I finally ditched my SU's, and are now running tripple 40mm Dell'ortos.

They run, but I know very little about how to set them up correctly. Any pics, tips, resources would be greatly appreciated.

I need to know really basic stuff like which hoses should be connected to the manifold? (There is provision for one large and two small hoses.)

Should I now cancel the water hoses on the right side of the block that water-cooled the SU manifold?

Should I cancel the breather hose on the front right side of the block, or loop it up and plug it into the rocker cover?

Does anyone know how to balance/tune adjust the idle etc?

For balance you need to get your hands on a balancing tool. The best ones have a ball float on the side of them, that measures and sets up the flow rate. I have one new and hardly used but am reluctant to let it go. I have a Vane tune up analyzer too if anyone is interested, great for carby, non EFI engines, has all the instructions on how to use but no oscilliscope.

Hi Drew, The hose on the right( crank breather hose) on my L28 is just attached to the inside guard with a small breather/filter on the end. It's been assembled this way in both cars and is fine. On my rocker cover I also have a small breather filter. Regarding setting up of the carbs, if they were webers I could give you heaps of advice.You can see the filter just behind the first weber K&N fiter.If the linkage set up is similar to mine, you wind the screw on the control arms right in, then turn in each one 1/4 0f a turn. These must be set very closely. I then screw in the idle mixture screw( clockwise and gently) to the fully closed position. Then open them out 1and 1/2 turns. This normally gets me started. Then I start with the left side carb on each webere and wind it in clockwise till it runs rough, then back to the right to where it picks up revs and then find the happy medium. You can feel the change with each adjustment. This is only a guide to getting it running in a driveable state. I also get it checked with the balancing tool. Infact last time I was only a smidge out, the guy reckoned I had done a pretty good job. Don't know how similar your carbs are so this may be of no help. Good luck. 1. From memory Prince Skylines are tripple 40mm Webers and Ricky you run tripple 45mm webers. However at this stage ANY info about setting up tripples is useful as there must be some similarities between weber and dellorto.

2. I'll sort out the crank breather like you said Ricky, and Ill post some pics of the carbs and we can compare.

3. Ill borrow a balancer from a mate who lives nearby.

    • Hmm. I should have thought of the clutch bleeding issue. It should be #1 thought for "can't select gears". As to "sounds like the top".....have you actually gone out with the stethoscope and tried to pin it down any more than that? And, buy or borrow a timing light, and set the timing properly.
    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
