Quick question - how "possible" would it be to setup the auto shifter to work with the series-1 auto?

Ive got access to Mike from MV Automatics at blackwood, just up the road for me; with him being the auto wizard Id think it could be possible

your thoughts?

anything special to it? or simply plug and play - ie install and use

Id think Mike @ MV Auto should be able to set it up if I cant...................

when I 1st bought my stagea I really wanted the S2 for the larger turbo and triptronic auto shifts, but 18k compared to 26k just wasnt in my budget.

now, for $40, auto service and some fiddling around to install, say $450 max(?), its affordable to do, and it'd make my powerful Rb25 that much more fun to drive.

peace :D

bitch you outbid me.wunder if it was darrins

bwahaahhaha Mike

welll... i don't know how soon you want to go about it but i'll soon be replacing my s2 tiptronic setup with a manual box so if you want to work something out pm me - i'm in adelaide too :D

cheers Mike, I'll go see Mike at MV's and see whats possible with my current setup 1st.

Reminds me of lyrics from a Beastie Boys classic song:

"Here's another one for y'all to peep,

It's called M-I-K-E on the M-I-C..."

Right around 3.30 in this clip, but it appears in another song too, just can't remember which one.

By all means see the specialist but I fear it may not be that easy. The gearbox is the same but the auto ecu may be different. With the S1 the auto ecu is inside the main ecu which is why I am having trouble getting a chipped ecu. Since the S1 ecu can't (easily) be chipped X-tune has chipped an R32 ecu but that doesn't run the auto. So he is basically piggy backing both ecus together. With the S2 this is not necessary which makes me think that the S2 auto ecu may be elsewhere. In that case you may need an S2 loom, ecu, and auto ecu but the neo injectors and cam control are different. Nothing that can't be overcome! On the bright side if you do all that you should be able to run a Vipec or Nistune!

Hopefully I am wrong and it will be very simple.

i thought the trans had slight differences, as i know the service kits and valve bodies are different

nope, S2 auto ecu is apart of the engine ecu aswell. its just easier to chip because it has a different chip type than the R33/S1 Stagea.

Please correct me if I am wrong, I was of the impression the S1 Stagea had an R33 Series 2 motor and ecu with an R34 pin pattern.
Yes you are right but although the plug is the same as the R34 the pinouts vary in a few cases and the ecu internally is not exactly the same as either the R33 or R34 Skyline.

    • The Frenchy's kit is the way to go forward. A modern compressor that weighs about 1/2 as much, is at least twice as efficient, and will do a good job on R134a. And of course the kit has everything else you need to connect it up and have it work properly.
    • Hey all , I am in the process of having the AC system in my r32 GTST converted from r12 to r134a and I’m being told my compressor has gone bad and I will need a new one. I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for what is the best route to go aside from dropping $1500 on a new oem one? I did see that Frenchy’s performance garage offers a kit to mount a Toyota compressor, has anybody actually used this kit on their car? Or is there anywhere I could purchase just a clutch? Any help is appreciated.
    • Well, your RB20 ECU loom won't have wires for the boost solenoid, that boost sensor, and possibly one or two other things. There could be differences in seemingly random things like the charcoal canister purge solenoid, because the 25DET has to handle boost in the vacuum system and the 20DE does not. I don't know - I haven't looked. It is very likely that all the most important things are same-same, being the main sensors like AFM, CAS, etc, and the injectors and ignition. Not that you'll need the AFM for the Haltech anyway. I would suggest that you would seriously want to sit down with the pinouts for both ECUs and just go through them and highlight green what is the same, orange what is different/missing, and make a plan from there. It's not going to be difficult. It will either be the same or need to be fixed.
    • yeaaa that's why I haven't done any wiring to the stock ecu harness because I have the haltech, but then that leads me to the other question of "is the pnp harness really plug and play?" or would I have to still switch some pins/wires over because the pnp is for the rb25det neo harness, and not for the rb20de neo harness. was really hoping to find something to spoon feed me since so many people have done rb20neo + t conversions, but man this is rough.
    • Temu raptor, lol. At least the owner isn't your typical ranger danger lot
