PM-R33
bumping into cars sounds like hitting a wheely bin on the roadside. Bahahahaha so true! We should make a list: "The top 20 most annoying things about GT5" But nah it's a fun game. I've been playing it heaps of the other two days. Fuck it's a car game on PS3; it's good enough for me. mad082
yeah i agree with the prize car stuff and the paint stuff. as for the NASCAR challenges, i've only done the beginner and intermediate challenges and i have a mix of gold and silver. on the intermediate one i have 2 of each. i found that you have to use the stick rather than the d-pad. you don't do the full/straight/full/straight type turning like you do with the controller, you just have to find the point where you can just hld the stick at the one angle and don't have to really make any adjustments. the 2 cornering challenges with the cones where you have to take either the inside line or outside that i got golds on (was 1 on each track, both indy and daytona) i got on my first successful attempt (had a few attempts where i hit the cones before passing). i actually found the amg driving school stuff relatively easy to get silver (only done beginner and intermediate in it as well), which is good, cause i hate that track, LOL. usually take is sort of easy and still get silver with 3 or 4 seconds to spare. i can usually even get away with a few minor off's and still get a silver. not going to bother trying to get golds as i just CBF'd, lol. as for gt5 not being something to blow forza 3 away, i think you also have to remember that there are limitations in the console itself that would mean that they couldn't make something too spectacular, or at least not without significantly increasing loading times. i do agree that things like the the shadows are somewhat of a major flaw in the graphics. a lot of people are complaining about the lack of option to turn off the HUD (this possibly comes from the plasma screen owners worrying about burn in). but polyphony have said that they will be releasing updates and patches along the way, so i think we can expect to see a few things change over time. bozodos
so that excuses the fact that 90% of the game is GT4 with slightly better graphics? lol fanboys. My mates and I have tried to play this with an open mind, but have all come to the same conclusion. Maybe if they'd used say a 10th of the cars and actually tried to make it something better than Forza it would be acceptable. But for a game that's been like 5 years or so in development it's just laziness or arrogance, I'm not sure. The only thing I did like was that the GT-R's seemed to handle more realistically than the dramatic understeer they all had in Forza. Spurdo
all in all i think its pretty awesome. the worst parts of the game seem to only be the annoying irrelevant stuff that has no bearing on the actual simulation experience itself. and hey maybe if we're lucky they'll fix the annoying parts soon enough with an online update. the new b-spec is sweet. Messiah
anyone notice that the recommended line is way to conservative?? i follow its recommendation and its silver at best... no chance of gold.... Come in a little hotter, break later or pick a slightly different apex.... GOLD!! i need a wheel tho.... and on that subject... i know what wheel to get... but i dont have room for a big ass nifty cockpit... does anyone have a recommendation for something that will fit in the lounge room and can be stored away easily? Snowman
This could be what you are looking for - http://www.wheelstandpro.com.au/index.html None in stock from there though currently. I'm actually using a Playseat which pulls apart nicely as well but is fairly bulky when assembled. But have to say now after playing with it set-up and with a wheel its 11ty x's better than with the controller. NickR33
hahaha race car drivers in training, nice work Snowy I've played it a few hours now and I like it... I have a few gripes, mainly to do with some of the car sounds (some are spot on and some are way off)... the physics seems pretty spot on I bought the R33 GTR and in cockpit view its kinda spooky, looks and feels EXACTLY like my car... they really nailed the way it drives... the sound is a bit off though has anyone noticed that the rearview mirror doesn't show the smoke when you exit a corner a bit sideways? only when you hit the button to look behind do you realise you overcooked the corner exit a bit!... just a weird omission I reckon and lol about the wheelie bin comment... so true Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/48/#findComment-5570494 Share on other sites
Beer Baron
You do realise you can buy a new civic Type R for under 20k...Guys you MUST get a used 65' 350gt mustang or whatever they're called, and put a full exhaust on it(expensive one) it sounds AMAZING. Love the game so far but the stupid challenges piss me off. I've completed all gold B license, all gold A except the mini slalom (impossible..) and the last one where i sorta went meh, i want to race now. Also, the topgear one with the elise is a joke, they block you and you touch them = DQ.... Finally, the nascar ones are impossible to get gold.. on a controller anyway... (same rule as above, silver at very worst..) agreed. I bought the civic type R brand new as my first car and if anything it's miles too fast in sunday cup! i did a few challenges first so I had a few bucks and bought the cheapest mods like the $500 cat, the $600 airfilter and the $600 flywheel and the $1000 ecu and even that got me to nearly 200hp. car weighs 1050kg and handles beautifully in stock form with a total of about $2500 spent on mods. enjoying the game more now after a bit of online play. sadly as always there are wankers who just want to punt people off etc but on the most part it's good fun racing. Spurdo
