;) im *****ing sick to death of getting the run around from insurers i just want insurance thats not botchy no1 insures people under 21 with a turbo been 18 this is a bit of a probem 4 me does ne1 in these forums have insurance on a 32gtst that is under 21 and please tell me who is insuring u cause im desperate for insurance and gettn ####d of that evry time i get a quote they say sorry we cant help u , when they're insuring these dick heads who go through a crapadore a month :)

please excuse the spelling i left skool to early

Just Cars is who I was going to recommend.

They are underwritten by AAMI and are their "higher risk" mob.

When I rang AAMI for insurance they gave me the number for Just Cars, as my driving history is, well, let's call it checkered.

It won't be cheap though, so don't expect that.

I would suggest Just Cars also, or Famous.. they are pretty much your only options.

Just Cars will definately cover you, but like Chops said expect a very large premium. Also expect to pay a massive excess if you ever have a claim, they have so many excess's with their cover it is not funny.

Basically there is no cheap option, regardless of age. To put it in perspective I am paying $1330 for a 25yo Rating 1 thru Just Cars, my car is an R33 series II.

A mate of mine has an R33 thru famous and is paying about 3k.. he is 23 with a rating 4.

That is pretty much it in a nutshell, and things are not likely to change insurance wise any time soon... its prob going to get worse, more and more are getting stolen and torched, and more and more and getting written off by young drivers... it is the unfortunate truth.

Plus the choice is limited to who you can go through, it is an unfortunate fact the Australia was never brought up with turbo powered cars like Japan (over there is is just normal and has been for donky's years), so the thinking of the insurance companies is very much in the N/A market and the word "Turbo" sends them running.

Good Luck,

Rob.

I'm 21 and have never had insurance under my name and got mine thru Famous.... It was $3300 Full Comp.

My mate is 19 with a M-Spec 33 and he is also thru Famous payin approx the same. But he had a Previous Insureance Record (no accidents or n e thing)

In My opinion Just Cars is a rip off and some of their initial quotes they gave me were around $1000 a year more than Famous so go famous in my opinion dude

DO NOT TRY JUST CARS!!!

Read all the details of your policy first. Personally forget what other people are driving and save till you are 25 then buy a good car when you are rating one and you can afford it. I am not saying i have been bent over by just cars in the last few week I am just saying BE CAREFULL insurance companies are quick to take your money but if anything happens you will be waiting a while if at all for a pay out

i couldnt' agree with mattr more .. so i'll just keep my 2k a year and be on 3rd party ... so if u have an accident its 2k + 2.5k on premiums ... if ur car gets stolen its 2k + 2.5k+ ... thats almost 5k u pay insurance company if u have a bad accident ... i just figure that u drive carefully .. dont' do nothing stupid ... concentrate at all times while driving which means stay on one lane and not weave in traffic .. and drive at a distance from the person in front and the chances of u having an accident is lowered (but still a chance so touch wood) .. i'll keep that 5k and save it till when u do have an accident ... 3 years and u've paid the company $4k-$7k .. for shitty service and dodgy policies?? well thats just my experience .. lets just hope i dont' have any more accidents .. touch wood :)

Common theme these insurance threads... but very good to hear eveyone's experiences.

Personally I haven't had insurance through any of these companies yet as im still waiting to get a car (shuddup rob) but I have had good quotes from Just Cars. I haven't tried any of the others but will do when seriously looking for insurance.

I am 24 on rating 1 so its helps my cause, but you 18 year olds on rating 6 driving turbo cars should stop complaining - if i was an insurance company, i wouldn't insure you either... bugger all experience AND in a powerful car means bad news. If you want these cars at that age then you just have to pay the price... or not pay it at all at your risk.

I really don't know what effects the cost the most but someone from just cars said that bodykits and lowering are the biggest factors (apart from age). The type of the car hasn't really had THAT much difference for me.

Hippy is correct, its not necessarily the premium that kills you, its the excess if you make a claim. Quite rude really.

On their online quotes you often see "Additional Excess" of, for example on a GTR, $1000. No reason for it, just an additional excess. What's up with that?!

Not to mention the normal excess, age excess, theft excess plus if you have nice wheels and they are involved in the claim there is another excess for them..... its rediculous.

BUT... is your car worth not insuring. I know its alot to pay for insurance but would you rather pay 4-7k over a couple of years or have to fork out another 20-25k if you total it or it gets stolen?

Bit of a hard decision, but personally I'll take insurance any day. Of course I'm only willing to pay a certain amount so if its gonna cost too much to insure, i'll probably look for something else.

my 2c.

:D

TOTALLY agree with hippy, and Mattr on this one. Mate had full comp on his car, then when someone smashed into him, his "agreed value" for 20k suddenly turned out to be only 16k!! They still wanted the policy to be payed for the rest of the 12 months...FKUN Insurance gimmes the shizzt.

Oh, Just car said to me if my car gets stollen, I only get a 4k payout for the 16k policy!!!!

GFXman is right - Just Cars (and probably all the others too!!) have all of these "additional excesses" on top of your base excess.

