Just wondering if anyone can explain HICAS in a bit more detail.

I'm looking at an M35 RS 250T ECU, but it was from a HICAS vehicle.

I'm wondering if the HICAS runs without communication with the ECU?

I want to make sure the mapping will be as similiar as possible to my ecu.

It also getting information from the steering wheel so that it turns the rears in the correct direction...

But... if you are worried, I'm sure you could just remove the Super HICAS system, and install a locking bar like many of the R33 and R34 guys... It's probably the same part.

he's more after what is communicated between the engine ecu and hicas ecu. also i'm not sure the hicas lock bar from a R33 or R34 would be suitable for the M35, but it wouldn't be hard to modify one to fit, or even make one up.

to answer the original question some more, in previous nissan models the engine ECU's haven't been hicas or non-hicas specific, the hicas runs just the hicas using a couple of signals and sensors from the vehicle. so if you are worried about any hicas ecu imposed ignition or fuel map changes to the engine ecu, don't be, there aren't any.

I don't think it will be any problem at all for your planned use.

The HICAS has no bearing on the engine parameters.

Some of the basics are that it only works above 40kmh and only steers with the front wheels.

When I looked the ECU part up on FAST it only gives one part number for all VQ25DET's

Cheers

Andy

Sorry for hijacking the thred but i got a S2 RS FOUR S. Is there a way to temp disable the HICAS ie pull a fuse or something. I'm not quite sure if i like it yet. I mean its good in the wet but in the dry its a pain.

Yeah man RS FOUR S's come with HICAS...thats a pain so realy sounds like the only way would be to remove the actuators n put a rod in..

what do you mean its a pain though? i cant speak for the newer nissans, andy56b has said HICAS kicks in from around 40kph. but in the older models it only kicks in above 80kph. i had it in my old skyline, it was good for windy roads with 100kph speed limits. but shit for track/drift when you want the rear to be predictable.

im all for hicas, like you said, if youre not taking your stagea on the track, then its perfect for the road.

it was in an R33 sedan that i had on loan till my stagea came in, it was friggen awesome!

i think a lot of people dont like it because they have heard what other people have said about it, who have heard what other people have said about it, who also have heard what others have said about it.

nissan wouldnt put it on 100000s of cars a year if it was shit.
