I guess I have more right foot control than most people :bunny:

Though I might also admit that 110km or so was coming back from Brisbane then I did another 320km round trip to somewhere in logan so there is a shitload of highway driving in that :rolleyes: Almost all my usage in it will be highway driving (to logan and back). Once I hit the start of the mountain roads though I swear I can almost see my fuel gauge moving.

First tank of fuel in my Stagea and I've just hit 530km on the tank (which incidently only required 69L and was right on empty) and I'm about half way between empty and the quarter mark so I think I'll easily manage 600km on the first tank.

the last quarter does go by much quicker...

Somewhere on this forum is the litres used at each mark on the guage, as per the manual.

Basically from full, the first quarter you use will be about 17L, then the next measures about 18L, then say another 18L but the last quarter is only about 10 or something. The numbers are slightly different to what I've got here but basically you should go furthest on the 2nd and 3rd quarters according to the guage.

I'm not sure why the guage is designed the way it is, with the last quarter measuring just over half of what the other 3 measure, but thats how it is. So if you think the last quarter always seems to go quickly, its because it does.

its not the gauge, its the shape of the tank, it tapers towards the bottom and has less volume in the lower 1/4 of the tank. its to stop te fuel sloshing around a big open area when youre low so the fuel pump always picksup fuel.

I just spent 5 days driving a new VW Jetta turbo diesel and whilst it was a nice car to drive and economy was unbelievable (5.5l/100km on the high way and 940km on a 60L tank). I can not say I enjoyed driving it, even with the DSG gear box (it changes the wrong way in manual, DOH) it did not feel like a great car the drive. Even going up Tamborine mountain it was just another car.

I got back into my car last night at the airport and so nice to have all that power under the right foot. It does not feel so slow off the mark now and is so easy to get to the posted spped limit. The steering was also lighter and I noticed that in the M35 (leather) you sit up on the seat a little more.

But I LOVE IT, Fuel consumption and all.

Try driving a 1991 Mazda 121 for 2 weeks while a custom radiator is being made up for your M35.

There is no bananaman large enough to express how much I appreciated my car when I got back in it.

I reckon the dsg was half the problem. I hate those things and every car I've driven with that style box has sucked a*#. Manual in a diesel is so much better. In fact my diesel x-trail has so much torque it's quite enjoyable to give it a boot. Not Stagea style but still kicks butt for an SUV.

I picked up someone at the airport the other day and the flight was delayed over an hour. Went out to the carpark and watched TV until I heard the plane land, then had a ball driving home and showing off the "sleeper" wagon.

Ahhh, that's stagea living.

That looks better although I recon you should be able to get a little better on ACT roads and that 5 minute peak hour, oh I'm sorry, that peak hour goes for more like 15 minutes these days, hehehe.

My fill tonight was 14.25litres/100 or 7km/L

Ha! I drive a VZ wagon every day, and the C34 feels like it's 10 years younger than the Commodore - not the other way around...

With the ECUTalk computer fitted, both instantaneous & trip-average consumption is displayed and it's amazing how much it varies during a commute.

I drove from one end of Adelaide to the other (Outer Harbour to Noarlunga) late Saturday night, and averaged just over 11L/100km. But if I drive a 15km trip is daytime traffic, it will average more like 15L/100. I don't even want to talk about how high it reads when going up a slight incline...

I haven't really checked for certain, but I've got a hunch that the car uses slightly less fuel when you accelerate from a standstill using some boost - it's running a higher VE and spending less time under throttle than if you 'baby' it up to speed.

(and it feels muuuch better!)

True, but IDGAF about economy in the dunnydore - it's a state fleet car and I'm just happy if it continues to function...

It looks like I'll be getting a Captiva TD sometime later this year, hopefully it's a nicer drive, but it is a GM Daewoo so I'm not holding my breath!

I had a Daewoo as my first car. Nfi what went wrong but I took it rallying, had to get it towed from the same spot 3 weeks in a row. 3rd week = write off.

My Falcon gets pretty decent economy on LPG. Around 500km to a tank depending on where I go but since all my highway travel will be done in the stagea now I expect that to drop to 450 or so, costs $30-35 to fill up.

Kk, done a proper test now.

Filled car completely, reset odo, when the light came on I refilled and recorded both the odo & how much fuel I put in.

I put in exactly 61L (light turns on when I still have 19L left, odd) - odo read 547km.

Result: 11.15/100km.

I guess this is better than most people get, I rarely put my foot down tho.

Yeah, that's about what I am getting at the moment with city driving and giving it a bit of stick here and there (gotta test if the CAI makes a difference... over and over and over :D )

I got around 8.5-8.8km/L on the trip to the snow on the weekend and that included some really fun driving coming back from Mt Selwyn. 25km of winding roads up and down a valley around the Tumut dam. Then off on another 120km of back roads with logging trucks doing 115km/h so over taking was fun.

I then filled at Goulburn, set the cruise on 120km/h and got 11.4km/L back into Sydney. Got to love that.

But it is going down fast now driving in Sydney traffic again.
