You're seeing things too much in black and white. I ain't giving up any freedom ... because I won't be caught hooning ... I won't run from cops ... I won't put my life or others at risk ... I won't be a dickhead like the others who these laws are aimed at. I have nothing to worry about. I won't be doing anything wrong, and I won't have any of the toys crushed :(

Hands up those who have lost close ones as a result of hoons! Well my hand goes up three fold. I support these kind of laws, when used correctly and unabused. I might still have some good friends alive today if these laws were in effect.

Listening to the young and stupid (Rhys) whinge about violation of rights this, police state that, gets on my nerves when it is plainly obvious something needs to be done. If you won't lift your right foot off that pedal, the cops will do it for you. Use your brains.

And you talk about loss of freedom. Hoons have already traded their freedom for paranoia.

how is it black and white? i and many others have given plenty of different views and different directions in the way that the government can go about this.

you say you have nothing to worry about because you wont be cought hooning. with some of the things i've seen you write like, 'carving up traffic' 'going for a spirited hills ride' etc all relating to you on your bike. i can understand that you can choose your time and place but please dont preach model citizen to everyone while you hoon around on your bike.

clearly, people need to be more education about driving before even being able to set foot on public roads. so noone is saying that nothing needs to be done. i see alot of middle aged drivers who are worse then alot of P platers.

if these rules where around years ago, i dont think the people who took the life of your mates would have changed their mind on what they did. clearly, they knew they could injure someone with their hooning as you put it and they did something worse then getting their car crushed and have to live with the fact that they took a life.

also, what you need to do is LISTEN to the young (and stupid, as you said). let them have their say. why should the older generation faze out the younger ones. this is what really gets on my nerves. people who are so set on their ways that they dont see the bigger picture.

for years now, people have been saying something needs to be done. so what happens? harsher penalties! what should happen is harsher training! how do you get good at something? you learn, you train and you become better! half a year clearly isnt long enough and the training that you get is shithouse!

for our last comment, 'And you talk about loss of freedom. Hoons have already traded their freedom for paranoia.' i dont understand, are you calling peolpe who have a different point of view a hoon? and also, i have lost a mate to 'hoon' behavior and i still think this is a bad way around it.

please dont take any of this as a personal stab, it's hard to word things without sounding like im pissed off through typing.

what they are designed to do, and what they will be used for are 2 completely different things.

technically the defect system is designed to keep unsafe cars off the road, instead it is a useful tool for police to crack down on target groups, one being imports.

Exactly! Technically, this crushing cars idea will work, but that's in a perfect world. We don't live in one of those and these given powers will be abused at some point down the line

Totally agree with these guys.

I support this whole crushing of a hoon's car. In theory.

But then in theory, Communism works too...

I'll eat my own words if I see they go ahead & crush some over-sized 4x4s driven by soccer mums whom I see doing "reckless" driving on a daily basis.

Apparently the only way to train someone nowadays is to hardly train them at all until they do something wrong and then throw the book at them with everything under the law.

The elderly drives way below the speed limit, does not take notice of anyone else on the road unless your infront of them or as they're merging into you, anything that looks like its going slightly faster than them it doesnt register into their head and they get spooked.

Soccer mums are the only cars on the road - it doesnt register into their head that there are other cars around them, indicating is optional.

I believe in driver training ... but on the other side of the coin, the hoons know what they're doing wrong. They know doing skids and getting your car sideways and drag racing is illegal. You don't need extra training to tell you that. :P

I believe the licensing system should be set out similar to the Rider Safe scheme for motorcyclists. L and P platers are limited to 4 cylinder NA cars restricted by power to weight. When they get their full licence they go thru an advanced driver training test, but are still restricted to Na cars until (say) a 2 year period. Then they must complete another advance driver training course to get a turbo, V8, rotary whatever.

I speak english and I've used small enough words in the hope some would understand. I'm tired of repeating myself and talking to stupid people, so I'm done with this topic. Selfishness prevails over commonsense :P

CLEARLY, I didn't just say training is the only way to go. Training will help in alot of different situations in case of an emergency where they will need to correct an error, which we ALL make at times.

I used the word 'Education' in meaning, teaching them what's wrong and right. Sounds childesh, but some of these people need it to get into their heards and be shown pictures and what could happen if they choose to make those mistakes.

