It is easy as piss to tell how many km a car has done Ben. Take it to any decent workshop and they will be able to tell you.

Easy signs:

- brake rotor wear (the brake rotors on the one I was looking at were seriously lipped which CAN'T happen in 25,000km with standard pads still on)

- bushes wear

- belt wear (the one I was looking at had a seriously cracked and dated a/c belt - which again CAN'T happen in 25,000km)

- steering wheel wear

- gearknob wear

- seatbelt wear

and there are tons more.

+1

I had mine inspected before I flew to Sydney to pick her up. She was a genuine 32,000kms then, and a genuine 62,000kms now. :(

Brake rotors, bushes, belts, wheels, knobs are all replacable components. I had the aftermarket steering wheel, shift knob, seat, brake rotors when i bought the car so that doesnt really help in my case

The seatbelt is in good nick tho, the timing belt was the original nissan one which got changed 4 months ago, which was worn to buggery (so I'm guessing 100k km mark)...

I'd be more interested in stuff that isnt replacable due to wear and tear - chassis, engines, doors etc

I've ended up replacing several bushes, wheel, front rotors, timing belt, etc so I'd be interested as to how many miles the mechanic would think the car has done

-D

lot of people would also question when things have been modified, if my car didnt have the original steering wheel i wouldnt have bought it. that was 1 of my rules but then they can get releathered, everything can get covered up but it takes a great effort to do it all and you wanna be looking at reasonablness compared with other stuff. if its got 100k there should be a few lil scuff marks so be worried about anything that looks brand spanking new that shouldnt.

u kidz getting way off topic :(

I would like to thank Dohmar for taking the lead with the Riverland car show and if anybody has any questions please direct them to him as he will be the coordinator of this event .S

No worries.

OK first things first; Entry forms.

If you have NOT got an entry form please let me know. They are probably downloadable from the web somwhere but I'll check with Stuart in regards to this.

Entry forms must be lodged by the 17th October. You may technically apply to enter afterwards, however there is a fee of $20. I would like to finalize the SAU lineup by the 17th at the latest (as the show is the following weekend of the 24th).

Who here has a tent/shadecloth we can use? Who has the SAU signs that have been used for prior events? Does anyone have a collapsible table that will fit in their car? (Stag owners, I'm looking at you . Provided we have a nice display, we can hopefully sign up some new members to the club - so I'm thinking a desk, a small cash float and some seats for our mighty club secretary and executive would be handy. Tent is preferred incase of wind/rain, and a big one at that (ex army command tent would be outstanding). Shadecloth/gazebo at the min (as petes head will look like a tomato otherwise)

Setting up for the event isn't very hard but it does require everyone to be punctual and willing to help the setup. After the 3 hour drive from adelaide, your car will almost certainly be covered in dust and insects, so dont bother about detailing when you're in adelaide - do it Friday night or first thing sat morning. Once the cars are in place, they are not to be moved for the entire duration of the event. This is for two reasons - a) safety (for spectators) and b) security (so if some bogan tries to steal your car hes going to have a bunch of people stopping him - hopefully). During this time, you will find ample time for detailing your rims/underbody and getting the exterior cleaned and polished. Keep your windows up during the drive to Loxton and u wont get any dirt on the inside ;P

The event is a long day and theres only so many laps of the oval you can take so, you may want to bring some alternative entertainment - laptop, mp3 player, book, whatever. Last year I went for a walk in Berri and had my lunch while checking out the sites, so I'd probably like to get everyone to take turns minding the display, as some will no doubt want to have a look around the place, get lunch, etc.

Anyone who hasn't found accomodation, please pm me if you need assistance.

Anyone who wants an english breakfast on sat morning, please pm me so I can buy enough food.

Anyone who wants a professional detailer to do the hard work for you, again pm me.

I'll probably make an appearance at Villis this Friday to hear any suggestions - being my first event as an organizer, I'd love to hear all suggestions.

I can say from last years experience that the Riverland show was great fun in spite of me getting a gnarly sunburn, so I'm looking forward to this years display. It should kick arse. I'd ideally like to have some solid plans made up within two weeks. Once the plan is finalized, I'll distribute to all show entrants for their final approval and comment.

