what happened to all the farken midnight releases? If I preorder anything (GTAIV etc) I do it from eb games in chatswood. well they had a midnight release for black ops 2 weeks ago so I thought surely they'll have one for a game that's been years coming...... nope. nothing. thanks a lot knts. I had planned midnight to 8am gaming session. fkers.

Picked up my Pre-order this morning :P Thought I'd give it a shot before doing the install, bad idea. The game is almost unplayable, the menus take ages to load. Also can't buy a decent starting car from what I've seen as the cars all have required levels to use them. Wanted to start with an R32 gtst :) going to install now then give it a proper go once that's done.

Not as good a review as I was hoping, thats for sure.

That's a bit of a disappointing review.

But I'm a bit of a fanboy of GT, so I'm sure I'll like it regardless

it's no longer possible to upgrade a car's brakes

Gran Turismo 5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped up in a 5/10 game – driving is as exhilarating as anything that’s gone before, and slavish obsession with the minutiae of many of its cars ensure it's an encyclopaedia of automotive delights. Its brilliance on the track, however is matched by its sloppiness off of it, and there’s a lack of polish that would at one time have seemed sacrilegious to the series. Ultimately its driving wins out to ensure that it’s still a great game, but it leaves that nagging doubt; this could have been a masterpiece were it not for the fact that Polyphony was so absorbed with the detail that it took its eye off the ball.

oh snap

So Forza 3 has more fully detailed cars, has more modification options, better damage modeling (which isn't saying much), more online options and better menu systems.

Worth the wait?

I just played it at JB for a few minutes and it felt like... Gran Turismo. The graphics weren't as good as I thought they would be (though some of the cars look fantastic). I felt like I was playing GT3/GT4 with HD graphics, which is a big FAIL in my books. I think I'll wait for it to go platinum before getting it.

I'd be interested to hear what the guys that purchased it think of the game after they play it for a while.

Thats a better review than a couple of other I have seen, tbh I dont care about menu screens.

I just hope some of you guys are right about more premium cars being released, kinda makes sense to me...as it was no doubt rushed into production after the backlash of many delays.

were people expecting a new totally revolution in racing games? or just the next evolution of GT?? I havent played it yet (its at home calling to me) but i was primarily hoping for some tweaked physics nicer graphics, some newer cars etc etc.

I dont care about what vinals i can put on a car, or what colour i can make the wheels etc etc, its a racing game, not barbie dress ups on wheels.

I must admit i tihnk the lack of internal view for ALL cars is a bit of a shame... that said i always raced nose cam so i'm not too put out.

Now if only they'd make it so you can stall the car if you clutch out with no revs.. then i'd be happy.

One thing i will add tho... i'd like to give froza ago just cos it also looks fun... the fact that the g27 doesnt work with the xbox ticks me off tho so i will probably end up skipping it (i'd buy the xbox just for forxa if it was compatible)

For 5 (6 actually) years work? Probably. Their 'tweaked' physics is probably one of the reasons you can't change the brakes on cars.

Has anyone else heard the stupid radio add for GT5?

Yeah the way Polyphony made it out, was that it was a brand new game, just with an existing name...Its now obvious that this isnt the case.

so kinda dissapointed, but I hate X-boxes so def not getting forza and if I want awesome physics and racing I'll play LFS

a lot of reviews seem to almost be nitpicking at things to find faults because it is finally out.

yeah i too drive on bumper cam. tried the cockpit view but the drive constantly taking his hand off the wheel to change gears even if you didn't end up needing to just shit me. plus the fact that the amount of steering wheel movement was totally unrealistic was also annoying. i'm also just expecting it to be an upgraded version of GT5 prologue. i'm not expecting it to be some totally different game with totally different handling, etc.

actually it was much less than 5 or 6 years work. it was more like 3 years work. they scrapped a lot of the stuff they used in GT5 prologue. people just seem to think that the moment they put out GT4 they started on GT5. the PS3 console didn't even come out until 2006/2007, and was only a prototype in 2005, so you can't count that as being production time.

:D So you mean that wasn't God talking directly to me?

