I justed ordered from Dell the following setup

Case: Dell Studio XPS 435

Motherboard:

CPU & CPU Cooler: Intel i7-920

RAM: 4x2GB DDR3 SD RAM

Monito: Dell Ultra Sharp 24" 1920x1200

Graphics Card: 1024mb Radeon HD4870

HDD(s): 1TB + 320GB

OS Used: Vista Home Ultimate 64bit

Peripherals: Dell wireless keyboard and mouse, Blue Ray drive

Have also ordered a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro PCI Sound Card to go in.

So to take advantage of the sound card what is recommended for head phones?

i've been looking at Sennheiser RF Wireless Stereo SRS Bass Headphones RS130 as they review quite well. I'm a bass junkie will these do the job? Has anyone used them?

More for music than for gaming.

How much are you looking to spend?

I wouldnt get the creative card, in all honesty i would get the Auzentech Forte or Prelude, they use Creative drivers as a baseline however the card/performance/sound is much better for the money.

Also how much did that PC cost you from Dell?

well i've all ready ordered the card so thats a bummer. Will see how it goes i think it will be ok for what i want to do.

No particular budget in mind for the headphones. Prefer wireless, over ear and closed design. the Sennheiser RS140 might be a better choice.

Dell system was ~5k. Monitor was a big chunk of that.

$5,000... holy shit... that leaves $4000 for a i7 920 setup.

Being the Dell is a $1000 monitor... What is the model number? And is it a PVA or S-IPS panel?

I probably could have built something $1,000 cheaper for ya @ a rough guess, possibly even less than that again

You cant cancel the Creative card order at all? The Creative card certainly isnt 'bad', but ye, could be better i guess for the money.

Also ensure you disable your onboard sound card via BIOS once you install the Creative, they are prone to memory leaks when in windows otherwise. I had this problem (being Auzentech use creative drivers)

Sorry when i said budget i meant for the headphones, what are you looking at spending? The RS140's are around $200, so ill assume thats your limit for now...

Wireless IMO is a bad choice...

I'd recommend the wired Sennheiser HD 555... you can modify them to HD 595 specs in less than 15mins (and the HD 595 are $100 more expensive)

I use a pair of Sony MDR-NC60's both at work and at home (and on the train to cancel out the noise of people on the phone ughhh). The've got passive AND active noise reduction, awesome sound quality etc. The Noise sampling is fully digital and rated as one of the best in the world... which means you don't need it as loud and you can really hear all the little effects and instruments etc.

Be careful with bass, it's very easy to get too much. This is where I find open headphones nice, the DTX800's are kind of half/half so you get the best of both worlds.

You can easily get something more expensive if you want, but usually you won't have either the soundcard or source to make full use of it.

from the UK on amazon.uk of all places alot cheaper to what they're sold in australia. saved on delivery as I had family coming back from there but i got them for around $150 at the time. currenty exchange rates etc. have probably changed the price a bit now though.

I use the headphones for games and music/movies and find them very comfortable and have great sound. try before you buy if you can, people tend to go for different things in headphones etc.
