I've now bought one as well to go with the fujitsubo exhaust that has just arrived.All i need to do is get a front pipe with hi flow cat and things will be smooooooth, but hopefully not too loud. :)

Hi Guys

I managed to get access to a hoist and some help (thanks Iain & Ben) on Saturday so decided to install the new dump pipe.

I was fortunate that I was able to talk to Jetwreck who had taken out his turbo himself and could give me some advise on how to get it out. He described working on the turbo and dump like, like working on a ship in a bottle and he is not wrong.

If you want to do this your self you need a hoist. I could not image doing this on the ground.

To get access to the nuts on the top of the dump you will need to.

* unbolt the exhaust from the dump pipe.

* unbolt the tail shaft at the back of the gear box.

* undo the bolts that keep the pipes for the attesa system in place around the tail shaft.

* undo the 4 bolts on the gear box cross member and lower the gear box by about 2-3 inches. (watch the Atessa pipe as you do this)

You will now have a tiny bit of access to the dump pipe but it is still ridiculously tight.

To undo the nuts on the dump pipe you will need a variety of tools from ring spanners to sockets with 1 - 2 uni joints and very long breaker bar.

The bottom nuts are the easy ones but the top 2 on the passenger side are hell.

We got the dump off in 2 1/2 hours.

When you remove the original dump you will need to remove the support bracket on the exhaust end and reuse on the new dump. This support is spot welded to the dump and requires a bit of work to get it off. This bracket supports the exhaust joint and is threaded so the original bolt can be used to join them. With out this support your exhaust will flex.

It took only 1/2 hour to put the new one back in. One thing to be aware of is that the nuts from the factory have a large flange on bottom edge and there are 1 - 2 nuts that need to be replaced with a nut that has little to no flange to fit on the new dump.

The O2 sensor is a bit of a pain to get out and put back in but patience and little hands will do the trick.

Bolt it all back together and you are set. (Iain may be able to post up some pics later on the difference between the 2 pipes)

The results and defiantly one of the best bang for you buck mods. The car feels more responsive to the throttle, is spooling up up earlier in the rev range. I am seeing full boost (14psi) from just over 2500 rpm. The results off the mark are well worth the effort.

The noise of the exhaust is a little louder and the exhaust note is a little deeper. You hear a bit more turbo whistle.

But I am a happy boy with the results. :P

Good job, it sounds nearly as hard as changing the whole turbo, only a few more bolts. :P

Why did the back of the engine have to be dropped? Was this to get to the top nut on the flange?

Yes, if it was not dropped you would really struggle to get to the O2 sensor and the top nut.

I forgot to mention. You should loosen the nuts holding the air box before dropping the gearbox.

Ive just recently got a full system on from West, (which i think is the same dump). Heaps more responsive. 3" pipe, metal cat and twin tip muffler. Cat sits a little bit lower than oem exhaust so i gotta watch those speed humps. Heaps happy with the guys work, it looks mad and has a real nice note. The missus hasnt complained about the noise yet so it cant be to bad!!

Is yours a white M35?

Beau was telling me about your car this morning and I think there are a few shots of your dump on this thread.

He was saying that the set up on your car was a bit different to mine when he got it, like it as not quite factory and had already had some exhaust changes done.

I got the O2 sensor out from the top, but I had to remove the top stud from the turbo to remove the dump.

    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.  
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
