Hey there all,

I'm currently living in Japan and have just bought a set of coilovers for my car. They are Tanabe (Sustec 5s) and I would like to send them to Australia.

However, I called the post office and they said anything containing Gas cannot be sent. Full Stop.

Is this true? And if so, how does everyone send their stuff over?

Also, I'll be going back to Australia later this year. Can i take the shocks apart, send the springs etc via mail and then put the shocks into my baggage?

Thanks for your help :)

Peter

The problem with air freight is that the cargo compartment is not pressurised so when the aircraft reaches cruising altitude, anything containing pressure expands and as such, pressure vessels can explode.

If you have the sender bleed the nitrogen out of the shocks and remove the Schrader valves, there wont be an issue.

When they arrive here, just get a suspension shop to replace the valves and refill the nitrogen to your desired pressure setting.
