OK, so for the complete noobs at PS3 interwebs (ie me) how do you get the update through a wireless modem? Does the PS3 support your 3G wireless modem for internet? Or do you download it on your PC/laptop and then copy it over to PS3 on a USB stick?

and where do you get the patch from? a quick google only seems to turn up forum talk about the patch rather than a download link...

by the looks of it you can't download it to your pc first (i went looking to see if you could).

also i don't think you can use a 3g wireless internet usb dongle with the ps3, however you can get those new 3g wireless modems that you connect to wirelessly (doesn't have to be plugged into a usb port), but that won't be of much help to you. the other, most simple option, is to get an ethernet cable and connect your ps3 to your computer and then use the internet connection wizard to share the connection. you will have to download system updates as well as the previous updates, so make sure you have at least 1gb of data available on your account. wouldn't want to get halfway through and have it cut out, or to have to pay for penalty rates for extra download data

see here for how to do it

Why did they skimp on the car engine sounds etc?

Maybe its just me, but Hot Pursuit sounds a heck of alot more accurate ie the whailing of the Gallardo. Yes this game is about the accurate physics and handling of a car, but im all about the little things too.

theres a big difference between accurate sound reproduction, and whatever you might find more audibly pleasing. games like NFS are all about the "action packed wow excitement" factor and i'd bet money that they spend a lot of time re-engineering the car sounds to suit their target demographic (which does not consist of simulation enthusiasts who want realism) this means they will be dramatizing everything to make it more appealing to kids, hektiks, fast and furious fanboys etc. when it comes to actually re-producing the sound of a given vehicle accurately, my money is with polyphony.

and unless you drive in cockpit mode 100% of the time, it rarely will sound anything like what you thought it should sound like. whenever you've seen the car on tv, or even in real life close up, you never had your head fixed exactly to the front bumper of the car, nor was it fixed in the 3rd person while the cars moving, so the car is going to sound totally different from each perspective, and then it will constantly vary again with speed and relative airflow at speed from each perspective. so the only sound you can really criticize (if the sound genuinely is way off) is the sound from inside the cockpit, if you regularly drive the exact same car in real life. then you may say "thats unrealistic"

just go out and buy the longest ethernet cable you can find and just run it between your modem and the ps3 if you are too lazy to move the ps3

nah check it, ima get as high tech as possible here: I'll use my phone as a tether modem to the computer via a USB cable and use my phone-plan 3G for the d/l (which Optus allows), then send that out to the PS over the wi...

depends. my mobile is pretty fast. i just did a speed test on my phone (via the speedtest.net app) and this is what i got. upload was about 1/3 of what it normally is as i had only just turned on the data and it wouldn've been sending info out to update motoblur

screenshotoh.jpg

the phone 3G is much quicker at home than the supposed 'broadband' Unwired modem

as i said earlier shaun, just make sure you have at least 1gb of data on your plan because it will want you to do multiple gt5 updates and an OS update if you aren't on the latest one.

Re update: user bgm music seems louder... Just me?

are you talking about user bgm [menu] or user bgm [race]? as you can adjust these independently from one another..

wow.. wierd thing.. i've just noticed my user bgm goes quieter when i go through the tunnel in cote d'azur. not sure why?

and does anyone else think its shit how you cant change oil between races when your in a championship??

wtf is up with that?? in GT4 you could go back to the home screen and change oil and all that. im now into race 3 in the formula series in b-spec and the car has so far lost 44hp due to no fresh oil. by the time i'm finished the championship it'll be permanently down on power and the overhaul is 500,000cr. this is bullshit

anyone D/L the 1.05 patch and played the drift competitions???? damn, there is one guy whos doing 25k drifting, i cant push past the 19k mark :(

plus all those new addons in the game are so much fun. they have a GTR 493hp race aswell, so easy to gain levels.

i just managed to finish that bloody all stars cup on expert, and all i get was a carbon r34..... :| gayest car out there.

but anyone else been competing in the drift events??

But but but- it even says in the PS3 manual you can update software via USB

I've decided I'd rather d/l it to the comp first and then install it on the PS from a thumb drive, to avoid the transfer stuffing up

Does anyone know the URL where the required upgrade patches can be found?

Correct - the PS3 update you can install via internet or USB... game updates are all via interwebs

+1. i did the first ps3 update via usb (as i didn't have wifi at home at the time), but you can't do game updates via usb, which sucks.

took me a few hours to get it to update last night. kept getting an error halfway through (had it happen probably 10 times). had to alter the router settings, and then it only took 15 mins to download.

those extra races are awesome. i did the GTR one. had to use an r35 gtr to win it. my r34 n1 wasn't fast enough (despite it being lighter than the r35 and having the same power). but you win 1 million dollars (which i wasted a lot of buying a car to use which then turned out to be not allowed to enter the race with) and 100,000 experience points. to win it you need to do 1:29's on your first lap and 1:27's on the next 5 laps and you should get into first 3/4 of the way round the final lap. i was only getting 1:30's and 1:31's on flying laps in my 34. first attempt with the r35 was in the 1:28's

i also did the fiat one and only managed second on it, but will have another go tonight. bought my honda cr-z to use in the second race as well.

    • I ❤️ Matty I would like to thank Matty for going out his way in securing me a OEM NC detachable hard top for the NC Matty, your worth your weight in gold, and I cannot say how much I really appreciate your outstanding help I'll get it colour matched once I pick it up sometime in Dec-Jan 😁
    • We have some genuine Japanese legally decommissioned car number plates now in stock 🙂 Add some legitimately obtained JDM style to your Skyline or other Japanese model, or simply as a garage/man cave decoration! About the 40mm hole: The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport in Japan recognised the popularity of keeping decommissioned plates among car enthusiasts and came up with a method to "destroy" (or render them unusable for street use) while still retaining their collectable/usable value for display etc.  We have 40mm hole covers available to cover the hole nicely with a Sakura motif, which are also available in white in (very!) limited quantities, however they frequently sell out. Please let me know if you're wanting one or more of these and I'll check availability. The Sakura motif covers are more common. https://www.oemsoko.co.jp/products/genuine-decommissioned-japanese-vehicle-number-plate-set-su-7515 https://www.oemsoko.co.jp/products/genuine-decommissioned-japanese-vehicle-number-plate-set https://www.oemsoko.co.jp/products/genuine-japanese-vehicle-number-plate-400mm-hole-cover *Please note that we can't obtain particular number or area name (eg: "Gunma 500 Fu ・86") if requested. All plates are provided as they become available after decommissioning.
    • Ah, fair enough. For the IAT, I'm using a legit GM sensor that was used on the car prior to my current build. I'll get another wideband and IAT ordered and follow up when they show up. Thanks for the help.
    • You shouldn't need to massively fatten up the mixtures for cold conditions. For one thing - 0°C is not that cold. For another, the Haltech will be using the IAT sensor to tell it how dense the air air, and calculate the correct amount of fuelling. Then the cold start enrichment is added as a % on top of that, so it should scale with the main fuelling. You might also doubt the IAT sensor at this time. You're not using one from an RB26 are you? Using a nice Bosch sensor or similar? Happens. Some wideband units take great pleasure in killing their sensors. Put another wideband in the tailpipe and compare. Or just swap the sensor to a brand new one and see.
    • Oh, my misunderstand. When the car was running, it sounded ok, but if I gave it any gas it wanted to die but caught itself afterwards. It's very different from how it was a couple months ago when it was warmer outside. The logs show that the AFRs are better during, what I assume, is warmup enrichment. Because it's cold, and air is more dense, should I work on the enrichment bit?
