Which Hi Flow Cat Should I Get?

Have searched, people are saying X force are good and bad, Metal cat are good and bad, steel internals are bad cause they melt or buckle, ceramic internals are no good.

Im confused, I want to fit a 3.5 inch hi flow cat but dont want to spend a ridiculous ammont of cash on it. Ive got HKS exhaust front and rear sections with Nissan or compliance cat bolted in at the moment.

Which hi flow cat do I get, needs to be able to handle 300AWKw.

help!!

what sort of power increases does a high flow cat make

That my friend is a length of a piece of string question. Very much depends on current engine power output. On a stock engine, expect maybe 2-3kw...ironically pretty much the variability between dyno readings :)

I put the the xforce 3.5 hi flow cat on mine and it instantly ran better. I already had 310awkw and im guessing its gone up a little. Boost ran higher so i had to turn it back down..

I have a a melted metalcat in my garage.

the roll has come loose and rattles around in the barrel. this was on a car making around 250rwkw with afr's that were between 11.5:1 and 12:1. and there was no excessive exhaust gas temps. the car also saw the track around 3 times with the cat on.

it only lasted 9 months before it started rattling.

Guys, that one has a temp sensor probe inlet thingy on it. Im almost certain the cat I have on at the moment doesnt have that. What would I do with that inlet If I bought that one??

On a side note, the exhaust temp that is displayed on the MFD, where is that temp measured from?

I just had an exhaust built for mine and I am almost certiain that the temp probe is in the dumps, so you shouldnt have to worry about it.

Also Magnaflow make a pretty good 3.5inch cat, flows very well

i have been recommended to get a 200 cell metal cat.

Ballistic cats are 100 cell. I recently got a price of around $350 (from memory) without flanges for a 5 inch body 3.5 inch inlet/outlet Balistic cat from this place:

So if I buy this one I can just screw a bolt into the temp probe thing to block it?? Can anyone see any dramas with this bolting straight up to my HKS system in place of the Nissan cat that is currently bolted in??

It flows up to 880CFM - Is that good???

Yep you can just block off the hole. That said, the stock system uses a probe (hence all these cats have one) so you should still have the probe floating around somewhere, maybe taped/tied to the chassis but not necessarily plugged in.

You will notice ALOT of the hi flow metal cats are not EPA Compliant, although being a CAT and if you do get EPAed your car will still be a defect.

Saying that, if you do get a metal cat, and it happens to be EPA compliant and you've got a high powered car, watch it last around 1 year before it dies.

i just gutted my compliance cat last night, among other things, as i installed new turbo and was having some issues with it and was trying different things. good news is its running beautifully now.

bad new is i just heard from my cuz that he got done for a gutted cat and had to fork out 4.5k.

that was after they did an emissions test at the pits, which i thought was not possible and you had to book an inspection to do so.

So does anyone know which of these hiflows ARE epa approved? otherwise whats the point really?