With harsher training and education, I would make NO objections to harsher penalties.

I thought that I have done the same. Made everything I said simple and straight to the point and didn't make any insults towards anyone yet being called stupid and selfish I'm still trying to make a civil conversation.

Your not listening to others Ruby. Your just looking at letters and words on a computer screen and getting frustrated as you think noones taking note of what your saying. Some people on here ARE being abit immature and not really wording what they say like they should be. Just except criticism towards a topic, everyone has their own opinion and I accept yours, why dont you accept others?

cheers

I think he means accept, not except.

This is all interesting debate, ranging from defects to what is hooning etc.

An interesting viewpoint occurred to me recently.

We live in what is essentially a democracy, where majority rules - or so it is believed.

90% of people drive stock, unmodified vehicles.

90% of people want modified and high powered vehicles off the roads, for whatever reason.

It is really only a matter of time before we are at the stage where you can't do ANYTHING to a street car.

I'm sure the laws will get tighter and tighter over the coming years until we arrive at this finality.

Even if the law was ever passed in this country (which it won't be for the reasons given earlier) crushing will be an absolute last resort and only to the repeat offenders.....not for squealing a tyre on a white line. :P

told ya

The new laws will come into effect later this year.

ok well im on my ps n i had only 2 demerit points left i know im probably going to lose my license but is making unessacery wheel noise and driving without control a demerit point loss or not because if they send me a letter saying ive lost my liceanse for speeding

then cant i take it to court n say were is the proof that i was going 80 like one cop just pulled me over n said yer you were speeding which i wasnt i just gotta little bit off wheelspin out of a corner thats what the unessacery wheel noise is n driving without control is for but i dont reckon i was going 80 lol

this may sound stupid but i just want to know what u guys think.........

We'll see when the new laws do come out Rok......I can see legislation being passed to criminalize the behaviour but crushing a car that belongs to a finance company????.....aint gonna happen.

....and you'll owe me that beer, LOL. :)

    • I've been pondering this, I really enjoy the convertible thing, for me, it's like riding a motorbike, without all the issue of riding a motorbike, mainly, my old sore arthritic joints getting beaten up, and, being able to do it in shorts and a T-shirt and not needing a helmet and all the other gear required, especially like wearing jackets and pants in the summer, or needing 6 layers of cloths in the winter, or not having wet weather gear handy when your 100km away from home on the bike when it decides to start raining As for the hard top and its Coupe look, whilst I do lose all that open top feeling that I really enjoy, from my experience with the NB with a detachable hard top, the cabin is a much nicer place to be, the difference in noise for one, a hard top quietens down the interior, alot, with the soft top up or down it's pretty noisy, which, after 5 or so hours, can get tiring But, as you stated, the detachable hard top totally changes the look of the car, in a really good way, and for me, the look of a detachable hard top is so much better than the PRHT which looks more like a after thought with its weird bulbous rear roof line For me, the minimal effort of putting in on, or storing it after removing it, is well worth the time and effort for the look alone And yes, I'm sure the next owner will be grateful for it as well.......
    • I get into huffs with people when I suggest the MX5 looks so much better as a coupe than it does as convertible. Pretty sure I don't prefer the convertible version of anything. Good job on the hardtop! The next buyer will appreciate.
    • IMO wrap does have its uses, but like you said, quality wrap, and professional installation, would probably cost want a quality paint job does, but, the paint, if maintained, is basically for life, and much easier to touch up if required  In other news: it's pissing down here, with thunder, lightning and only some small hail "at this stage", luckily all "my" cars are undercover  I've also been contacted by a guy in Newcastle about the SS, he said he will come down next weekend for a look, we'll see how that transpires I guess 🫰
    • Nah, I'm not an a-hole, ha ha!   I do like the colour match. Some of the carbon fibre wraps are quite freaking horrible. There's one a local company I know uses, and it looks damn good! Also very very expensive per metre to buy! ha ha ha It might be cheaper to respray the roof than use the good CF Wrap, ha ha!
    • Please noooooooo 😭 As for wrap, no thank you mate, I've seen and used "carbon fibre" wrap before, and for these hard tops, they look soooo good when colour matched Like this >>>
