played it today, it's shit. given that 90% of the cars are 'standard' cars, it feels like a rehash of GT4, the graphics suck and are NOTHING like any of the promo stuff, the cars feel bloody slow, no clutch button, the damage model is a bloody joke, and the sound STILL sucks. Also hate the daft upgrades (i.e put a titanium exhaust on my GT-R and it still looks stock at the tip and sounds like a vacuum).

Feels like the game was lazily put together, and am glad I didn't buy it. Forza 3 pisses all over it.

Alot of the cars sound too generic, at least when standard. But some of them sound awesome.

The AC Cobra 427ci Chrome Edition with all the engine work done sounds the best so far through my stereo. ~700hp Supercharged v8 in a ~900kg RWD car, can even hear the whine of the supercharger. Fun to drive too

As for the driving dynamics, I think the standard cars are too soft and roll too much, but once you upgrade the suspension and set them up it makes a massive difference and they come good.

And that Top Gear Lotus Elise challenge is bloody frustrating! I got over it, I's get to 5th after the 1st lap and close right in on the last group and one little touch from a computer car even when its them that hit you and you are DQ... I'll get it eventually though...

Overall i'm enjoying it so far, could have been better but still good.

You do realise you can buy a new civic Type R for under 20k...

Guys you MUST get a used 65' 350gt mustang or whatever they're called, and put a full exhaust on it(expensive one) it sounds AMAZING.

Love the game so far but the stupid challenges piss me off.

I've completed all gold B license, all gold A except the mini slalom (impossible..) and the last one where i sorta went meh, i want to race now.

Also, the topgear one with the elise is a joke, they block you and you touch them = DQ....

Finally, the nascar ones are impossible to get gold.. on a controller anyway... (same rule as above, silver at very worst..)

By new, do you mean a new 1995 civic type R from the dealership? I payed 16k for my 1991 mx5, an s13 from nissan was 18k I think etc etc...

My MX5 exhaust sounds very generic and droney, tending to play with the sound on quiet. Oh yeah, guess what happened to the exhaust note when I went through a tunnel? Absolutely nothing at all... what a let down. Can anyone confirm if the premium cars that sound decent change exhayst notes in tunnels atleast?

For $77 i dont think anyone can complain. Im loving this game, if its not for you your probably GAY!!

My username on ps3 is shodaddy. feel free to add me if your after a race ;)

or if u have black ops im on that a bit too

cheers

i found the elise one a little bit frustrating. managed to get silver on it though (was in second place and first place was just in front of me at the last corner). the one i found harder was the licence test where you had to do 2 laps in the old super car around one of the city tracks. going into the first corner if you even just touched the mirror of the lambo you would fail (even fail if you were pretty much all of the way past and it turned into you and hit your rear bumper), but then the next car you overtook you could slam out of the way.

the other thing that shits me is that if you happen to hit the back of the car in front while accelerating the other car slows down or puts the brakes on, so you can simply lift off the accelerator and you won't get a gap between you and the car in front because they are also slowing down. and also if the assists are on (such as in the licence tests), if a car runs up the back of you and pushes the back end out a bit, the computer automatically starts applying the breaks so you can't accelerate out of the slide or pull away.

as for gold licences, i've got a few. i generally get silver first or second attempt (i'm usually very close to a silver first attempt so will have another go to get silver), but if i'm well down on a silver and i don't like the test i will just go onto the next test. i'm more just trying to get my licences at the moment. just got the super licence to go. i have gotten a few gold licences first go.

as for buying cars, i've only bought 1 car, which is what was required to even do the licence tests. since then i've won a few through the licence tests, and i have about $300,000 from doing the special events. the only car i have actually driven that i own was the lambo murcielago that was in the chromeline pack that came with the game.

the karting and nascar special events i have found to be much easier with the joystick that the arrows. karting i have all gold. nascar i have a mix of gold and silver.

liking the game though. it's good to have some new challenges and i like the handling physics of this game more than the previous ones.

oh there are physics in it? must have missed that. Not a fanboy, hate both consoles equally, but this game sure is one polished turd. The graphics aren't even good for f**k's sake!

Even the 'premium' cars are woeful - NFS: Shift was better at modelling car physics, not to mention graphically and aurally.

