Hey, Im building up an rb25/30det & about a month away from a tune, I have installed a modified standard front facing plenum that just sits flush with the front of the plenum (no extension at all) and a standard throttle body. Is this going to effective for my 330rwkw goal or should I really just put a greddy copy on there. Would like some input for people with the factory modified unit more so then people with greddy copys or other.

Sorry If its been done Ive searched alot but havent found alot of people putting decent power through it.

Sorry I probably wasnt very clear turbo is 35/40 with 740cc's ems 8860 & 6boost manifold, Wondering if anyone has had dramas getting a good tune using one of these. I figure the car will make 330kw on pump (all goes well), but just dont want to have inferior product on my car from a decision I made a while ago.
Your goal of 330rwkw will be dependant on what turbo you have.

If it's the usual GT35R, you shouldn't have a problem.

You may get slightly better flow with the greddy copy, but in terms of power, it will make a bees dick of a differece
i had a similar style modified plenum on my 25, had no troubles with stok turbo, as soon as i upgraded to high mount it blew two motors in as many weeks. still dont no if it was the plenum or tuner. im changing to a better plenum and finding a better tuner.

i think if your going to go a 6boost mani, spend the money and go a real greddy plenum...

I had a china one it had a leak some where so the idle was alwas bad, also it leaked coolant out the top bolt on the number 6 runner...

you'll save money in the long run...

or you could buy my old one an fix it... lol...

I cut my stock plenum up years ago.. and it is still in place! my throttle is welded directly to the front of the plenum.

If the job is nice and neat, with rounded edges to help prevent the air tumbling inside, it should go ok.

My engine has top mount and had zero issues!

try it first.. you may get away with it. If it doesn't work, it didn't really cost u anything to try!

Yea I guess will have to see what the tuner thinks when he starts pumping some air into it.. I couldnt see it blowing an engine unless they didnt correct the fuel up the back & had massive lean outs, I have spent the money elsewhere I am just trying not to overhaul the whole car before I get it back on the road, only time will tell I spose.

Exactly what i was doing.

It's like having a Versace suit and wearing Dunlop Volleys.

Last thing you want is to mince a motor because of a cut-n-shut plenum

Yea I spose I was looking at a cheap build originally then upgraded my stainless manifold & spose I should do the same with at least a knockoff plenum. I just havent driven it since ive done so much work & chopping and changing but I spose im learning to do it once and do it right this time around.
