Buying A R33 Gtr Soon - Some Questions

Gday fello SAUers,

ive been lookin at the forums for about 3 years, and now i think its time for me to buy my first car. Im looking towards buying a R33 GTR as my first car, i know insurance is gonna be a b***h as i am 18 and il b driving on an international license which i will get in july when i go for holidays. I dont mind R32 GTRs but im leaning towards R33's as they are much newer and spacious, i wouldnt even mind buying a GTST or R34 GTT but i know if i do il always feel like i should have bought a GTR,

anyway back to topic, ive seen a couple of cars, most of the nice ones already sold, im looking at a budget of about 26000 for the car itself and about 3000 for insurance.

the ones ive seen are:

1.) 1997 Series 3 GTR , pretty much a normal stock GTR, has exhaust, heavy duty clutch probably excedy, Pivot boost controller, complete alpine sound system with 2 fully sik subwoofers lol and 2 amplifiers ( which i dont want as no space in boot so il remove them and sell them if i get this car) and thats about it,

2.) 1995 R33 GTR - this is the one im leaning towards, they guy has spent a shitload on the interior and the cars extremely clean and has the following mods :3 inch full exhaust, 18" VOLK RACING GT-C Wheels - Veilside Front Spoiler - Custom Interior + Momo Wheel - BREMBO Brakes - GReddy Suspension - DEFi Gauges and Controller + NISMO Meters - ARC Intercooler - GREX Oil Cooler System - Carbon Fibre Bonnet - Splitfire Coil Packs - ALPINE Sound System - HKS Air Filters - HKS SZ F-Con Computer. The only downsides to this GTR are the veilside front bar which i hate so i will remove it and sell it if i buy this car and its approaching 100K kms so il probably have to fork out about $1500 to get the major service done. Any idea how much a geniune standard R33 GTR front bar would cost painted midnight purple and fitted?

and also any estimates on how much power it might be making? i was assuming something like 320 hp?

3.) 1995 R33 GTR- nice plain car as well but a bit modified putting out 400HP with he following mods :

okay so guys im leaning towards number 2 simly because its just stunning and really clean, i also wanted to ask if the engine will need to be rebuilt anytime soon in the cars if theyr not modified.

Any help would be greatly appreciated mates,

as a general figure its been said turbos at the least need to be replaced or some such at 155,000 kms - not cheap if youre replacing TWO.

And - keep going on the insurance.

I'm 21 and already paying 3100 a year on insurance.

At 18 you WILL be raped.

that and the only people who will insure you for that vehicle at your age are JCI - same company im with.

Post some photos or links up. I would go 3rd (not knowing how it sound like). The mods and power looks about right. The 2nd looks like a cop magnet already. Carbon bonnet with GT-C... I dont mean anything bad and personally I love the 2 but when you put 2 together you're getting a lot of attention. Carbon bonnet arent legal at all FYI, even a 34 Vspec2 got done for changing his stock to a ztuned in Queensland (I think its Brisbane).

lool, wtf mate? i didnt know that carbon fibre bonnets were illegal? how is the dealer able to sell it to me then? i mean how would he obtain a RWC for the car if its not legal?seriously the more i turn towards choosing a car the more b****shit cums out of nowhere,

lol. Dont worry mate, you're not alone. My GTR's my 1st car and I didnt know about all these bs until I bought it and start talking to people about my thoughts for mods. Anyway I dont like getting the wrong attention which is why I'm so paranoid about these... but here's the thread if you're interested and I am 100% sure they are illegal and only 1 place that are authorised to sell them (again I read from somewhere).

There's a lot of other things which are illegal too. You'll find out when you start reading more. I even printed myself a copy of the light mod standard for qld and relevant australian standards and kept it in my boot in case some retard try to tell me something they dont know. But as far as getting defect goes, just try not to be too attention seeking.

Having said all that, I've never regreted the purchase and I love my car.

