Just a quick one...

Since im still looking for that perfect M35 im constantly comming across M's with out some of the features im after... sunroof's, tv, aerokit. But since the sunroofs would be way too much $$$ and i dont like cutting a perfectly good roof up, and an aerokit could be quite pricey considering you would have to blend half the car to get a good finish on the paint (slight perfectionist that i am)... This leads me to thinking if I were to buy an M without the tv sat nav gear what would you need to get it all going?

Questions I have are...

Can you get the tv unit and run other gps through it?

Has anyone pulled one of these out and seen what inputs are in the tv itself?

What are the odds of finding the tv and stuff in oz (thinking IM would ahve to be the go to get this gear)

What would it cost? vs difficulty of install...

Thanks in advance....

since the TV unit needs a $400 aftermarket tuner and the Nav doesn't work at all and probably never will (no aussie maps), all you are getting is the fuel consumption stuff basically.

I'd say go for an aftermarket double DIN GPS TV DVD unit to repace the stereo and seriously just buy one with sunroofs and aero.

Mine has the TV etc but in hindsight I would have preferred the aero and I do miss sunroofs. I have had an in dash double din touchscreen allin one nit before and it rocked. The pop screen is cool factor only really, and by the time i've putmy aero kit on and got it painted I would have paid enough for a cusotm pop up screen install i reckon.

I think you would be best getting your M without the TV/Sat Nav option if that is a the one compramise you have to make. The sat Nav will not work in Australia will not work anyway. The TV is an easy fix for about $400.

If you can get one with the single din head unit you can look to choose an aftermarket head unit that has GPS/DVD/TV & ipod input.

That would be my preference.

but if I was to buy the pop up tv itself are you able to use it as an av out option from an after market headunit?

The factory screen is NTSC only so you will need a unit that outputs to NTSC.

I don't know enough about the how the screen plugs into the system so can not answer. Chris Rogers would probably know the answer to this question.

Come along to the meet tomorrow any I am sure you will see a few different solutions.

as Andy said it's NTSC as per Japan TV. You can buy the screens off importMstr as they come up all the time but I don't know whether it'd be cost effective. I think you'dprob have to get a fair bit of work done to fit the OEM screen to a car that didn't have it.

You'd certainly be able to buy a cable to get a aftermarket deck to send vid to the screen but the deck would have to output ntsc.

Maybe consider buying a local DVD unit and adding a screen. There's plenty of places around who can do nice custom work to make up a screen and you could get it to deploy from the dash, or even more :).

this is my localguy and there's examples in his gallery of pop up screens:

On the G35 Driver site there is also a couple of threads about installing screens in the OE position. There are companies in the US making a mechanism that will go up and down like the factory.

I was looking at a 7 inch touch screen monitor that from China that looked interesting. Would be good to fit that the OE mechanism and then you can really have some fun.
