I got a nasty surprise in the letterbox yesterday and wanted some advice.

I have just been booked for going 15km over the speed limit TWICE within a 2 min period.

The first offence was for doing 68 in a 50 zone at 12:45pm

The second offence was for going 65 in a 50 zone at 12:47pm

Both fines are $227 and 3 points.

Here are the problems I have with this. After doing some tracing back I can clearly remember the day.

I was driving along a suburban stretch of road and was flashed by another driver coming the other way. I instantly looked down at my Speedo and checked I was not speeding. I was doing 50 spot on. I continued to drive along looking for a speed camera and saw a station wagon on the side of the road with a speed camera in it. I checked my speed again. 50... fine I thought. I continued to drive along cautiously.

So I remember distinctly NOT SPEEDING past the camera. And there was only 1 speeding camera not 2. Also the camera was well and truly parked on the side of the road in someone’s front yard and not on a straight bit of road.

The fact that hey have issued me with 2 fines 2 min apart and both the speeds are different suggests to me that they are in error both for issuing me the fine twice and the fact that bots speed detections are different.

I am discussed with this as it is blatant revenue raising. I am a 33 year old male, with 1 speeding ticket issued in my 15 years of driving.

This is a street that kids play on and I was most certainly NOT SPEEDING.

I really feel this is unjust and do not feel like I should have to cop it. If you have had something like this happen to you or have any advice please post away.

Thanks!

I dont know Victorian Law or even Australian Law for that matter but in a couple countries that I've lived in I know that they are not allowed to issue more then one speeding fine (Via Camera) on the same stretch of road within a certain time frame (which I'm sure is more then 2 minutes) you might want to look into that otherwise if you sure its not you request for the photos that were used to issue the tickets it costs a little but if there is another car in the picture or there is something wrong with the picture you might be able to fight it in court....all the best to you bro I'd be pissed having to pay $454 in one go thats ridiculous

No speedo sends a car out 15km/h, especially when most manufacturers dial in speedos to read higher than you are actually doing. You would need some seriously large 4x4 wheels to make that happen.

If you are certain about not speeding (whenever I've gotten a fine or seen a flash I've hated trying to remember the last 30 seconds because I never can...always thinking to myself "was I speeding?"), then I recommend asking for photos (these come at your expense) and then taking it from there.

I have been doing a lot of reading and yes, you can not be booked on the same stretch of road within a cetrain distance. so it is an error. also the stretch of road the fine was issued on is not sutiable to use for a speed camera due to the bend in the road and downhill slope.

I am going to appeal it, not sure what course of action to take yet how but i will,

thanks for all the advise so far!

shouldn't get done twice on the same road - there should be a multiple stupidity policy that stops that .

Fixed and test cricket should have a no out first ball policy with tippity run for the 1 dayers and 20-20.

Welcome to another tremendous fantasy.

Op, sorry to hear of your misfortune, if you believe the reading to be incorrect contest it, you never know there might be hundreds of dodgy tickets from the same camera/operator and location. If you don't ask...you don't get.

thats strange, you better get that checked out, the error is usualy a % factor like mine is out 6%

yours sounds like a gauge cluster problem

so when im doing 64 its 60, 85 is 80 and 106 is 100

I had a similar issue, it wasn't always a clear % difference, I made a tutorial on how I tweaked my speedo cluster to be more accurate.

Do it at your own risk if you want it more accurate, or keep it the way it is and be happy your always under the limit (unless you feel the need to do 10km/h over on your speedo because you know its the right speed in km/h. lol).

Havn't seen your tutorial but there is also a speedo corrector you can buy from jaycar, dont know how easy it is to use.

Victoria police don't actually operate the speed cameras. They're outsourced to a private company that gets commission on the infringements that they get to stick. Maybe it's been a slow month in commission revenue?

Simply get the photo - its not hard to then see whats going on.

Also, diff gears, gearboxes, wheels etc all alter speedo's.

Mine is WELL over 10km/h out being i have a different gearbox, diff, wheel size etc etc

    • Hey all, The skyline I have is stalling when the engine is at normal operating temp.  When starting it while it is cold, it'll run just fine.  I have replaced the battery (bad cell), I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and clean the MAF sensor.  Any other suggestions?
    • Thanks for all the information on this.  I tried ordering the parts from Amayama website and all 3 Solenoids are discontinued and not available.  Does anyone have any other websites to suggest that I could find the parts?   Separate issue-- I will start a new thread, but basically the vehicle is stalling when warmed up.
    • It's unfortunate what Tomei USA has done to Tomei's name in general. I'm very weary of ordering parts from them now. I only order direct from a Japanse source (e.g Nengun). At least their logos are different, so you end up knowing what you have.
    • Update Issues 5 (plus #4) - 10 After making a claim about issue #4's missing part, DeAgostini Japan sent a whole new issue #4 and it arrived about 2 weeks after that. That was back in early March. It took another 4 weeks to receive issues 5 - 13 though. This update is for issues 5 - 10. Ove the 5 issues the front left suspension and most of the engine have been completed. The quality of the castings and fit of the parts is quite good, it seems better than DeAgostini's BNR34 Skyline GT-R from the Fast & Furious 2 movie, which (to me anyway) doesn't seem to have as tight tolerances or quite as accurate castings.  Each issue has a lot of info about the 1989 - 1993 Skyline range and other Nissan models from that era, but the focus is on the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo and the various racing it did in Japan, Europe (Spa 24hrs) and of course Australia. I've included some text translated with Google Lens in some photos and will add to them if there's anything worth including.
