hooning is not an issue... hooning is not even a real word. i would maybe consider it an issue if like more than 2 people died from street racing this year, but they didn't.

3 people alone died during the wrx vs skyline crash on magill road. weren't you paying attention?

i thought one died... even in the news article last week about guy going to court they said only one died. did the other 2 die very recently in hospital?

edit: there you go ben: http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0...87-2682,00.html only one died

either way, there's no proof other 60-something accidents were hooning, innatention and fatigue were always problem... and at the end of the day inexperience, but hooning has nothing to do with this... doens't justify such drastic measures... people are just trying to get people's votes, that's what's happening, nobody gives shit about people dying

Not sure, I just remember reading that it was a 3 fatality crash

Even if they didnt, thats one there and another one in the wrx vs wrx crash with a corolla (or whatever it was), then you have the kid in the wrx last year who spun his car into a stobie pole and killed his mate

thats 3 right there, minimum, not to mention 5 written off cars in those 3 episodes, 3 of which were torn in half... i tried to karate chop a sigma once, i can tell you it takes more than chuck norris to get one of them to split in two

And there was that VK/VL Commodore that crashed up in the hills South somewhere... technically they werent "HOONING" but were just speeding off as a cop car tried to pull them over, repeat offenders with stolen goods in the boot, but media talks about it as though they were young males hooning off etc.

for such drastic measures to be undertaken by government the issue has to be way more widespread. especially if it can affect many innocent people, ie if car's owned by parents or someone else, or since cops have discretion to crush any car they want pretty much any import owner that got pulled over by a cop who has bad day...

no doubt when those laws come, cops defecting my car will threaten me with crushing it.... even now they are threatening me they're going to take my license just for defecting my car even tho they cant. And since they are going to have discretion to do so all they have to do is make up a little story and then at court it's my word against theirs...

I don't want SA to become a police state either, but when there are tools out there giving them reasons to introduce punishment like this, what else can ya do? These fools are giving them a reason to consider it.

If the offenders are not learning their lesson, of course the punishment will increase in severity until the lesson sinks into their thick skulls. Its working already, just talking about it. The fear is being put into you. Maybe some drivers need to learn was fear is again.

:D

your giving up freedom for security which does lead to a police state.

i bet if your bike was impounded and crushed your view would be very different specially if you weren't doing anything wrong!

all it takes is one cop to say your were 'hooning' and it will snowball from there.

'hooning' dates back long before gen Y's been here!

100% correct

I cant see why people are so against this car crushing idea. If your not a hoon you have nothing to worry about :rofl2:

again, as above!

cops can send you to regency for no reason why cant they impound you for no reason.

loud music is considered hooning too. would you like your car being crushed because someone 'thought' your music was too loud?

i dont want to sound like im having a go, it's not like that!

i just dont want every person to start handing over their rights all because of the media BS and the older people's view on cars that are faster then a push bike!

all these resources, all this bs, all this hype, just for something that creates less that 1% of the road toll.

this is completely right!

i havent been on the road nearly as long as some people (im only 21) but what small time i have been driving i've found that all people no matter the age suck at driving!

people who learnt to drive many years ago who learnt from their parents who learnt from their parents, parents would have picked up bad habits.

crushing car, impounding cars and defecting. all revenue and all to keep the mass amount of voters happy. just think about it.

for such drastic measures to be undertaken by government the issue has to be way more widespread. especially if it can affect many innocent people, ie if car's owned by parents or someone else, or since cops have discretion to crush any car they want pretty much any import owner that got pulled over by a cop who has bad day...

well, I believe in the justice system. for the most part it works, as the burden of proof lies with the accusers (police) rather than defendants (you)

and if the car is owned by someone else or owned by a credit agency, then there is no legal basis (unless the state govt is going to pay the value of the car to the owner - which will never happen)

Put simply, the only cars I can think will get crushed are the $500-$1000 shitboxes - and I won't shed any tears over that

-D

what happend to them 'H' (hoon) plates the media was saying was gonna come in? or all the other things?

it aint gonna stop noone, cops cant patrol every road in sa at the same time. haha

and if you have disrespect for your $15++ car, then thats your fault.

MY opinion,

haha, people are just going to stick superchargers in ford lasers, or turbo holden barinas,

a high performance car isnt one with a body kit, big rims, and lowered, its one with a good engine,

and these days, the new fords, holdens, toyotas are coming out with abit of power, like the toyota aurion, 200 rwkw??

my opinion.

Lets go for a hoon.

You drive my car, Ill drive yours.

There are SO many things to consider. People saying 'come on, enough is enough. lets do it now etc etc. stop wasting time' have no brain activity IMO

Are you for real? Hooning is an issue. What rock have you been hiding under? How long you been driving Ryhs? Not long enough to know any better obviously. It is becoming an increasing problem. Its not just the recorded deaths ... its also the other casualties/injuries that don't hit the media. And the stories that are getting air time on the news are getting more and more horrific. You hear about car crashes in the country where the cars are sometimes torn in half. Now we've got cars being ripped into pieces in the city!!! ... as a result of drag racing!!! Wake up boy.

Oh, and the police are killing people with tazers now? Is that a proven "epidemic" you want to bring to our attention? :rofl2:

Nice of you to craft your argument to have no substance and mean absolutely nothing yet again. :D Get some facts before belting your keyboard. Love how you craft your agrument that the media is blowing the swine flu out of proportion ... yet you'll use the same media to whinge about a "black kid" in a street brawl. Stay on topic.

