I'm not saying your little Colt isn't nice Ryan, but simply that Shane's 180 is a fully customised show car that has had $100k thrown at it and is needless to say one of the best cars in the country (especially considering it has been on a TV show, and had many, many magazine front covers and various magazine shoots).

You do the maths.

Every now and then the under dog gets up though and judges desicion is final. To say Shane's car is extremely well built would be an understatment, but on the day I guess it wasn't what the judges were looking for the best modern coupe etc? Either way it's just a bit of a downer when you put time and effort into a show and come away with a trophy only to then see something like that written on a public forum......bad taste thats all.

and 2nd place in the coupe category was a stock standard Monaro - WTF .... where is the V35 love? :/ .... at least I had SOME mods ....

Remember aswell the award was best "modern" coupe award. Monaro and RColt are both only a few years old. But yeah I would rather see a V35 win over a monaro

since it was the airbrush/vynals award as they said before presenting it

lighten up kids, my vote for best car there was the lambo diablo and that didnt win sh*t.

dont think the owner cared less, he left rolling in more money than will ever be in your super fund :/

thanks for clearing that up for me Dan....all i heard was that award for best airbrushing goes to....

Then again u cannot have vynals and airbrushing in the same category.....it 2 different things.....gary myers purple flames were airbrushed....sleds bike was airbrushed.....so now your going to compare vynals with airbrushing its ridiculous

^^ relax guys, this is the way it usually is with the country shows. They like to spread the awards around so that everybody gets a little lovin' and will then hopefully come back for the next one.... it makes sense for them to do this.

Country shows are not about awards anyhow.. its about chillin with a good bunch for a weekend away... cars are just the excuse!

He wasnt having a go at your car. He was praising shanes. There is a difference. If you read between the lines hard enough you can interpret it any way you want, but he wasn't dissing your ride...

+1 to what martin just posted too. We had a great weekend, because it was about the company with other likeminded legends

Tho the voting is a little suss at times, we really did quite well out of it when you consider it

And Krishy is spot on - airbrushing is a crazy hard skill that takes hours and hours to do - and if you screw it up you have to start from scratch. Vinyls are just a type of sticker, not saying they look cheap or are easy to do (because theyre not) but theyre not in the same league as airbrushing. Same could be said with the whole coupe/hatch thing, theyre similar but not in the same class. Coupes are 2 door sedans, Hatchs finish at the rear wheel and have the boot before the rear axle. Its like the difference between a mid mounted engine or a rear mounted engine (axle placement).

In either case, Im sure that next years show might just have extra categories, after all you can only improve when you get constructive criticism, and I know that comparing last year and this year, that this years was much much bigger. Cant wait to see next years effort!

Yeah you are dead right Ben - and in fact when I made the sub-post about Shane not winning best coupe, I didn't actually know that Ryan's RColt had even won the award - it was definitely not a diss on you or your car Ryan, that is for sure. I apologise sincerely if my ranting was misinterpreted.

And yes, I understand they need to share the award loving around, and my comment about the Monaro taking 2nd was meant in jest - there was no way, no how my near stock 35 was going to get near any awards ....

haha, yeah I don't think I've ever seen a $10K sticker

can you say back peddling?

Yeah me neither. I was just explaining how my comment was misinterpreted as a dig at Ryan, when clearly it wasn't meant that way. In fact I actually had no idea that Ryan was the owner of the RColt, or that he was even there - if I had realised it was him I would have gone over and said g'day. I have met him briefly before, but didn't recognise him at the show - clearly I was too busy wrapped up in my own little world of setting up/cleaning, then alcohol affectation

yeah ya must have been considering him and his gf were sitting with us in the tent for a couple hours lol

kids, dont do drugs

Edit - this would probably explain why andrews hangover was twice as bad as the next seediest person (luke)

big thumbs down for the nissan 300zx crew for leaving early - you guys are soft as kleenex... they left around 2:30 (as did some other displays) but wtf - a show is from x to y time.... people were still paying to get in and only getting half a show thanks to these dunces ... oh well...

lol, most of those dudes are daytime cruisers, they are normally in bed by 8pm and scared of the dark so thats why they left plus they had a car to tow back that was towed there rofl,

well done guys, you had a good display from the pix

It seems that the Skyline club (SAU) that was next to us on the day got their noses out of joint because we bet them in the club display..

"Without a doubt the best looking display at the show, only to be beaten by a bunch of pretty slapper cars that did a pretty homo Halloween theme - in a 'display' that entailed lining the cars up in a singe line".

I dont know whats worse..... SAU being sore loses or the fact that they got beaten by a bunch of "slapper" cars..

Its a shame really, because they had some nice skylines there... Its just a shame that the quality of the cars does not reflect the quality of the people...

Aha! what a choice photo. I was having a good time behind the dude in the old red convertible, such a great looking car, and he totally suited it with his driving cap. Two thumbs up

Thx for taking onboard the criticism, but theres always a whinger somewhere ;D The show was awesome, we had a great time and we'll be back next year fo sho!

And I dont begrudge the 300zx team winning the trophy, I was sure that the holden boys would take it away (cos it looked sweet) but at the end of the day I'm not an expert - judges are :P So grats to the 300zx club. We're going to give u a run next year for sure, so be on your toes >

    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion
    • So, the other thing I've sorted is a baseline dyno run up at Unigroup's new location. The auto trans was a little unco-operative by both shifting down when the throttle was floored on the dyno (so Mark had to ramp it up more slowly than in a manual) and also by shifting up at 6,000 even in sports mode instead of the indicated redline of 7,000 Still, on a hot day it made 240rwkw at 16psi which seems about right for 300kw (400hp) through an auto at the wheels.  The shape of the curve is not quite right because it was not full throttle to about 4,500 to stop it kicking down, but until I can get a tune on the auto trans control this was the best we could do.....full boost will be well below 5,000 once that is sorted, I'll get some data logs when I can to confirm For comparison, the R32 made 255 at 12psi (at 4,500) on the same dyno with tune, n1 turbos, cam gears, big exhaust but otherwise all standard so the v37 is likely a little better out of the box. One thing that is very clear is that the standard water to air intercoolers are not up to sustained use at full throttle in warm ambient temps. After about 5 runs (so only a few minutes full throttle), it was pulling boost and timing and dropping 10-15% power. Unfortunately I didn't get that printout and the Unigroup guys are away at the moment, will try and get hold of it on their return. So, looks like a healthy engine to start modifying and the only real area of concern is the w2a heat exchangers which the aftermarket has plenty of solutions for
    • I maintain it actually looked really nice in person. So much so that I thought "No, this is illegal" but there it was, clear as day. I think we can easily call the wing and wheels/height to be transformative. Not saying it's better than the GR Whatever, or the 86, or the WRX STI or anything of that sort (the internet says it all bolts up so you can buy best of all worlds?) but it's still at least a thing and not nearly AS bad as people say.
    • That's less offensive than the previous gen.....except for all that ugly black tupperware around the edges. Blerck!
    • I leant out the window recently and took a picture of this new WRX. It looked real damn fine in person. It's faster around a track (stock) than a (stock) GR Yaris. It's much more practical despite being heavier. It's significantly cheaper. This gen tunes really well, much better than others. .... I think they're probably a lot better than people expect.
