is the key way still fitted in the cam?

i had a cas snap on me when running without the front cover, pull the cap off the cas and check the shaft isnt broken, also check the condition of the disc inside.

have you found some one else with the same cas so you can test?

not sure, but everything looked intact.. used a torch to look in and i could see the locator

still no luck finding one to test with....

i was able to start the car after removing the cas earlier, but it died again after 4mins or so, idled perfectly and gave me false hope  .. i saw on the pfc ignition timing peak of 49, not sure if thats relevant

i have read ppl state cas can be turned in either director to make the injectors click and spark plugs spark, however i was only able to get it going in only one direction and it wasnt consistent clicking with the no. of turns (not sure if its meant to be consistent)

Are you getting an RPM signal from the ECU through the hand controller while cranking?

If you have fuel pressure, injector pulse, coil packs firing and compression in the engine.....as long as the timing is correct then it will start.

Try checking timing with a timing light while cranking to see what it comes up as

im only getting RPM signal on PFC controller intermittently, its when I do see it, im able to get it to startup on occassions, otherwise 95% of the time, no RPM action

im having a similar issue to DRFT33

when i crank the engine normlly it wont start

but if i turn the cas prior to cranking it starts and runs.

also if i let it sit idling for a while then turn it off. most times it will start up again without removing the cas.

car is an r32 gts-4 with an rb25neo

what could be the problem?

Hi

long time reader, first post :P, old thread bump but here goes...

I have exactly the same issue with my rb30/26

cranking the cas manually arcs my plugs out and spark is visible and you can smell fuel.

tried all the things that BWRGTR tried and more. had the timing cover off, comp test tried everything but the cas + afm

takin the afm out of my mates pathfinder makes it stall instantly and doesnt turn over, seems like a similar noise to the skyline when it tried to turn.

but apparently it sohuld start without the maf plugged in?

been workin on it non stop for 4 days seriously at the end of the rope lol

could it be the starter?

any input or ideas would be great cuz me and the boys are completely stumped.

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
