In heaps of mags and sites I see cars with rays te37's on them some have big dish and some dont, regardless of their offset?? im confused, can anyone explain? below are the two examples of what im talking about... the purple R34 has the dish wheels and the s14 does not... forgive me if this is a stupid question...which im sure it is...

it's a combination of all of the above, diamter, width and offset and what they call 'face' too. they make different wheels for different models and change the curve of the spokes and how the spoke meets the rim to get the look they want.

did you read my post? like I said it's a combination of things. they can make them look however they want. and offset has nothing to do with the curve of the spoke. offset is the position of the rim over the centre of the hub. so the spokes could attach to the bloody inside of the rim if you wanted and you could have giant dish and still have a 'tough' offset of say +12. or you could have the spokes attached to the outside of the rim and have an offset of +45. maybe learn a little about how wheels are made and measured using good or wiki or whatever and you will understand.

i though a had a good grasp on wheels but obviously there is a shitload of variations...

explain this then, these te37's seem to have little concavity indicating a 'weak' offset but still have huge dish...

They dont actually look like Rays wheels rather Ravs wheels-I may be wrong but they aren't true Rays Engineering Volk Te37 wheels

No they're legit, but as said difference is they're 19's on the R34 & 18's on the S15.

If they were rav's they'd be 19x7.5" & flat...

    • Aren't these run off of high voltage in OEM applications? Like 200+V. Or at least 48V in mild hybrids. At ~18,000 BTU ballpark nominal capacity the power draw is at what, 2.2 kW? ~185A is a pretty crazy amount of amps. At 200V it's only 11A. The 70A nominal kits with up to 100A peak draw I see for stuff like classic Porsches have pretty substantial compromises like shutting off at idle and not actually managing to keep the interior cool in hot conditions because they can only output like 6000 BTU. IMO if I had to pick what high amp draw component to retrofit to these cars I would start with the engine fan, not the AC compressor. You need an ~850-1000W brushless fan, something like this: I would love to see the data but I would bet that whatever you save by running the AC compressor in a more efficient regime with an electric motor you're probably losing to conversion losses anyways. It's not really like a clutch fan where you're losing power all the time even when it's nominally disengaged and it gets worse as it engages because the envelope tracking isn't that precise.

    • I'm wondering is the Toyota and Mazda "collaboration" could see that new Toyota ???G20 ??? turbo engine that they have been showing off recently into a future MX5, apparently it's good for 400hp out of the box That could easily, possibly, be much better than the last collaboration between Toyota and Subaru with the boxer engine in the twins
