grade oil is a rather thick oil, especially when the rated oil by nissan is only about 30 i think (think it might be 7.5w30). so unless you have a lot of mods (which you don't) or the engine has done a lot of kms (which it hasn't) or has oil usage issues, i would get a thinner oil (it will also give you better fuel economy). for cold climates, especially if the car will be parked outside during the day at all and most definately if parked outside at night, i would suggest something with either a 0 or 5 cold viscosity and about a 40 or at most 50 hot viscosity. unless you really thrash the car a lot a 40w hot viscosity will be fine, since nissan only had a 30w oil as the standard recommended oil.

Gday Rick, i can highly recommend the 100K kits from KUDOS motorsport. My brother has a STAGEA and he put in a 100K kit last week, i am going to put one in my R33 soon too. Great value and super quick delivery too.
