Hi guys,

Just wanted to know if it is possible to cut the original bonnet to have a scoop/vent similar to those ones you see on the Evos?

I saw 2 R33 Skylines today with a air scoop sitting above the air filter. Which gave me a similar idea to do for my car as I still have the standar i/cooler and can't run a cai.

But I don't really like those hood sticking up (no offence), so just want to know is it possible to install a vent instead like the ones you see on Evos and even on R34s.

I think the r34 ones you are talking about are just part of the style of the bonnet - aftermarket ones. None of the factory bonnets have holes / vents in them...

But the Carbon Fibre ones like R34GTT-R's one have plenty of ventage :D

here's an example:

BTW, this car doesnt belong to anyone here AFAIK!

I think skylineakt was talking about a scoop for cold air intake rather than vents for getting rid of hot underbonnet air.

Sort of like some drift 180sx have the little intake above the headlight.

I think this would be a good idea, better than running a CAI from the front bar. I think ive seen a skyline with a nissan patrol turbo diesel intercooler scoop used for this purpose, but i cant remember where exactly.

Yeah, yeah. That's what I'm talking about. The little vent that you see on the eye lights of the 180sx. Like the ones on JMS 180 drift car.

I want something similar to that but cutting into the bonnet to get some cold air.

I just think that it looks cleaner than the scoop.

I don't think cutting the hole is the hard part, but getting the extra inverted vent to blend in with the pain/bonnet.

Anyone has any idea?!?

Sounds like you'r lookink for a NASA vent.... set into the bonnet rather than poking up above it.

If you want them on a stock bonnet you will need to have them

cut and fitted into the bonnet or find the ones you want and have them fitted.

lifting the rear of the bonnet is just a "rice" thing the base of the windscreen is a high pressure area ....so no good for venting hot air from under the bonnet.

Tell me then skylineakt, what have you seen on an r43? I know what you are talking about with EVO's, they virtually all have some type of bonnet vent but a 34? where? it must be aftermarket?

:shrugs:

I know no skylines come with bonnet vents, thats not what i meant, i meant an aftermarket CAI vent, like a NASA vent.

That way air goes into the bonnet not out like a bonnet vent like in the pic.

Ok I think the R34 vents I was thinking off is actually a heat vent, venting off the heat from the engine and not a CAI vent.

But it is the same vent but facing in the opposite direction. Like the 180sx headlight vent on the left hand side of the car.

Will it be a big job for them to mend one in??

Like with the paint etc??

i've seen a couple of different types aaron.

theres a purple silvia which has three nice cut outs on the bonnet above the filter which are meshed up. looks good. nothing above the bonnet or attached, just cut outs...

or at places like jr, jetspeed, they sell those vents u are talking about. you can get any body work place to cut the bonnet and mount the intake.

i was planning on doin one above my air filter using the ones that JMS sell. evo looking ones. i only want one above the air filter, not both, but they only come in pairs... :(