has anyone noticed that the rearview mirror doesn't show the smoke when you exit a corner a bit sideways? only when you hit the button to look behind do you realise you overcooked the corner exit a bit!... just a weird omission I reckon yea they obviously dedicated few system resources to rendering what shows up in the mirror, if you look at the white line on the edge of the track in the mirror when coming out of a corner you might notice that its usually not even rounded off, its just straight lines connected to straight lines, looks terrible. does anyone else seem to get a slightly decreased framerate when watching b-spec or a replay when there are several cars all bunched together and they're in close proximity to the camera as they go flying past, it looks like the system cant quite keep up the framerate.. but then i've had to repair my ps3 twice now and that could have taken its toll on things. all these gripes people have with it are only nit-picking issues though. i mean how often does a game developer get everything perfect first time. they got the vital things basically spot on imo. dark-knight
Can I add the crowd to the list of annoying things? I know it's a relatively unimportant aspect of the game, but I thought that in this day in age they could produce spectators that weren't all 2D identical twins! I feel likes i'm playing sega rally in the arcade! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/48/#findComment-5570544 Share on other sites
Darmanin10
i think that they decided on making some things really good like the driving, some of the sounds, the premium cars graphics and tracks etc, as well as a massive selection of cars but seemed to ignore things like loading times, the crowd lol (but then again iv never played a game with good crowd), the crashing and even some of the standard cars which are shit. also braindead AI some of the races are really easy but then theres ones like the Grand tour with the lambo street race at night. WTF, i could only manage 3rd. Already got 900hp R35 by level 15. Also my brother is only on level 15 but he already has a fully worked bugatti, top speed 436KM haha all in all fun game which iv been hooked to, and will keep me ammused for months we should also get an SAU lobby or something going Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/274780-gt5-is-ready/page/48/#findComment-5570583 Share on other sites

They are currently about $100 but I have seen them at dick smith in the past as cheap as $50! if you must have pedals then you may as well go all out and get the G27 and something like this: http://www.fanatec.de/html/index.php?id=220〈=en very clever design, easy to use and stores nicely. Dean_HR31
Ok I need to seriously vent here. My brain is being pan fried reading all these posts about the graphics - who gives a cr*p??? I still haven't played the game and am dying to find out what improvements have been made to the sh*t house engnie sound & handling physics but all I am reading is stuff about shadows, reflection, crowd graphics etc...? lol who gives a flying duck about this? I am going to play this at a mates house tonight because there is no way im wasting my money if its like the previous versions. Once I play it tonight, I will write up a thorough post about what I think so that those people who care about the important stuff can have a read before they waste their money. Beer Baron
I have to say there are some annoying things but my god the driving has improved. cars actually power oversteer now without having to induce crazy set-up options. previously power on understeer was the default action for any RWD car no matter how powerful. either that or violent snap oversteer which was un-saveable no matter how quick you were with the opposite lock. now the cars rear end actually moves around fairly progressively and can be controlled with some opposite lock and throttle application nicely. I can create an SAU lounge and set it to open ownership so anyone can take over as needed. would be nice. i'm beerbaron32 anyone who wants to add me please do. Psymon
Completely agree with Beer Baron about the power oversteer situation. I find the driving in this version much more enjoyable than in previous versions. I had an absolute blast doing the beginner AMG challenges around the Nurburgring in the old gullwing. Did anyone else get really frustrated by the Top Gear Kombi challenge? syfon
Sorry, but i brought a PS3 and now have GT5, it's fun to play etc, but i am honestly not that impressed with it. Like I said, i enjoy playing it and bla bla bla, but im really not that impressed with the graphics. (and yes im playing it on a 1080p Full HD TV). Everyone really hypes up Gran Turismo to be something that it just isn't! I really think the physics, handling, tyre wear, racing dynamics, are better in Live For Speed..... Beer Baron
kombi challenger sure did piss me off. can get to 10th by hammerhead but if you tap someone then then just keep bumping into you until you DQ, or they push you into a cone and of course....DQ. it's annoying as fark. and they are so bloody slow. I also have a slight malfunction with my wheel. every now and then when I'm driving along with the throttle pinned it malfunctions and lifts throttle momentarily. In something as slow as the kombi it's enough that I loose enough momentum as to make the challenge nearly impossible if it happens. They are currently about $100 but I have seen them at dick smith in the past as cheap as $50! I have one of these wireless wheels and got it for $50 from dick smiths a couple of months ago. It's really easy to use and makes the game so much easier and realistic then the controller. It reacts great to bumps and oversteer etc. A good option for people with no space. I would love a full blown seat with wheels and pedals, but in the meantime thia is a great go between. Regarding GT5 though. It's the latest version of the GT series. That's it. They have taken GT4 and added 'premium' cars and some new challenges like go karts, nascar etc and an extensive photo mode. Tweaked the graphics and released it. Patches may fix some things along the way but I think it's really a natural evolution of the series. It feels like the PS3 may be maxed out with what it can do though. I'm not a hard core gamer or anything like that. I play games sometimes to unwind and this game will allow me to do that.
