How good is the HKS GT2535 ?

I was goin to buy a gt2530 but it sold. Its for a rb25det and i realy need to know how good the hks gt2535 would be on my car..

I read an artical on a HKS GT-RS and they said it was to fill the gap between the GT2530 and GT2540 .. but isnt that what the GT2535 is ????

Im way confused ...

I can't help you in terms of where the GT-RS fits into the picture as I'm in a similar boat thinking the 2535 was between the two and from the specs it would appear to be the case.

Have you settled on an HKS turbo? Because you should have a read of a thread called "HKS turbos v Garrett" or something similar. Very good discussion. I was thinking the HKS 2535 for mine as i only have modest power aspirations but I'm leaning towards a garrett GT25/28 now as they are more efficient at lower boost than a similar spec'd HKS item.

Good luck! Will be interesting to read people's comments....

:burnout:

This is the thread in question

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...?threadid=14183

And i'm not going to bother with a 2nd hand HKS.

i can get a brand new Garrett for around 2g's.

And i'll not need to run high amounts of boost.

Not when you can get something better for your dollar.

At the end of the day that's what it is about.

Value for money.

have a read of the thread, whilst it will take a while. That thread is one of the most valuable around on this subject

If I had an RB25DET engine I would go for a GT28 series based turbo, be that Garrett or HKS. The GT25 series, in my opinion is a bit too small for the 2.5L and better suited for the 2.0L. Going for the GT28 will still give you good response and a lot more top end. Something like a GT2835 would be just nice :D

In determining whether you're going to go for a Garrett or HKS, you have to decide how much boost you're going to run. As they say Garrett turbos are more efficient with low boost, HKS turbos run better at higher boost. So if you're not going to do internals and all, just stick with Garrett turbos. You can still keep an integral wastegate with the GT28. Once you get bigger like the GT30 series, you will most probably need an external wastegate. Although, HKS also have the GT30307 PRO S which has an integral wastegate. Not sure if Garrett have a similar thing?

ok so on a ks gt2535 the 35 part is the rear size, so bigger number = more top end but boost gets laggier ..

so what is the diff between the 25 and 28 ?

do the 28' bolt straight onto the stock exhaust manifold like the 25's ?

With the HKS turbos, the first two numbers describe the compressor housing and the last two numbers the exhaust housing (I think?). For example, a GT2530 turbo has a smaller exhaust housing than a GT2540 or a GT2835 turbo. But with housings, the A/R ratio also determines how fast the turbo will spool up and it's max potential. A larger A/R ratio means that it will be laggier but have more top end, vice versa for a smaller A/R ratio.

I think the GT28 turbos will have a GT28 exhaust housing outlet flange? You might have to check this. The A/R of the exhaust housing is most important, you want something that will match your engine. I used to run an HKS GT3037S turbo with 0.73 exhaust housing A/R ratio and it was a slug on the road on my 2L 4G63 engine. If I had a choice again I would go for a GT28 series for a 2L. Not too laggy, but great top end. Many people on this forum have had good results from a GT30 turbo on the RB25.

ok im totaly confused what to get now ...

so i want one that makes the earliest best boost with the smallest amount of psi so i dont have to get a new head gasket .. is that right, so if i get one that i need to crank up to 20-30psi i would need a thicker head gasket ?

what psi or bar is the standard gasket ok to ?

RS500: Sorry, haven't been on this forum for a while. I'll check my PM :)

Mick: I am not sure what the maximum boost is for the RB25 without something going pop, but I would think it would be near 1bar (?). With that amount of boost, a Garrett turbo would be sufficient. I would go for a GT28, or if you don't mind a little more lag the GT30 turbo. I think Steve (on this forum) used a GT3037S on his RB25 and was pleased with his results. I think he's now using a 0.87 A/R exhaust housing. You should ask him about how responsive it is and how much he's making. He's making a very nice figure though ;)

Mick,

fyi, the HKS GT2530, 2535, 2540 & GT-RS all share the same exhaust/turbine wheel and it's only the compressor wheels which are different from each other.

the HKS GT2530 & 2535 compressor wheels are both from the T3 family whereas the compressor wheel in the GT2540 is actually the smallest from the T04S family, hence why it's laggier than the others, although capabale of more air-flow.

the HKS GT-RS actually has a 52-trim compressor wheel from the GT35 family.

