Just want to say thanks for a great year - as today is the AGM for the NSW club, some know I didnt accept the nomination of President and Vice President for this year as I have alot of personal stuff coming up over the next 12 months and I felt I wouldnt be able to give 110% to the club.

In saying that, Id also like to thank Adam - abo bob for the last...4-5 years?? and last 2 years a as a bloody good president!! so cheers to Adam for all his hard work and efforts. He has been a great leader and good motivation and an inspiration to most (including myself!!)

So,

Thanks again to the guys and girls who supported us, and supported the club.

If you are interested, the AGM starts @ 3pm at West Ryde hotel - so feel free to tag along

So, my last post as VP hey....pitty I cant think of any smart ass comments to post and not being banned LOL

Cheers,

Chris/Chubbs/evil weevil/hairdresser/wiggles car driver/the stig - and any other names people have named me overe the last few years in the club LOL

Yeah, there is a need for thanks, mate - you've done a great job this past year and, as Jon said, you've left some big shoes for Doofy and I to fill!

Wish I could have been there today for the AGM, but I wasn't feeling the best when I woke up today and I still didn't feel too good around 2pm. Would have been good to sit down for a feed and a few drinks with the out-going President and VP(s), and catch up and/or meet the rest of the attendees. Issues with the electricity at home meant I couldn't even fax off my report about the merchandise or fax a proxy vote.

Chubbs, for the very short time i have been a member i have bombarded you with my questions ranging from what brake pads to use, to what beer is on special this week.

Thanks for signing me up as a NSW SAU member, so now i have even less drinking money and i figure out ways i can save more money for better semi slicks, and performance mods for my car.

Your dedication to the club was second to none mate, and i hope in a few years time i can put my hand up for VP and take a page our of your book and lead the way. Not only were you a good VP you were always having fun doing what you were doing, and thats the most important thing.......

Just want to say thanks to Adam and Corinne too! Lots of work from everyone in the past few years, and I hope they still stick around as they're not only great people, but great friends

    • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
