Im going to be buying my first car soon. I dont know what to buy, a 92 civic hatch or 180sx. Personally, i think they both look good upgraded. The thing is i can visually modify the civic up to 6k and it will look good, but i could buy a barely modified 180 for 6k if i was lucky. What should i do? I wont have the car for a long amount of time, a year to a year and half, cos my dad will let me have the 308 LJ Torana :P

Discuss lol

100% the civic; little pocket rockets those things are especially if u go the vtec engine + famous honda reliability and less police attention.

not to mention fuel economy, handling, safety and u wont have to spend much in the way of modifications as they respond well to basic tuning (intake, exhaust and dyno tune etc)

Trick question?

Why would you spend $6000 to modify a Civic to look good, when a 180SX for $6000 would kick its ass.

Go for the 180SX.

CA18DET or SR20DET either one will be good.

But ppl have recommended the CA18DET as it is a friggin tuff engine, kinda like a RB26DETT (Strength wise) but obviously with only 1 turbo, 1.8lt engine, - 2 cylinders and 8 valves... Hehe!!

Imagine all the fun you could have in a rear wheel drive :D? I have something similar to the civic.. a Proton Satria GTi which I use as my daily.. goes hard but the front wheel drive ruins it..

Personal choice.. I'd go for the 180 with an sr20.. definitely.. however those vtec civics go hard too :P

x2. ANd if you were going to spend 6k on it, id find a lower model D15B Civic, with at least an injected motor. So much cheaper.

Drop in a B18CR with bolt ons. Some suspension and away you go... goodbye 180SX.

This of course, depending on how quickly and how far you mod the 180... Can only do so much to the N/A.

And as a side note, stock for stock a 96spec ITR is a fair bit quicker than an S14. Something to think about. Especially when the motor and box is dropped into a little EG.

Hmm it's not a clear cut choice, you really have to decide what you want from your car as each was made with very different purposes in mind.

The civic will be a great daily commuter, can be modified (though you will run out of power options a lot sooner than you will with the 180 without spending rediculous coin) maintenance and service costs, if you're doing it yourself shouldn't be too bad and you can run it on lower grade fuel. Insurance will also be much cheaper.

The 180 will be a far better performer (when you consider both with basic bolt on mods) will respond better to those mods (as in give you more power per mod), and has a huge aftermarket and second hand parts market surrounding it - so you can get parts very cheap. Being an older model turbo car, the running and maintenance costs will be a bit higher, as will insurance and fuel costs,

Both will be a bucket load of fun and the Civic would probably be considered the safer car for an inexperienced driver (understeer being much easier to recover from than oversteer)

It's a tough one to decide but it ultimately comes down to what you feel you want.

Might be a good idea to jump into some chats over at nissansilvia.com.au as well and read up about 180's

Mate, they are completely different cars.

One is turbo, the other isn't.

1) The 180 looks better

2) It's much faster

3) the 180 will chew more fuel

4) the 180 is guarenteed to get you more putang.

5) The 180 is more prone to failure (due to the inherent risk of being a turbocharged vehicle)

Set your self a criteria (eg. is it more important for you to have a economical car rather than a fast car) and you can make your decision based on that.

I am totally agree with his reply. You must invest your money according to your need or according to your pleasure... Its truly upon you how to handle it.. for fun you may go for 180sx but thinking economically, Civic is the good one.

ca180s are pretty rare and the ca is almost indestructible but more power is achived at a lower price compared to the sr

sr20 endless amounts of aftermarket parts and second hand parts

but 6g for a 180 good luck a 13 yes 180 :S

looks wise i actualy cant pick between the 2

performance i would say nissan take this aswell

overall with my biased vote i say 180 / s13

wtf is a ca180?

you probably won't pick up a 2L 180SX for 6k, but a 1.8 auto should be pretty easy, there's a fair few on the market too, esp with the P plater turbo restriction laws coming in.

it'll set you up nicely to move onto the torana, as you'll have practice in a RWD car.

also keep in mind that if you're only gonna keep the car for a year and a half, and you buy a 3k civic and mod it for another 3k, by the time you sell it, you'll probably only get 4k back. However a 6k 180sx will resell for about 6k. You won't lose as much on a stock car. You'll make no money on modifications.