For example, my excess is $600, plus $400 "age excess" because I'm under 25, plus a $600 "import excess" for who knows what reason. Plus theres a $1,000 "theft excess". I'm happy to pay the $1,600 worth of excesses as long as my car is fixed or I'm paid out my agreed value in case of an accident.

The only problem I have with my policy is that if my wheels get stolen for example, they are covered for $2,000 - by the time I pay all of the excesses (minus the age excess) I could have practically bought another set of wheels... :D

I will be quiet Joolz :D .. na I think it is good you are taking time and deciding wisely.

Bl4cK32

How did they justify the 16k policy but you only get 4k if u claim?, that does not make sense.. if u have an "agreed value" of 16k on your policy by law they must pay it (eg your policy is a legal document).. if they tried to put that on you you would win in court.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically the only way we will ever get fair insurance is if all the insurance companies decide to insure imports as they would Aussie delivered car rather than putting the "import" stamp them.

In time as parts become more and more available it may happen who knows, i would not hold my breath though.

The other way is to wait until you are over 25 which opens you up to a bigger choice (but not that big) of companies like Unique, Torque, Shannons etc... but still expect to pay more than u would for an Aussie delivered car.

They said "if you have fire and theft, the maximum payout for it is 4k". This i dont understand. Whats the point of having fire and theft if u only get 4k?

A mate had an agreed value for 20K. They said minus the policy payments for the next 12 months, his added extras stereo, roll bar and nudge bar (its a ute) were not "extras". They were listed as extras, but they refused to pay on these items, and he was not allowed to salvage them. He got a payout for 16k. Not the 20k which was stated on the poilcy.

Yep don't understand that at all, they must have some way of getting away with it because it's only 3rd party.

As for your mate i understand they would minus the remaining policy payments (all insurance companies do this). But i dont understand how they could shonk him on his extra's saying they were not extra's thus reducing the "agreed" value. That is plain bullshit.

Agreed Value is agreed value and i would have taken them to the cleaners over that, if u tell them the mod's (and extra's) at the time of taking out the policy and they give u an agreed value based on this , then how can they later at the time of claim then go "well these are not extra's". On the policy it clearly shows the agreed value and lists your mods & "extra's". Both the policy holder and the insurance company have agreed to this and it is in writing. If you take that to court you will win. They would have to provide a legitiment reason for why they are not classed as extra's. If they are factory standard then no they are not, if they are factory options yes they are, and if they are aftermarket then without a doubt they certainly are extra's.

I could ramble on forever here but you get the picture.

They will screw anyone hoping the don't know any better and will accept it.

I should have clarified - my recommendation of Just Cars was based on a company that would insure an 18yo in a turbo import, NOT of a company that would necessarily provide good insurance.

I have never had insurance through them, but they were one of only a small number of companies that would touch a driver with my history. (Fortunately now I'm over 25 and in 6 months I am rating 1 so I will have escaped the punishment for a mis-spent youth!)

Agreed value is defanatly not agreed value with just cars, they decided to change to policy half way through with out notifying me about it. They have a clause that they can change the policy and it is up to you to keep an eye on how much the agreed value is month by month by ringing them

Mattr : Isnt that illegal that they did that?

Also guys in the end it comes down to this. Insurance companies are out there to make alot of money, and they do. They dont give a fu ck about us, so theres no point wingin about it. Just try make the best out of a bad situation.

I fork out 2700 a year for full comp plus 1000 excess if sometin happened. its the price u have to pay for a hipo car which other wankers that cant drive crash all the time...

I pay $320 a year for my insurance, its not comprehensive, what a waste of money that'd be on a car that doesn't hav a good retail anymore.

If i crash it, I'll salvage what I can, thats the way it goes if its my fault, if not, bonus, money or repaired.

Im not even gonna both slappn on a turbs or something thats gonna make my insurance go through the roof, its just not worth it at my age, 2nd year apprentice, 3k / year insurance fees, thats like 3 months worth of wage down the drain to pay for the car!

I think I'll keep saving.

Matt how'd you go with just cars? Things looking okish or?

