Hot Tips For Getting Hks Fmic Pipe Back On? (last Piece Before Plenum) In A 32 Gtr?

Recommended Posts

Pulled the FMIC piping that goes from the front right wheel well to the plenum yesterday. It doesn't want to go back in, getting it in one silicon hose means the other is nigh on impossible to attach. Trying to think of an item that is flat, won't cut the piping, and strong enough to use as a shoe horn/tyre lever style setup to work the final hose on. Anyone got any hot tips? HKS piping if that makes any difference.

Bastard thing, never as easy as it should be.

Yeah its a bastard to do, I have the same kit with Turbosmart 3" Sleeves haha.

Just use a flatblade screwdriver, you shouldnt need to use the sharp end of it though.

I use a bit of vaseline to help slide it on as well.

I would put the bottom part of the pipe on first, dont clamp it, push it as far on as it will go, then at the top, push the pipe where it needs to go and get the back of the sleeve where it needs to go on the plenum (hardest part).

Then once thats on dont let it slip forward and work the front around with the screwdriver. Very hard to explain, youll get it eventually.

I cant remenber as i sold my hks pipe, but if you slide the top silicon all the way onto the hard pipe, fit the pipe to the lower silicon and then slide the top silicon up, does that make sense?

    • The once piece tail shafts with cv type joints on either end are the ones that end up vibrating and the vibration is caused by the cv joint binding as it turns, I’ve also seen them explode from the binding
    • Take this with a pinch of salt, it's from someone (me) who got annoyed with turbos entirely. I hated aftermarket lines. If I had the option to use hardlines with whatever turbo I had - I would use them, 10/10, 100% of the time. The only reason people go larger, heat resistent, shielded lines etc is because they have to. And yes they don't last forever. Even if you spend big bucks on all the best heat shielding money can buy, with the best heat resistant, fuel resistant, oil resistant, radiation resistant hose, they get stiff and break down and just don't last the way a metal pipe will.

    • Put a piece of tape on it.   If it's that gone, you would be seeing it on the balancer. It would look rooted. Not in this universe.
