What Oil For Engine And Gearbox

Recommended Posts

Hey currently running 10-40 semi synthetic penrite, done 5000km and still honey clean.

Gearbox using vtx castrol 70-90 but thinking of changing to Penrite sin 75-85.

Seems like an ok combination? Does nissan sell genuine oils for at least the gearbox?

What a good oil to use? Mainly interested in gearbox oil.

I was about to ask the same question about 34 Gearbox oil, but mine is a little more troublesome. After some hardcore dyno work i noticed 4th was an issue, later followed by bearing type noises in 2nd & 3rd gearshifts and also sometimes at idle.

Some damage is obviously present on 4th, whether its glazed of not i dunno, but i want to know what it that "good oil" you hear about when somebody mentions a few box drama's?

Need to know ASAP as the car is not being driven at the moment.

Just get it fixed Matt...a heavier viscousity oil (85w140) may silence the problem for you, but it will come back in 5-10,000km and may cause even more damage by then. Sounds a bit like a cluster bearing to me.

Yeah, i know what you are saying... But i need to keep it going till the $$$'s are available. I might try the Redline Shockproof stuff and see what happens?

Just use a wider viscousity range first, that should provide the biggest difference in silencing it rather than the type of oil used in it.
