why dont you just do the maths on paper to workout the best turbo and go from there?

because this is australia my friend.. and there arent many people like u or myself who would like to do things properly.. hence y 90% of shit is half assed

"easier" to bolt different turbos rather than read a comp map against engine flow characteristics

well we have done that to a point where we like the t04e, and we wanted to trial it.

if the trials go the same way as the maths then we have done something right :)

and we will get a genuine garrett

but at this stage the china copy has been quite good, just this issue about spinning has been the only thing

and its been really good to learn about the differances between different brands as were only reasonably new to the sport.

the forum has allready helped us to narrow down the selection, were just in the testing phase now ;)

yeah fair enough

I am a little open minded when it comes to these china turbo's. i saw one r33 with 360rwkw and has done for a year or more. not sure how much more it lasted though.

well thats the thing, even reading around on here and elsewhere, there are almost equal positive to negative stories, and many of the negative stories of the china turbos appear to be beased on hearsay, the actual people running th egear seem to be reasonably happy with it.

yes its from china.

so?

it seems that bar a few teething issues some of these turbos are ok, and thats what i really want to find out

Genuine Garrett what?

A TO4E is a 30yr old design... you could buy something much newer and gain some really good performance

Yeah I'm a bit on the fence... the fella that i sold my set-up to said it lasted about 10 mins... but he looked like he was pretty rough with his gear and installs... judging by his RX7...

But my brother put on on his VP wagon...

Ran 17.xx before can't remember MPH,

But now he's running 13.3 @ 107MPH... doing a good job till the oil seal went in it...

yeah i was hearing similar stories aswell, but so far it has not had a problem, and i like the T04e atm as its more responsive then the t 70, but idealy i would hang a gt35r on the side, but we will see.

i solved it today by the way, i slowly manually spun the wheel while dripping oil in the feed and letting it come out the return, did this for a few minutes and let it sit, connected it all up again, toped up the oil and away it went, no dramas

lol sorry i didnt put that right, turns out when i removed the inlet one of the times a bit of swarf fell in the hole, but not all the way into the chamber, so the oil coimg in was being slowed down heaps by the swarf sticking back up into the feed.

so by taking it all off and spinning it around manually showed that there was no actual problem with the turbo, but the oil feed, so i looked inside the hose and found the swarf sticking up inside, removed it, re attached it. and hey presto

    • I'm running a Haltech Platinum Pro with the stock map for the RB20DET + tweaks for my build. When I started it this morning, the IAT was at 32F/0C (Outside temp was ~42F) and the AFRs went off the scale for my AEM gauge. I let it run for ~30 seconds then turned it off. I then did a smoke test, by hooking into a vacuum line directly behind the throttle body, and confirmed there was no leaks ( i let the smoke tester run for ~5 minutes / confirmed it was generating smoke before hand ). I then started the car again, after fixing a power steering leak.... and it seemed to be happy for ~30 seconds (was at ~11/12), but then seemingly shot back up to ~18 again. I then let the car run for a few minutes, thinking this was just cold start related, but the AFRs never came back down. I didn't let the car fully warm up, so maybe this makes sense, but I'm not sure what to do? The AFRs, when I last ran it, were normal, but because of personal reasons I haven't been able to break in the car. It was rebuilt last year.
