Hey guys,

I bought some 2nd hand semi slicks a while back, had about 90% tread left, pretty decent, and a good price (couldnt afford a brand new set :D )

I got an alignment before I did Oran Park south (twice in the one week - wednesday and sunday) and since then, the right hand side semi's have been worn down ALOT!

they are pretty much gone, and would be lucky if I had 1 track day left in them.

What causes this?

Is it the track itself with that side of the car?

the alignment felt good, I liked how the car handled, but could it have been too aggressive? (-3 camber front, -2.4 rear)

cant remember toe settings.

Only thing I can think of would be tyre pressures?

I was monitoring them, mostly sunday as it was a supersprint, but from what I recall, the pressures seemed fairly consistant with the LHS

Anything else could be an issue?

Ideas/discussion!

OP south does have a lot of left handers, but i wouldn't expect to see excessive wear on one side only.

what sort of tyre and type? ie, you aren't running a soft compound ggg or sg r888 instead of a gg?

how have they worn? evenly, outer edge, inner edge, center.

really need to know how much toe front and rear. if it's excessive it can lead to premature uneven wear

tyre pressures being out will cause uneven wear but you will notice that on the track as it tends to overheat and the tyres go off quickly and lose grip.

Basically, if tyre wear is even and it's a softish tyre then everything is ok...rotate them or go and do a couple of days at wakefield :D

I'll have a look at home for the last suspension alignment.

They have seemed to wear more in the middle iirc.

Chris you'll never fully combat tire wear around oran park. The track surface is hard on tires and the left handers will tear them to bits.

I go through a full set of drivers tires in one meeting out there.

I stager the camber 1degree more on the RHS for south circuit

The best thing you could do for that car Chris is to get it set-up properly and once.

Take it to Nick at racetige and have him do a suitable set-up. Its not cheap but the results do speak for themselves.

Jay and Duncan will attest that Nick did a beautiful job of getting my GTR to steer. Its better than anything ive ever driven.

It doesnt currently have the most exotic parts actually alot of them are budget specials atm. But its corner speed is well above what it used to be.

Tire pressures will only get you so far when corner speed is so vital.

Nick will weigh it and set droop, allign it properly and advise you of anything else.

He had mine for a day and spent the majority of the day working with it. money well spent.

Yeah Nick at Racetige recently did my car and found some time there for me as well which was a surprise after having the same setup for so long.

anyway....depending on tyre compound and how hot they are they can rip apart pretty quickly - yours may well be medium compound as they are smaller (tend to be hard compound in larger sizes for heavier cars). If you are doing long sessions and getting them very hot you might be killing them.

the kumhos that are our new control tyre have great grip - but the outside front only lasted 4x20m races at Eastern Creek....

assuming the dz03 are directional but not assymetric, you can rotate the tyre to the other side to get another day or 3 out of it. Or just go to eastern creek next time and wear the other tyres out that way :P

btw if they are worn in the middle the pressures are probably too high like Troy said - dz03 generally run around 32-34 hot (ring Gary's and check what they recommend). If you are doing alignments for each track then you should be able to get nice even wear across the face of the tyre, if you run an average alignment for all tracks you have to expect more inside wear at wakie and oran, and outside wear with the high speed corners at EC.
