zebra
marc - hahaha or seeing like 20 zz30 soarers parked on the side of the road - just.. cos.. - -- they've broken down again. - - and the owner has NO idea what the problem is. Hhahaha mine hasnt broken yet. But i dont have EMV, TEMS or any of that shit. I;d be more thinking that the soarer drivers would be sitting around fapping over some stupidy over priced badly made dump pipes or their BFI's....not actually racing lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/24/#findComment-5486140 Share on other sites
mad082
they could also have the chaser boys with their cars dropped, stupidly high spring rate suspension and buttloads of camber on the rear wheels driving around slowing right down for each bump because either their car bottoms out or they are too scared of it bottoming out, and with flat brimmed caps stuck on top of their helmets. Nice to see that the GT-style over taking has been abolished. /sarcasm Graphics look lovely, but that is a prime example of why DNF's are needed in GT... not to mention proper damage Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/24/#findComment-5486267 Share on other sites

warps
don't know how people can race in that view. shits me off Yeh, me too. Coz, like, I always drive my real car from the front bumper. I'm sure it will be more useable on the 50" plasma - but a zoom function would still be nice. Or won't we have that option either? I'm sure it will be more useable on the 50" plasma - but a zoom function would still be nice. Or won't we have that option either? the problem with the cockpit view is that the pillar gets in the way. in a real car you can look out the side window or move your hear around. the natural field of vision is much greater than on a flat screen. what also shits me is the complete difference in the amount of steering input that the animated driver has to the actual driver. i'd like to see someone do a u-turn on a 2 lane road with only turning the steering wheel 90 degrees. Spurdo
so far i've found the cockpit view pretty awesome despite all the complaining thats happening about it. and my flat screen is only 26" and i sit pretty far away from it, yet i've posted several top 1000, top 500-300 ish times using the cockpit view on prologue. i dont see the issue having straight line only vision from the cockpit, even the front bumper view is still only straight line. if you think about it when you drive a real car at high speeds you might notice that you will probably never turn your head more than 5-10degrees in any direction from straight ahead anyway. and because gt5 is in 16:9 aspect you have a pretty realistic in-game vision given that 16:9 is pretty close to the aspect that you get from human vision anyway. i'll assume every one of you has seen on tv when they have a v8 supercar race every now and then they'll broadcast a view of the driver in any given car, you dont see him making drastic head movements when approaching a corner. like i mentioned before, if the head moves then it doesnt move far. and the view you do get from those subtle movements i'm pretty happy thats pretty much what we're getting from the view in GT5 cockpit. piece. Spurdo
also im interested to know what peoples thoughts are on whether using a good wheel/pedal set is worthwhile, does it make good lap times more achievable? at the moment im just using the controller, but im quite keen on giving that HKS controller a go if it actually comes out.. i've seen no mention of it from retailers in nz yet.. shit i'll even get one shipped over from oz if i have to Edited October 9, 2010 by jonboy Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/24/#findComment-5487556 Share on other sites

Expect your times to go backwards when you switch to a wheel and pedals - you'll wonder why you torture yourself so much. After a while your times should match what you were achieving with the controller, and you might even beat them (although that may not necessarily happen). The whole experience will be a lot better though, so it's well worth it IMO, and you pick up more of the subtle cues of the game that you just don't get with a controller. Oh, and big head turns at high speed are a part of life if you're a fully sik drift god or rally nut Oh, by the way, I was being sarcastic about driving from bumper view. I use cockpit wherever possible -that's half the fun of the game. Of course things like the steering wheel not turning full lock are a bit annoying - I'm surprised they haven't got that properly sorted. Spurdo
Oh, and big head turns at high speed are a part of life if you're a fully sik drift god or rally nut yea.. good call. that never crossed my mind as im far better at grip driving in gran turismo than i am at drift so i seldom do drifting. it would be awesome if they could incorporate different styles of drifting into it. in the game, both hands are firmly planted on the wheel at all times but it would make things more interesting if it gave you the option of using the slip steering method, where you essentially put the power on, get the arse end sliding, let go of the wheel then catch it when the car is at the desired angle and adjust throttle to suit. but since you need to accurately steer every little bit of it, i find it just too difficult to keep a steady throttle/steering with the controller. i guess thats where the value of the wheel and pedals come in, you can hold consistent throttle and steering values for a smother racing line etc rather than simple on or off throttle that i normally have to contend with lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/24/#findComment-5487753 Share on other sites
mad082
if you watch professional racers, they might not turn their head much, but if you watch their eyes they move a lot. goind round a left hand corner the centre of their vision will be the left hand side of the windscreen i just can't use the cockpit view. the steering wheel movement puts me off. i use the front bar view and my times are between 200 and 800 on the online ranking Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/24/#findComment-5487770 Share on other sites
Spurdo
yeah good call.. the eyes will move a lot. i guess as time goes on and polyphony digital receive feedback they'll release updates/patches for it. im guessing if enough people suggest it they would make the cockpit view have dynamic sight where the view may alter depending on your position in relation to the corner, just like in real life. that would be sweet. but then that brings about a new set of problems.. such as did they capture enough image data of the interior of each car in order to pull that off, or did they only capture just enough interior to cater for the existing cockpit view in a fixed position?? and lets not turn this thread into a wank-off over lap times Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/24/#findComment-5487815 Share on other sites
warps
yea.. good call. that never crossed my mind as im far better at grip driving in gran turismo than i am at drift so i seldom do drifting. Yeh the rally mode in GT4 was crap and unrealistic (none of the real life techniques seem to make a difference), so I don't know if it's any better in GT5. Drifting doesn't do a lot for me, so I haven't wasted any time there either. I'm not good at either type of driving IRL, but I take to gravel much better than tarmac. Haha must be my finnish heritage. As for lap times, well you won't be seeing any of my times in the top 1000 (top 1,000,000 maybe). Besides, the best sim racers don't waste their time on playstations. They're too busy racing in I-race leagues or similar. Oh, Jonboy, someone made a patch for GPL where the view turns with the steering wheel (ie the further you turn, the further into the corner you look). I think it was adjustable up to a max of maybe 30 deg. Everyone who tried it soon gave it away (me included) as it tended to make you feel car sick . Someone was playing around with another patch which links to a web cam, and tilting your head would make the FOV turn into the corner. I never did see how that panned out though (escuse the pun) Edited October 9, 2010 by warps Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/24/#findComment-5488208 Share on other sites
Spurdo
this reminds me! im sure a year or so ago i read somewhere that polyphony were devolping software that would utilise a usb camera and could analyse the players eyes and wherever you tried to look it would shift the view accordingly. i forgot all about this until now actually.. has anyone else heard of this?? or am i dillusional. surely it could be done.. although it would have to be a pretty high res camera to accurately track eyeball movements Edited October 9, 2010 by jonboy Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/24/#findComment-5488301 Share on other sites

Spurdo
yea that would be a pain in the ass to have to move your head around. with my current setup, if i moved my head 10 degrees in any direction i wouldnt be looking at the tv anymore lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/24/#findComment-5488917 Share on other sites

MrPing
The Camera is the PS3 Eye (standard camera), and it has been implemented, it tracks your head so if you move it it will copy the movements on screen, I don't know how useful it will be but it is there, and you can look around the pillar if you need to. Some of the reviews say that it is a little laggy, but I guess it is wait and see what happens on release day.
