R33 Engine Noises

Hello everybody, I have a pretty loud tacking noise coming from the top of my motor, it sounds a bit like a tacky lifter but im not sure, i got told it might be pistons aswell, just wanted to know if anybody has any ideas or if they have had the same problem... I should also mention I havnt had a oil filter change in about 3yrs... I no its really bad for my car and not sure if that could be a reason its so rattely? I smelt the oil today on the lid and it smelt bad, i am getting a oil filter change this week. I'm still gettin good oil pressure and it idels well and drives well, it just passed pink slip with no worries so im guessing its something not major mechanically wrong or he would have said something. I just got my licence back after a 6mth suspension so it has been sitting for a few mths without being driven. I think i am up for a new motor she sounds so sick, Thanks for taking the time to read this