On the plus side

You can play your own music while racing... Its only a little thing but I think its great

My RX7 with 300hp sounds like its supercharged but, not turboed :S

Dont quite get that, I think the handling is better then GT4 but still not quite right. Will see how it goes once I get a bit further into it

I'm at level 15. i just finished the grand tours race which was a group of different contrast races. some a piece of cake, others hard. there was 1 that was a 2 lap race at monza. i was in 1st place after ther second chicane and won the race by about 5 seconds even after a big lose. then there was a rally time trial where the car has traction control and won't accelerate if the car is the slightest bit sideways and i was ages away from getting a silver so only got a bronze.

Also whoever did the graphics for the lights at night has obviously never driven a car. low beam and highbeam were the same just the patch of light on the road got a bit brighter you couldn't see shit. it lit up the road q car length in front of the car. if cars were like that in real life most of us would've died in car crashes years ago.

You know you are able to turn traction control off in the special events, makes the rallying a shitload easier...

Speaking of traction control, is there any way to turn it off permanently. Its bloody annoying having to turn it off every time you select a new car

I nearly wasn't going to buy it after reading half these damn posts since it came out!

But for $77 I ended up buying it today. Just installing it now.

At least you guys have really lowered my expectations of it (which were incredibly high 1 week ago) so hopefully I will love it now :/

Yeah you can turn off the taction. That focus was farking hard. I managed a 1:55 dead after a few attempts. (gold 1:54 and silver 1:56)

That lambo race at night was a joke lol. I got 2nd and gave up. Yeah, monza one was first after 2nd corner and was 1st after 3rd corner with the muria.

New TV today. Just magic on a full HD LCD through a HDMI cable. Feel like I owe the designers an apology for subjecting their hard work to a shitty old CRT dunger for a few days, lol.

Yeah yeah- The standard cars are nowhere near as good as the premium, but the high-rez ones are very very sexeh indeed :/

To the peeps bagging the simulation aspect of the game; What's in your hash-pipe? I've cracked a low 55sec lap of Tsukuba in a full-house R34 N1, so it seems pretty realistic to me.

$77 well spent.

Yeah that Road to Rome cup with the Lamborghini was way to dark, could hardly see anything. I just turned on the guide line on that one and made it home for gold. I'm having trouble with the Intermediate nascar challenges on the outside lane. So hard to get gold, I think i've had at least 100 attempts.

Played it for about an hour doing the first license and two proper races and I think it is really good.

Obviously the hype for this game was huge and the fact it was delayed for so long made people think it was going to be something out of this world.

Overall I can see a a few months of addiction in the game :/

    • The hot exhaust light will come on not from just the cat being blocked, but it's just a temp sensor, and it's designed to warn you to not do things like park in long grass.   If you've been pushing the motor a bit, it can cause the light to come on.   Second if the cat is rattling, I'd suspect it's not blocked, but instead falling apart inside.   The easiest "fix" until you can get a cat put back in, is to unbolt your one, bash the rest of the insides out, and then bolt it back in.   For a daily driver/street car, I am in agreeance of put a cat in the car. If it were race car I wouldn't care if it were removed.
    • No worries at all 🫡 I think the most satisfying things to make are the little bits that are just impossible to find or they're no longer manufactured. Generally I always try to replace parts with OEM wherever possible. This little project is also great because it'll never see the light of day, but strengthen these brackets so it's not just relying on the little standard screws in the headlight plastic. As soon as I saw the standard brackets and screws I thought, "well I'm not going to install with just the screws, the plastic tabs will just snap off". It's crazy how expensive everything has become yeah. But I suppose that's supply and demand; granted it's a lot easier to get brand new genuine parts these days which is fantastic 😊, I don't have to get totally reamed at the local Nissan dealer ha ha We sure are lucky we have all these manufacturers making parts these days, a few really great Australian companies too like Platinum Racing Products and Fit Mint Automotive, what a time to be alive ❤️ . I've got my eye on the RB26 head by PRP as mine has a very fine hairline crack, so that'll need to be addressed some time in the future. If you have any requests or odd things to make feel free to let me know and I can have a crack at making replacement parts ✌️
    • Thanks for sharing this, and BTW if your headlights are in good condition they are worth thousands....you might want to consider replacing them with brand new LED ones like this (https://www.nengun.com/78works/full-led-headlights-r32-skyline) and making enough profit to buy a house in Sydney
    • I'm not sure what sort of shops are nearby, but I'd expect any reasonable exhaust shop could put a cat in it that will not restrict the power that engine makes. Otherwise, if you want to remove it, short lengths that replace the cat are readily available online, search for "de-cat pipes" or "test pipes"
    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all!