I might just wait for it to go platinum before I pick it up... which should be by tomorrow anyway :bunny:

Quite a lot of negativity from reviews and what I have seen in vids... can anyone that has it confirm that there is only damage the cars that have cockpit view?

I wasn't expecting an entirely new game - I was just expecting something considerably better/different than GT4. It might simply be that I'm over video games, but GT5 doesn't do anything for me at this stage. It seems like they were so focused on the 'details' that they lost sight of the bigger picture. I might be judging it very harshly but I think they have dropped the ball with this game. From what I've played, it doesn't really bring anything fresh or new to the gaming experience. Each to their own I suppose.

Yeh that';s a worry. I usually turn of the wheel if possible for that very reason.

Still, I remember the hype when GT4 was released, and the game didn't live up to much of it. Nontheless, it's still a fun game. In the same way, I don't think GT5 will ive up to the hype, but will still be fun.

As I've said before, If you want a hardcore driving sim, you wouldn't be looking to PS3 / Xbox / Wii for your gaming needs, and certainly not the GT series of games. Still, it's great light entertainment so I think it will still be enjoyable. Come to think of it, the reviews are pretty much exactly what I always expected of the game. I may have hoped for a lot more realism, but not being a proper simulator, I doubted that it would deliver. No great loss, and I'm sure it will sell well if for no other reason than people get to drive lots of cool cars and pretend to be [insert your favourite motorsports hero]

    • Ok sounds good. Hopefully if I end up changing it to the nismo bushes I don't get that veering issue. I don't think there's a point in lubing up these bushes again. Weird that it it makes just as much noise with all the grease inside it versus without grease prior to removal. Bizarre.
    • Yeah, you don't need camber bushes on stock arms to make a car drive straight unless it's got another problem. F'rigsample, slide the thing into a kerb, bend the front subframe mounts a little....subframe is now twisted, shifted or otherwise in the wrong spot...and you need to do funky stuff with the wheel alignment to get it to drive straight. Maybe a little more caster on one side, or a little more camber. FWIW, I can have my camber off side to side by a half a degree or more, and either way, so more one side, or more on the other, and the car doesn't really want to pull to one side. It will definitely ride road camber differently, and want to track uphill (ie, towards the centreline when on the LHS of a normal crowned piece of road, like it should) or want to roll downhill (which it really shouldn't). But on fairly flat road surfaces, like the middle of a 3 or 4 lane motorway, a half a degree either way doesn't make a lot of difference. I sometimes do quite a few miles with my wheel alignment messed up, because I don't always get a chance to set it right again after a serious dismantling, before I have to drive it to work again. Like, a whole week's worth of daily shuffle.
    • To clarify, I meant nismo bushes, not control arms (don't even think that's a thing for my car). So the suspension specialist said, if I buy those nismo bushes which are perfectly centered it will cause my car to veer in one direction. Whereas he said the current offset bushes that I have were put in on purpose to fix that issue. This will be my third wheel alignment if I put these bushes in lol. My chassis is straight, all my rails are clean.
    • OK, well, in that case, the suspension specialist is either a moron, or you aren't understanding what he was trying to tell you. Nismo arms are not really different than stock arms. Both are fixed geometry. I don't know if the Nismo ones are a little shorter than the stockers (or perhaps even a little longer) or the same length, but....if you swap from stock to Nismo, whatever happens to one side will happen to the other side. It will not cause it to steer left or right. That is unless you have adjustable bushes in your stockers, and they happen to be adjusted to dial out some bent chassis shenanigans. But, if that were the case, you'd just put adjustables in the Nismo arms anyway, because Nismo arms are essentially just expensive stock arms. And doing a wheel alignment is just a weekly thing in my world. I have had the suspension apart so many times this year that I've lost count and just about worn out a torque wrench. I'm out in the shed right now cutting up some alloy section and making bases for my new stringline setup. Got to make new swivel plates next, then I'm good to do toe properly, as well as camber and bump steer.
    • Yeah, nah. Not a thing. The gasket between the top of the plenum and the runners is far more likely to blow out when it gets old, and not really at ~14 psi. These things have been run to double that for 30 years without that being a common thing.