Don't want your car crushed ... don't hoon.

Don't like this state ... get out.

Some points to think about ^

However. Is the problem larger in your eyes ? Or the media eye ?

Would a car crash be front page news a couple years ago ?

Any Nissan skyline that crashes hits the papers. A Nissan skyline hit a pole a few weeks ago . No one hurt and it was in the paper only a few pages in. Honestly that's a joke.

Is there anything else going on in the world ?

Honestly. There have been horrific car crashes. I doubt they are getting worse myself. However the gory and plain painfull crashes will sell papers. They will be reported. A few years back alot of horrific crashes wouldn't have been reported.

I'm not defending any hoon driving. I dont do it myself. I just want people to see the other side of the media and make up their own mind. Are there other problems we should be spending money on ? wasting time on >?

Sure harsher penalties etc etc but dont brand people so easily.

I would rather the gov. introduce rules without all the human society having ill informed guesses and stabs at each other.

Lol the tazers thing I have no idea about.

*sigh* you are really missing alot of bain cells champ.

ok buddy, define "hooning" for me please? is it drink driving? is it speeding? is it doing a burnout? or is it anything that is not percieved as the "status-quo" on the road?

next point, im sorry idiot, but "hooning" has been going on for alot longer than my life time, everyones parents could say theyve done stupid speeds, burnouts and drunk driven atleast once! the 70/80's where full of shocking road behaviour, and yes, cars torn in half ;)

and yes police have killed a man with a tazer, and now all police are soon set to have tazers, you dont see this as a problem? wake up dickhead!

craft my argument? i made more sense and spoke more fact that you ever have, and your possibly the biggest keyboard warrior to grace the net. you call anyone who makes a point different from yours a "warrior" yet your the big man talkin bout knockin chicks over and being a tuff motrcycle rider.... biiiiig mannn

dude, read what you wrote..... i stated fact, that black kid DID get a 4 month suspended sentace. no hype no bullshit and there IS video evidence of what he did so wtf are you really on about?

f**kin clue-less once again rueben

The discretion part is bullshit alright and imo many valid points have been made in this thread, but I don't think crushing is the answer nor do I think a drag strip or driver training will solve the issue either.

Hoon drivers will always be a part of society so long as there are cars/bikes on the road. Whether these cars/bikes are high powered imports or V8's doesn't make squat of a difference. The whole issue is also dependent on how you define 'hoon' and this is where we come back to the biggest problem, that being the police having the discretion to decide or define it for themselves.

The answer in my opinion is harsher penalties and maybe they need to make scapegoats of a few so that like Ruby mentioned it sinks into their thick skulls by fear.

whether I agree with any of the above or not is besides the point but you all seem to have a reasonable grip on reality

on the other hand......

wtf? i swear you must be one of the old whingers that writes in to local rag.....

"hooning" IS NOT AN ISSUE!!! once people get that through there head we can move on. just because a few twats a year in high performance cars stack it doesnt mean there is an epidemic. its like the bloody swine flu issue, over 3000 people per year die from standard influenza, and only 100 or so have died to date from this "pig flu"..... its all media hype.

i think the police should be more worried about themselves (killing people with tasers), and the government should be more concerned with there own laws (that black kid who stabbed someone, then chased them down again with a studded belt around there fist only got a 4 month suspensed f**king sentance! ive got mates who have got in bar brawls and because they where born here get 6 months hard time).

this state is f**ked.

seriously Rhys, your getting worse mate.....how do you come up with this crap!!

Leave the comic books alone bud.

and under the current economic status of this country, me thinks that there are no funds for the purchase of hoon's vehicles.

If they did pass such a legislation, there would have to be a law across the land without discrimination, ie. if they purchase a $1000 shitbox and crush it then they have to be prepared to purchse an R35 and do the same thing......hence where the real problems begin and why this whole thread (apart from some healthy discussion) is really pointless..........but carry on regardless. :D

Good point Craig, but I think you'll find that as little as 20 years ago, no teenager drove a high powered turbo car and as such could out drive an EH Holden or similar.

Today we have teens driving cars that they clearly can't handle even 1/2 of its power which is why the heat has been turned up so much on youth driving and consequently branded it with the name Hoon. Hoons have been around since James Dean pranged the Porsche but they were known as Rebels in those days.....no difference, its just a name that peeps are hung up about.

*sigh* you are really missing alot of bain cells champ.

Pull your head in Rhys and people will take you alot more seriously....you could've said all that without resorting to name calling.

Everyone else on here seems to be able to contain themselves......suggest you do the same or argue elsewhere please.

I'll somehow try and manage to sum it up in one little statement. I cant really , there are a lot of loose ends/ but Ill try

You are part of society. Make up your own mind.

Don't become amorphous in your thinking habits and go with the trend and flavour of the month.

I agree Sled. The high powered cars are abit of a worry in the wrong hands. Ive never argued that point. Would like to see some sort of legislation regarding cars being driven the already caught idiots. .

I am also very aware that there are good kids out there too. Kids that want a nice car without the stigma attached. Why should Joe down the road miss out because of only a couple people crashing and causing all hell ?

Harsher penalties yes. Car crushing ? Really think about the big picture. Think about all the new ways people will avoid this. Think about the banks that actually own the cars in some cases. Think of the law suites.

Kinda of target regarding the actual thread but thought id add something.

can't say I disagree with any of that Craig