If anyone else out there is willing to come to the show, you're more than welcome. Be aware however that petrol, entry fee, food, accomodation and the like all have a tendency to add up. Some folks think that the $60 entry fee is all they have to worry about and then pull out a week before the show - I would very much like to avoid this.

Awaiting the pm deluge :/

Good Job Dohmar

It is a shame that Cara won't be joining us, as she got it organized.

I have booked a room/apartment for myself and my mate, it has off the street parking. I also booked a room for Krishy inside the Hotel. I am heading up the Friday and staying the 2 nights, coming back the Sunday arvo. I too would be interested in a BBQ, and as for the radio, i don't really care.

Just wondering about the drive up, all the people heading up the Friday, do you want to meet up somewhere and go together? If so, do you want to get some Walkie-Talkie's so we can have convo's/spam music to each other on the drive up? If anyone is interested, i will talk to my mates at Strathfield and see what, if any, deal they can do for me.

Cara has organized my entry forms and payment. Instead of sending you a pm, i shall say here. English Breakfast for myself and my mate, and i shall have my car detailed on the outside please.

Yeah I have 2 handheld 2-ways, so someone can borrow one of mine if they wish. As for the ~250km drive up, will you be going via Murray Bridge or Gawler?

247km Adelaide -> Gawler -> Blanchetown -> Loxton

256km Adelaide -> Murray Bridge -> Karoonda -> Loxton

Reason I ask as many of you know I live out of Gawler, and I would rather drive in a group so if everyone wants to go via Murray Bridge I will have to allow some more time for myself on the Friday.

Cool thats good feedback - i just got off the phone to Stuart who has confirmed your and Krishys entry forms. I do have 2 0.5 watt walkies which are good enough for people in the middle of the convoy, but you really do need a co-pilot to do the talking as the 2 way is very distracting, and since I'm driving I'll probably just loan them both out to whoever dibs first. (I figure I have bluetooth hands free mobile in the car incase anyone needs to contact me desperately - otherwise I'll be crankin the old slipknot). The walkie talkies came in handy when nightcrawler, 4doorsleeper and redback went to our fishing trip, guy was my radioman and redback was nightcrawlers radioman. Probably not worth buying any just for the trip, but hey, if you have 2 way UHF already then bring it. Regarding meeting up, I'll probably be taking the Friday off work and travelling up in the middle of the afternoon so I can survey the place and take notes, so probably won't have anyone travelling up with me, however with a 3 hour drive at night time, a convoy is a good thing for safetys sake.

It is a shame that Cara won't be involved but she will be up there helping with the Riverland organizers so you can all say hello, and I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank her for getting the ball rolling with the initial interest and also for helping the riverland club organize the event as a whole. We should have a great time!

ill be there at the show Abe.

I live down south - Aldinga, and am willing to drive up north to meet with people to drive as a group...be more fun, bit of a mini cruise :/

Thats good to hear about our entry forms...Thanks Cara  . I am bringing my Vilis tag-along with me, Tim (Fliggy), so he is my co-pilot, and i have a GPS too...so that is my navigator. I just thought of the radios incase someone breaks down - they arent left alone, or if someone needs to pull off for a rest/fuel etc.

I too am taking Friday off to head up there, not sure what time i am leaving yet, depends if anyone wants to meet up and go together.

I have 2 x 1W walkies I can bring (and lend someone 1). I too plan on taking half a day off Friday and driving up mid-afternoon - no fun getting up there in the dark.

As I am a Northie too (live less than 2km from Dohmar) I was thinking of a meet-up at Bunnings Parafield or something like that at maybe 2pm(ish). And am coming home Sunday sometime - not sure if I will stay in the Riverland for lunch or bolt home after breakfast - will see what time the boss says I have to be home.

yeah I will take the day off too, so whenever for me...

