I was thinkling to instal some race seats into my R33 GTST and was wondering:

a) are they legal? (I'm in NSW)

b) can I use the stock seat belts or do I need to install a race harness?

Honestly this is for styling only so unlikley they will ever get any serious use.

Any advice

At the risk of sounding like a complete noob, what sort of mod plate?

Thx in anticipation.

A modified plate or seating rails. The key is to have them fitted flush to the floor so there's no jitterbugging or rattling.

A mod plate is an engineeers certificate approving your seat install.

Fixed back seats are legal but it requires a mod plate and turns your car in to a 2 seater.

That is for QLD.

This guy already stated he is in NSW.

Go talk to an engineer (there is a list on the RTA website of registered signatories) and they will tell you exactly what to do, dependant on your individual situation.

As a general comment though, fixed back seats are not acceptable in a 2 door car as the rear passengers cannot get out (or in for that matter). So it would need to be engineered and re-registered as a 2 seater vehicle.

There are race seats that can recline (as your standard seat does) but generally aren't as supportive as fixed backs.. Also look at the option of GTR seats maybe.

To be clear, the term "race seats" is thrown around to liberally. It really covers almost every bucket-type seat these days. So it can include fixed back or reclining. Check with those engineers and you will be sure to have the right answer to suit your requirements.

As for seatbelts, generally the standard belts will work, but obviously wont provide as much support. You would need to look at the seat on an individual basis to see if the design of it allows either type of belt.

Also make sure the seats you are putting in have an 'ADR approved' tag on them.

Bear in mind this doesn't necessarily mean they are a 'safe' or 'good' seat but will make engineering more straight forward.

I made up box section steel rails with high tensile bolts for ADR approved seats on my old car and John at Consulmotive passed them OK.

    • Hey everyone!!  I've noticed that whenever I do my oil changes, after putting 4L in, the oil level sits at the top mark in the dipstick. This is after letting the old oil drain for a very long time too! I've checked the oil level daily for the past few mornings. It happens every time and it's confusing because all the threads say that it should take about 4.7L (With some just adding the full 5L) My next thought is to figure out if the dipstick I have is correct so could someone please tell me the length of the RB25DET engine oil dipstick?  I've checked images of some of the genuine dipsticks, but none of them have the length in it. https://justjap.com/products/genuine-nissan-engine-oil-level-dipstick-fits-nissan-r34-skyline-c34-stagea-c35-laurel-y34-cedric-gloria-rb25de-t-neo?currency=AUD&srsltid=AfmBOortQXofgmiHVRKuIaiKuygL4k0Ewp68c3isGZk0vvKOJ7Yqf3iB However.... the engraving on the genuine ones say 05002 while mine says AA000. This makes me believe that maybe I have a wrong dipstick? I just want to confirm before I buy a new one. The car is a fresh import from Japan so I don't have details of the previous owner to ask him. Thanks in advance 🙏🏾