Yea looks good. Either 2nd or 3rd. I havent been long enough in the scene to tell you what are the things cops look at but ignore the whole defect issue, 2nd would be pick if you've got money to spare and 3rd would be my pick if you want something thats done up (all the mods look sensible). Having said that, you will want to get a 3rd party inspection done as well to make sure it hasnt been thrashed THAT hard.

Mmmm I love my series 3 to death but its expensive - not just on the asking price and insurance...maintaining it...fuel, services, etc...all contribute to making the car a very hungry machine. But i never expected any less and knew all this when buying it.

Of the three...i dislike the second. Id go with the third - Nice, fairly subtle and in a nice shade of blue.

Just make sure you know what youre getting into, legally, financially, etc - before you even look at buying one.

Research is important. I'm not saying dont buy one - just have all the facts. And know what to look for - cuz there are a lot of tired, sad GTRs out there.

thanks guys for the replies, yeh i knw maintainance goin to be a B***h, im relly leaning towards the second one just because it looks like the prev owner took good care of it and looks pretty much unmolested, i thnk it would a more comfortable car to drive compared to the other ones, i a taking into account that i would probably hav to fork out 1500 bucks for the 100K service and maybe a high performance clutch if i choose the 2nd one, im going to get whatever car i choose to buy inspected at GT Auto garage and see how it goes from there, im a uni student so im not really gona drive the car alot as i live 5 mins walk from UQ lol, its just pretty much a weekend car or cruising one or twice during the week, i might be using it to go to work as well, as currently i only have 250 dollars a month max to spend on petrol which i guess could be okay if i dont floor it and dont drive that much..

and guys do u have any estimate asto how much power the 2nd one would be making? and how much a painted and fitted geniune R33 GTR front bar would cost?

oh n btw brandon did u buy your GTR of Imperial autos because theyr selling the second one their, and i remeber seeing the exact same r33 GTR N1 offered for sale on thier website for 33 grand, did you just buy it? or are you selling it?

yeah you might want to get some quotes for insurance mate, at 22 i paid $3,300 and very high excess, altho 1 year later it dropped to $1800 so there is hope

The point was also made that there are only a few insurance companies that will insure Skylines in the first place, most of which who will immediately turn away anyone under 25.

plus its a new car that hasnt been tampered with

Yes that would be me. I bought it from Brent (Imperial Auto) a few months ago. That was the most mint 33GTR I've ever seen and at 30k for an N1, I dont think you'll go very wrong (saw 3 other ones priced around 24-28k but none can be compared to the condition of this). And its plain stock other than exhaust with no sign of mods/tempering.

I dont believe they still have another N1 for sale (probably hasnt take the ad off). I drove past them a couple of times and there's only that black or midnight purple one now (forgot the colour).

I'm 27 and insured with Justcar. My premiun per yr is around 900 I think but thats with max excess as well (excess doesnt really worry me that much as I dont think I'll ever want to make a claim). Just make sure you've done your research and know what you're in for like what Cassandra said.

and brandon damn mate you got a very good deal, i have provided justcars with the complete honest modification list and details of the second r33 gtr and they sent me an email specifically asking if the bonnet was carbon fibre or steel or fibreglass and i told them it was carbon fibre , they quoted me 3200 dollars with lie 400 standard excess 1500 vehicle excess and 600 under 25 excess, im gona increase standard excess to 600 and pay 2900 for he premium if i end up gething this car.

i shall update you guys in a month when i return from overseas with a license and buy the car

that non vspec KR4 one has been for sale for years, i tried to look at it when i was in qld but it apparently just sold.

bit weird, i wonder if it has just not sold yet or it has been doing the rounds? pretty sure it used to have QLD "HKS" plates on it.

I'd pick 3, 2 is insane but theres bits and bobs that need doing... Bonnet, front bar and steering wheel (momo no air bag = illegal). imo piles of gauges makes the interior look messy
