hi everyone.

im seriously considering buying an import and not worrying about registration.

i want to get a nice drift car and have found some cheap. im just wondering if anybody knows whats needed for importing a car for this purpose?

does it need deregistration? im pretty sure it would need import aproval still?

and just curious, if i did want to register it instead whats the deal with RAWS or SEVS or whatever it is?

the car ive got in mind is a 1993 model.

ive had a car (fc3c rx-7) complied under the 15 yr rule before. that was easy as! all i realy did was new exhaust and new seatbelts... i didnt import the vehicle tho. my girlfriend and i bought it in australia un-complied

thanks, Brendan.

Hi Brendan,

It might pay to do a search on this topic, because it has been covered numerous times in this section already. Also please tell me that the car you've found isn't on tradecarview, because you're bound to have your heart broken.

hmmm... had a look and found the website 'http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/importing_vehicles/general/index.aspx'

ive been umming and ahhing about wether or not to try and register it...

ive come to the decision that i will try to register it because the car is so damn nice...

so im not sure what to do? all i got from the site above is info about "personal imports"

how do i go about getting it into australia and complying it?

the car is a very nice 1993 fd3s rx-7... black, 25,000k's... my dream car :P

thanks, Brendan

lol, 1993 FD with 25,000kms... muhahaha. it must still have the original tyres, pads etc with those kms. it would almost certainly have to be one owner car too and therefore have all supporting log books. let me guess... they don't have them.

better check that you can comply early model FDs. I'm not sure that you can as they were sold here. afaik only late models (like 2000+) are eligible.

FYI, 1993 FD3s RX7 are not elegiable to import under SEVS.

You can only import this car if you have a CAMS licence but it can never be registered.

Hope that helps

Paul

    • The MX5 has had some annoying rattles in both front doors over bumps So I installed fancy pants door bushings, which stopped all of the rattles with the windows up, but........with the windows down there was still rattles, so after some googling,  and a chat with MX5 Mania, I got some new door to glass weather seals, all the rattles, windows up, or down, are gone now Shout out to MX5 Mania, the weather seals were on sale, and when I head to Dural to pick the up they even fitted them for me for free I did see a "really" nice Blue NA sitting out front   and this Black NC PRHT that looked like it has sat in the sun for its whole life and never had a wash, the clear coat was non-existent, an it looked horrible, really horrible, but, it had a nice turbo kit with over 200kw, the thing went like a cut snake, bagging the rears through the gears and dosing like a champ 😍 But, as I've always stated, I am keeping my NC na, I'm happy with the current power the car makes In other news: MX5 Mania do a drive in drive out turbo kit, the only minor additional part recommended for boosting my car, as it sits now, is a oil cooler, and that bonnet vents are definitely required for track use Aftermarket version look a bit to "racecar" spec I wonder how Focus RS bonnet vents would look?????