    • Yep, yeah would need to do the flywheel although the 6 bolt NA clutch can handle a 20de if just wants to replace the stocker.
    • No it's fine. Heat sleeve is a thing. With oil running through it it is unlikely. Engine off heat soak can be a thing though. There is no way that you have a leak through the hose. That has pressure behind it and any small hole will turn into a large one in very short order. It is so much more likely to be leaking from the connection.
    • Really? That's piss weak. I didn't know they hobbled the shitboxen that badly. OK. So probs need to buy a flywheel too. But that's not too bad.
    • Hi all. I already posted some newbie-ish questions here and there but this will be my first "big" post. Last summer I went and fulfilled a kind of childhood wish, because I just thought I needed this experience in my life no matter what. The car I bought is a mildly modded 1995 BCNR33 Vspec. It was repainted to a metallic orange color all around and it had all windows reseated. Not so well done black respray in the trunk and a metallic black in the engine bay. From outside it looks very nice except for a minor paint error on the roof and the rear spats needing new adhesive tape. The inside is pretty clean and no broken plastics, missing or faded buttons. Even the adjustable mirrors and trunk antenna work like a charm. Despite a moderately long list of issues I don't (yet) regret buying this car. Most mechanical problems are just due to age, like worn rubbers here and there. The underside sadly has lots of corrosion, especially to the back. It looks like it either has been driven in the winter for a while or it lived near the saltwater in Japan, the rust is nothing terrible but it'll require to be looked after. Mostly panel gaps and all the mounted components underneath are a bit crusty, but I don't think anywhere has progressed so badly that there's going to be holes. Front right jacking rail is crushed and needs some care so it doesn't develop into a rust crater at some point. Worst part is definitely the strut towers. I thought they looked fine but after taking off the strut bar I noticed that it actually started bulging up on the passenger side. Probably would have passed on the car or negotiated down by some thousand Euros more if I had noticed this before buying, but here we are. Trunk area also has signs that there was a water leak to the interior once but nothing too crazy, I guess lots of Skylines had this at some point. As for the list of (known) issues, I'll try to make this compact. I hope the coloring is self explanatory. Mechanical: -Various busted or soon-to-be busted rubber bushings and ball joints. Will replace ball joints with OEM or better and bushings with polyurethane where possible. -Shaking steering wheel at above 80kph -downshift from 5th to 4th is a bit crunchy unless I rev-match, might just try to renew the shifter assembly, but it's not a priority issue -tailshaft centre bearing could use a replacement, is it worth going 1-piece tailshaft as it doesn't look too fresh all around? Chassis: -underbody corrosion on many spots and in hollow spaces, needs to be treated -corrosion on many bolts, hoses, lines, suspension components, subframes, will be treated when replacing of the bushings is needed as time goes on -strut tower top panels and some of the surrounding panels are rusty, so needs fixing. Will look into doing this with a buddy in the winter, otherwise bite the bullet and pay a professional -driver side door is misaligned to the body and needs to go a slight bit more inwards -both door windows are misaligned and have an airgap where the window meets the door at the B pillar -The Aerocatch latches for the bonnet have locks but no keys, need new keys. -driver side door window is kind of gritty and could use a polish -damaged jacking rails and front frame rails, from people lifting the car the wrong way, might have this fixed by a bodyshop Electrical: -Nismo tachometer is just bouncing and displaying nonsense, supposedly worked fine when the stock ECU was still in the car -An old Greddy boost controller sits on the dash which will be removed as it servers no purpose anymore. -a led segment rpm gauge is on the steering column, will probably also be (re-)moved once the Nismo tacho is working correctly -there was an attempt to make the sound system better by the previous owner but it was just inducing noise all the time, ripped out the amp and filters in the back, no music for now -trunk antenna goes up as long as the radio is on regardless of the mode, I want it to only rise if I choose Radio specifically or per switch -3rd brake light is a bit dimmer than the taillights but everything was converted to LEDs so mabye now it just seems dimmer? -reverse light flickers, have to test if that behavior changes when I fiddle with the gear stick. Hope I can get around changing the switch. -Left side taillight, blinker section has minor water intake and is humid after washing. Other side has a hole in it, probably for that exact reason. I'll probably reseal them entirely and plug the holes. Engine: -minor coolant drips on one or the other hose -rear turbo leaks oil onto the exhaust making the car essentially undriveable due to fire hazard -Oil filter relocation kit has an oil drip at the Dash lines, will probably make a new connection there and tighten real good and pray -throttle body assembly is slightly stuck for the first throttle pedal input after sitting for a while I'm always open to suggestions and advice from more experienced people, I'm sure half of this list is easily dealt with and just requires some time and effort to sort out properly. Once I have some proper pictures of the car I will post some in this thread, I just have to remember to take some more once I get the chance to. Will post updates when I have news on anything, I want to try to keep this thread as kind of a logbook as well. Ultimately my goal for this car is to just enjoy it. An engine rebuild is probably going to happen sometime as well, because it is old after all. It will never be fully new again, I am just not that rich. But I want it to look good, work well and not rot away while I drive it. I'm probably gonna spend a lot of money on this journey, hopefully not an unreasonable amount.
    • Hi all. So one of my major issues at the moment is my rear turbo leaking oil on the exhaust (and the general area). I presumed it was the rock hard super old drain hose, which it was not. So now I am in the midst of removing the rear turbo to get access to the banjo bolt that goes into the turbo oil feed. As one of the previous owners accidentally? tore off the OEM oil feed hardline that reaches behind the turbo, they ran braided lines directly to the turbo, presumably PTFE. Now, regardless if the line has rubber or teflon inside, is it just generally a bad idea to do this? I imagine these lines get quite hot being between the engine, turbo core and exhaust manifold. I suppose it's not too far fetched to think the line may even have melted. I'd love to hear your opinions on this as as the replacement OEM hardline piece is 130 per unit. And cutting open the currently mounted line to see inside will mean I just have to get a replacement either way. So far I am hoping maybe the bolt just loosened or (god forbid) they forgot one of the crush washers.
