Has anyone here bought the eastbear copy LED tail lights and stuck the factory lenses on top of them? I'm talking about the ones that look like this: http://justjap.com/store/product.php?produ...at=0&page=2

I'm wondering if it's possible to reuse the factory lenses and just use the electronics/LED part of the other ones and combine them ? I prefer the look of the stock lenses with the amber indicators etc but would love to have the LEDs under them insted of the normal bulbs

Yep you could do that. It'd involve lots and lots of plastic welding though. and you'd basically destroy your stock lense in the process. I actually considered doing this, but didn't like the idea of not being able to go back to stock. If you've got a spare one around from ebay, then give it a go.. I reckon it'd look tops.

Might just give it a go if I can source stock lenses cheaply ...don't wanna destroy my originals either

What do you mean by plastic welding though, what's wrong with glue ? I just looked at the eastbear copies in store and the lenses seem to be clipped in and screwed on so should come out easy (not sure about stockies though)

First set of EB lenses I had, had a wiring problem. I tried to get it open to fix one of the solder joints on, but failed to see how it could come apart. They glue it on (pretty hard too) from factory... I think you'll need to cut it out unfortunately.

Plastic weld will mean a cleaner look, you could glue it too I suppose.

hm I see what you mean ... Oh well, if they won't come out I might just find someone who can tint the clear section (indicators) to amber like the stockies .. the red part of the EB lenses doesn't look too shiity at all, just the clear indicators are yuck..

Any ideas about which batch your ones with the wiring problem were? I'd like to avoid getting same batch if possible hehe

The wiring issue I had was where the +ive wire met the pcb. A slight tug and it came loose, and there was no way I could solder it back on because there was no access without cracking the covers open. I called up the supplier and he replaced it no worries.... no such problem with the second set thankfully.

You probably could tint the centres amber, can't see an issue there. If only nismo led's were cheaper hey?

btw, they really do look awesome at night though.

yeah the Nismo ones are the ultimate sex0r but when they cost more than a nice 270kw turbo + dump pipe you have to wonder if they're really THAT GOOD... no way.

Edit: yeah seen that animation before that's why I wanna get em hehe  I reckon on a white or even red r34 they looks pretty good even with the clear indicators .. not so sure about a black one though

i had those LED ones briefly - bought off ebay from a member on here (they didn't work, sent back, came back damaged :), paypal finally refunded ;) )

not sure how they would go with the stock lenses. the indicator cover area in the smaller light is alot bigger on the stock lenses compared to the LED ones.

i think if you can tint it amber it would also be a good idea to tint the red a little darker, might take away from that crystal look and make it seem a little closer to stock, till you hit the brakes!

yeah good idea ..just not sure if the red area is completely flat, don't think it is .. Would be up for it if doable. Anyways, any ideas who would have tints for plastic or could do this ? Searched for "amber tint" couldn't find anything..

you cant paint it orange. not sure what spray paint to use tho. but basically cover everything except for the indicators then go over them in a orangey yellow colour till it looks alright. you might have to get some clear plastic and try it on that before you do the lights incase the colour is wrong or it looks like shit. just an idea....

yeah I have some clear plastic I'm gonna try it on first ... found this "Tamiya TS-73" which is a model car paint. Apparently that particular color is "clear orange" and can be applied to plastics. Will give it a try soon.

Might need to tint the red part with some normal tint just to make it a bit darker and match the stockies .. is that sprayon tint from car shops any good? night shades or whatever it's called

using model paint with fade over time.

The best thing to use is what they use to cover globes in the older days, its in a glue type bottle with the brush in the lid

I think u can buy it from repco or bursons it will provide a much better colour for longer.

dont think anything applied with a brush would look that good. I was thinking of using that tamiya paint and then clear coat it to protect it. Either way I dont have the lights yet ..asked the seller if its coming from Melbourne or overseas and he said melb... but don't think melb->syd takes more than 3 days. Grrr.

got these today ..painted the clear indicators with clear orange (tamiya paint) and they look pretty nice .. much better than with the clear blinkers. Still i'd prefer the red lenses a bit darker but this will do for now. Will post a couple of pics if anyone's interested.