If I worked that day I could tag on at Nurioopta about 4.15-4.20pm but I think I will be in too much of a rush so I will just take it off - my employer doesnt care

Sounds like a plan, i myself was thinking earlier, about 12 or 1, but whatever. I am coming back Sunday arvo, hanging around for the cruise. I only ask about going as a group, as i am having some "work" done to my car soon (2-4 weeks) and am not too sure how reliable it is going to be.

Exactly why I wanted to be in a group

(and I'd probably get lost lol)

Is the show on the saturday or sunday?
OK everyone i got some info about this years Riverland Auto Expo.

This year it is being held in Loxton.

On Saturday October 24th there will be the Show and Shine and Caberet and then on Sunday October 25th there will be a cruise and lunch happening.

Gary and Deby Myers will have their "Silver Bullet" Mustang there, and Gary Baxter will have his V8 Brute Ute there also,......

i have entry forms already for this - so lets get in early!!!!!!!!

so who is up for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the show on the saturday or sunday?

Sat.

And Andrews plan sounds good. Lets compromise and say 12:30-1pm meetup, we hand out spare walkie talkies at bunnings and we go convoy style from there.

I too dont know if I'll stay for the cruise. Pete is trying to twist my arm but I'm wondering if 3 hours to Adelaide wont be a cruise in and of itself.

Best route is to head up to Gawler and then take the highway to barmera. We can pick up any north northies (like dion) on the way there, possibly by making our last fuel stop inside gawler and then going straight to Loxton.

I won't want to leave later than 2pm. I need at least a couple of hours of daylight to check in and detail my car...

And if people want a professional detail done, they might need to do it on the Friday night, as I'm not sure if there will be time for everyone in the morning - we're pushing it mighty fine on that front.

You guys should hang for the Sun morning cruise at least

I've got a UHF in the truck too so we should all be able to communicate along the way.

Going via Murray Bridge would be closer for me but I'm also happy to go via Gawler if that's what most peeps are doing.

I'll also try and finalize all urgent reports the night before so I can get an early start Friday.

    • So, the other thing I've sorted is a baseline dyno run up at Unigroup's new location. The auto trans was a little unco-operative by both shifting down when the throttle was floored on the dyno (so Mark had to ramp it up more slowly than in a manual) and also by shifting up at 6,000 even in sports mode instead of the indicated redline of 7,000 Still, on a hot day it made 240rwkw at 16psi which seems about right for 300kw (400hp) through an auto at the wheels.  The shape of the curve is not quite right because it was not full throttle to about 4,500 to stop it kicking down, but until I can get a tune on the auto trans control this was the best we could do.....full boost will be well below 5,000 once that is sorted, I'll get some data logs when I can to confirm For comparison, the R32 made 255 at 12psi (at 4,500) on the same dyno with tune, n1 turbos, cam gears, big exhaust but otherwise all standard so the v37 is likely a little better out of the box. One thing that is very clear is that the standard water to air intercoolers are not up to sustained use at full throttle in warm ambient temps. After about 5 runs (so only a few minutes full throttle), it was pulling boost and timing and dropping 10-15% power. Unfortunately I didn't get that printout and the Unigroup guys are away at the moment, will try and get hold of it on their return. So, looks like a healthy engine to start modifying and the only real area of concern is the w2a heat exchangers which the aftermarket has plenty of solutions for
    • I maintain it actually looked really nice in person. So much so that I thought "No, this is illegal" but there it was, clear as day. I think we can easily call the wing and wheels/height to be transformative. Not saying it's better than the GR Whatever, or the 86, or the WRX STI or anything of that sort (the internet says it all bolts up so you can buy best of all worlds?) but it's still at least a thing and not nearly AS bad as people say.
    • That's less offensive than the previous gen.....except for all that ugly black tupperware around the edges. Blerck!
    • I leant out the window recently and took a picture of this new WRX. It looked real damn fine in person. It's faster around a track (stock) than a (stock) GR Yaris. It's much more practical despite being heavier. It's significantly cheaper. This gen tunes really well, much better than others. .... I think they're probably a lot better than people expect.
    • WRXs are a pure pleb boring car these days. You need to get an STI to even get close to what a WRX used to be.
