hello again everyone

i had another thread on the go regarding my ECU a while back and i thought instead of digging that up from the depths id just start a fresh one.

ive got a 1997 series 1 RS4 auto 4WD

ive managed to fix my 4wd troubles (broken fuse holder pin)

but ive still got no rev limiter

ive had a good dig around in the loom near the computer and was quite concerned with the amount of wires that have been cut, spliced and joined

bear with me on this but ill try and explain it as best i can and check out the photos and if anyone can give me an idea if there is some sort of FCD or piggyback unit installed that would be great.im pretty sure what ever is in there isnt stock, the car runs fine, the wiring just looks like shite

any help this time would be greatly appreciated as always

ive got 4 thick gauge grey wires

1 joined to a orange and blue wires, thats also joined to a thick gauge black wire

1 joined to a white a blue wire

1 joined to grey and red wire and a black and orange wire

1 joined to a white and blue wire and an orange and blue wire

then there is also 2 black and red wire cut and joined together

i hope thats not too confusing, check out the pics if it doesnt make sense

thanks again

rodders

yeah those thicker grey multi-core cables are standard. i just had my ecu loom apart the other week installing a boost controller and noticed them too. i'm sure they run out to the various sensors around the car, like the TPS and CAS.

A member has translated the pinout from the Stagea manual (sorry forgot who so can't credit him) so if you give me an email address I can send it to you as an attachment. The R34 pinout in the DIY sticky above is almost the same so will do for most purposes.

Just as a matter of interest is your speed limiter disabled as well (i.e. have you managed to exceed 180 KM/hr ...not on a public road of course)?

Just to check your rev counter is working OK my car is doing about 120k @ 7000 rpm in 2nd.

I don't think the Bee*R rev limiter is a good solution - I think you'll have to find out the problem with your stock rev limiter and fix it (most likely suspect some after market gadget or a cut speed sensor wire).

Damn you need a macro mode on your camera

:)

+1 on resolving the pin #'s - it will allow us to sort it.

If your rev counter reads 7000 rpm @ 120 in 2nd then its OK. If it reads 8,500 rpm @ 120 in second then its not ok. I don't really think its going to be your rev counter but worth checking. Still think there could be some aftermarket thingy somewhere or a speed sensor wire cut or adrift.