Incidentally, the GT35 48 & 56-trim compressor wheels are available with the Garrett GT25.

lookup the following - CHRA No. 446179-0031 & 446179-0032;

hope this helps, good luck.

ok i have a big hks fmic, apexi pod, cat back exhaust, plugs are gapped at .8, and ive got a SAFC .. so with these can i bolt a HKS GT2535 turbo and a hks dump pipe on ? its got the hks actuator as well ..

What else do i HAVE to do to my car to run this ?

What else SHOULD i do to it even thoe it will run without it?

Well, when I did my turbo I also put in a MoTeC M48PRO and a Bosch Motorsport 044 fuel pump. Now, you may not want to go to that extreme...and spend loads of $$$...but I would under some form or another upgrade your ECU management, not just the SAFC, and your fuel...be that a bigger fuel pump and/or injectors. Running a larger turbo, this would be recommended...and a full tune of course. This will give you the most benefit out of the whole upgrade, of course it is going to cost you and is a fair bit jump in $$$. Next step after that would be going internals and doing another re-tune, but I'm not sure if you want to go that far.

You probably could get away with the ECU and fuel if you run low boost. But if you want to wind it up to 1bar, I would definitely get the ECU and fuel upgraded. And I am sure you'd want to wind it up to 1bar once you've got the bigger turbo in...trust me :) Better to be safe than sorry. A larger turbo is going to suck in more air and so needs more fuel so you need to remap your fuel requirements.

I got a question for you all. Since I am from the US I am looking for a turbo for my RB25 S13. I have been doing alot of research on the turbo's you guys run but the #'s that are used for you trims are different then our. Here is a link to a turbo shop that I plan to get my turbo from. I will probaly run a T3/T4 with an internal wastegate. As far as oil line/coolent line mods go I have that figured out so I am just looking for a good sized turbo for a stock RB25. I would say somthing in the 400-450 HP range.

hi there,

the reason why the numbers don't match up is b/c you are looking at the bush-bearing t3/t4 turbos.

after looking at the website, if you still want a t3/t4 turbo which is a nice streetable turbo with heaps of flow, i'd recommend you go for "TA3410-6s or 7s", otherwise if $$$ is no object and you want a ball-bearing turbo, then i'd go for the "NEW" 56-trim GT30 which is listed at the bottom.

That's the turbo that a lot of people are running here so it should do you ok, although it will require an external wastegate.

I'm going bigger than a GT28 for my RB25. I also agree the GT25's are a big small.

I'll be heading down a GT35/40 or something... something a bit smaller possbily.

But then, im chasing 300-350rwkw. And i dont wanna run stupidly high boost. I wanna keep in under 18-20psi.

I'll have the housings/wheels to suit and i should achieve 15psi by around 3500rpm i've been told, which for me is the perfect amount of lag. And if the turbo is a little more laggy that that, Adjustable cam gears and even Cams can go in to compensate for that.

I will also be keeping an internal gate with this setup which should be on the car before the end of November all things going well

Also have a look here.

Another good thread, admittadly they are running on VL's but like i said before. Housings and wheels can be changed to suit and it does have some good information in the thread.

I see why now. So not to many people down there run standered bushing turbo's. Ballbearings are nice but I would rather spend money on other things with my limited budget. So you thing a T3-60 turbo is the way to go? I would be alittle worried about compressor clearance in the S13. I guess I need to get the RB25 in the car first.

    • Hi everyone, I'm generally new to DIY projects, and I've browsed this forum and watched a lot of youtube videos but still have a few questions   Firstly, how does spray painting interior hold up? in particular like vinyl parts, my current mode of thinking is to use methyl spirits to take off original paint, clean/prep well, light coats, no primer or clear coat    Secondly, what is recommended for the headliner and, for example (my car is a r34), the A-pillars which are some kind of other fabric material, do you think I would be successful at retrimming these? or would it be better to go down the blacking out via Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric Paint    Any other advice / tips / tricks for refreshing/modernising these interiors?    Thanks

With it unplugged it is easier not to get confused. Also with the r32 wiring, the high beam has 2 power supplies (one when you push the switch forward and the other when you temporarily pull it back; so if it is the high beam blowing you will need to trace both circuits
